Remembrance of Things Past
This is the seafront hotel where Marcel Proust came and spent his summers. A grand 100 year old place - showing a little age, but very classy nevertheless. (Elevators are small and slow - avoid if claustrophobic). Lots of photos in the hallways showing many famous visitors. Nice bar. Good buffet breakfast - a tad expensive but lots of choice and a view of the ocean. Didnt have dinner in the restaurant. Our room was big and clean - facing the park rather than the ocean. The room had an extra twin bed in addition to the king, and Madelines (little cakes - see Proust) were there when we checked in. Bathroom was also large and well appointed. We had a bit of late night noise, and then the early morning crash of glass bottles into the recycling truck, so we didnt sleep that well despite a very comfy bed. Cabourg is a quiet resort town - if youre looking for excitement, go elsewhere. It was just what I wanted.

Above our expectations!!
What a wonderful little town by the sea. A very romantic getaway. The hotel was fantastic. Dont expect them to assist you with travels/tours to Normandy unless you speak fluent French. No one spoke English, so we had to wing it. The promenade along the beach was wonderful. Daily horses ran along the beach in training for racing. It was wonderful. The food in the town along the main street was all very good. We had a garden view rather than the beach view -- and it was very, very nice.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
We were able to rent a car locally. But we recommend that you rent a car across the street from the train station when you arrive. It will save you a $60 taxi ride. We rented a car in Cabourg for $115 for 3 days. You do need a car. Parking was free.
