Hanoi excellence

3 recent days at Sofitel Metropole Hanoi. a charming ,historic hotel with ambiance, service at the highest level. The Sofitel Grand Ankor in Siem Reap, Cambodia was also superb.

Sofitel Metropole Hanoi

Beautiful hotel located in the French quaters, steps from the Old Quater. A true 5 star hotel, amazing rooms and hotel facilities. Rooms a expensive & even more expencive if you book directly with the hotel. Restaurants are highly over priced & you have to pay for every additional services you would like (Internet, etc..). Service was very good, check in, baggage storage, etc. The pool is a bit small for the size of hotel. Overall a beautiful hotel that is worth staying in.

An oasis of calm with wonderful traces of yesteryear

My third visit to the Metropole -- a beautiful hotel, with the nicest and most friendly staff imaginable. The location is ideal -- close to the lake, easy walking distance from shopping. The rooms in the historic old wing are charming, but the Opera wing is more comfortable.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Hanoi is a city made for walking. There is so much to see, the activity never ends -- and people are friendly and anxious to practice their English with foreigners.

The place to stay in Hanoi

Beautiful hotel property in a great location, close to the old quarter. Club level rooms were magnificent. Service was great. Wish more hotels were like this!! For a stylish trip back into the colonial past of Hanoi, there is no better place to stay.

Very impressed

Old world elegance, great service, etc. Watch out, they have a way of catching a guest off guard with charges that are unexpected, ie: $5 USD charge for 20 minutes of internet use in the Business Center. Also, our reservation didn’t include breakfast and we were aware of this. When we checked in, the front desk told us that they were including breakfast for our stay so we thanked them. The next morning we got were questioned by the dining staff, then we got several calls about this matter. It was uncomfortable and embarrassing, because we hadn’t requested anything extra, it was all volunteered by the front desk staff and then the rest of the hotel staff kept questioning us as to why this happened. A lovely place to stay in downtown Hanoi near the lake.

If possible, attend a performance at the French built opera house, it is a sight to see.

Beautiful hotel, well maintained, excellent service. From another era. The only hotel I would stay at in Hanoi. DS

Nice

Very nice colonial vestige of Old Hanoi. Reasonable prices by US standards. Service is outstanding, and well above US standards. I asked for a quiet room in the old section and received exactly that.

Metropole Magic

Great hotel, a haven in the hectic 24/7 city of Hanoi. Great room, excellent, friendly staff. Stunning dining areas (though not cheap!). The only offputting aspect was the Receptionist’s determined attempt on arrival to get me to upgrade to a more expensive room. Otherwise, I highly recommend this hotel and its staff.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The Press Club’s restaurant and cafe a block away are amazingly good, relaxed and great value for money. We dined there twice a day.

Best Hotel in Hanoi!!

This is such a lovely hotel. French touch can be seen everywhere. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They remembered me when I re-checked in after my Halong Bay trip, and upgrade me to the Old Wing. The room at the Old Wing was extremely nice!!! We got a great deal on Expedia, but I understand it usually is much, much more expensive. We didn’t eat at the restaurant there because there were many other choices in town that were much cheaper. The macroons at the Cafe were very tasty, though, and they were not too expensive. Overall, this is a great hotel, and I would definitely recommend it.

Traveler's tip on dining

There’s a Pho 24 about 7 minute walk from Sofitel Metropole. Do give it a try. Also, try to eat at Green Tangarine at least once -- a very nice French restaurant set in an old house. Ask hotel concierge for directions.

A first class hotel in a wonderful city

The service in this hotel is as good as I’ve ever experienced. Omni-present, attentive and knowledgeable. Plus, the hotel, itself, is a classic in great condition. I highly recommend it.

Lost opportunity

The hotel is a nice historic hotel, but not in the same league as Raffles in Singapore or the Sofitel in Hua Hin. The location is good, but the staff are generally not sufficiently friendly and courteous. The concierge that took us to our room was co;d and impersonal and completely ignored my partner.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Not in the same league as other Sofitels. Poor service and so so food. Only stay there one night, just for its history. Insist on the old wing. The new wing could be anywhere in the world.

Great staff, great location

Sofitel Metropole in Hanoi is a great hotel. Amazing location and fantastic staff. The staff helped us book multiple tours and flights and were incredibly helpful. The hotel is in a great location a few blocks away from the center of the Old Quarter and the dining is delicious and beautiful.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Get up early and walk around the lake with the locals before sunrise!

Excellent hotel-wish I could have stayed longer

The hotel was a little bit of sanctuary in a fast paced and loud city. Food was terrific and rooms extremely comfortable.

Stay in Sofitel Metropole

During winter vacations we chose this hotel and never regretted the decision. The hotel is set very near to the Old town, which is a plus itself. As it is very dirty on the streets and you can hardly breath outside, so entering the hotel you immediately forget about extremes of Hanoi and totally immerse in a warm and cosy atmosphere of an old but still fashionable hotel. Service is good, food is fine. The Screw Driver in the bar is accompanied by a jazz singer from South Africa. So Sofitel is certianly a place to stay for a while.

not impressed

My room was on the 4th floor.During my stay(fortunately only 2 nights),there were parties with noisy music until after 1 a.m.The sound proof of the room was poor .My wife and I just couldn’t sleep. Another minor disappointment is that the bath was surrounded by plastic panels which was not too water tight and water spilled all over the floor of the bathroom .

Traveler's tip on local attractions

It is close to the old city and within walking distance to the lake.
