Nice Place

Beautiful old estate. Lovely drive from hotel down Sawmill Parkway to any event in the Bronx. Our agenda was the New York Botanical Garden. Would stay here again. Restaurant on site was beautiful and not expensive for New York.

A lovely property

Great hotel, beautiful grounds, the rooms are very updated, clean and comfortable. Flat screen TVs, in room coffee maker, hair dryer, etc. In door and out door pools. We did not eat there so can’t comment. Very convenient location to Tarrytown and 287.

Lovely setting...

Lovely property and grounds. Comfortable rooms. The only down side is parking is limited and you may need to walk far, and up and down stairs, to get to your room. The staff was more than willing to assist with luggage so its not a big hurdle to overcome.

Beautiful property

This is a beatufiul place to relax. There are 26 acres with very interesting, historical buildings. The parking lots are on a lower ground level, so they don’t detract from the atmosphere. The staff is very friendly.

great relaxing getaway

The hotel is situated at a wonderful location close to Tarrytown and Irvington and is surrounded by beautiful grounds. The staff made us feel very welcome and made sure we were happy with our room, which was spacious, clean and the bed was super comfortable. On the property they have a complete sportscenter including an indoor and outdoor pool, with a small bar were you can have a relaxing afternoon cocktail. They also have a restaurant in a seperate building, were they serve a very nice breakfast in a room overlooking the grounds for only 15 dollar. Also, there are two historic sites at walking distance, Lyndhurst and the house of Washington Irving. Some other sites and downtown Tarrytown, with many nice restaurants, is only a 10 min cabride away. All in all, Tarrytown house made one night away feel like an actual mini-vacation!

Extremely Impressed

This destination hotel, just a stones throw from the hustle & bustle of New York city, provides a calm, quite and elegant environment for visitors. We were plesantly surprised by the immaculate grounds and the location, so close to the banks of the Hudson (w/ a historic connection to the Legend of Sleepy Hollow & Rip Van Winkle). Loved the room, amenities and most of all, the sorroundings.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Set aside some time to visit the many attractions along the banks of the Hudson and in the neighbouring cities of Irvington, Westchester, etc (Westchester County in general).

Great escape from NYC

By and large, tarrytown house it’s a garnd value not only for it’s surroundings, but also for the very attentive personnel who works there. The rooms look a bit small and they don’t provide too many amenities, but that is overcompensated with very good service of the staff. The on-site restaurant and bar are amazing, and the games can make your time more pleasant. The convenient gym is well equipped, fresh, clean and neat as well as all the other areas of the hotel. Check in was a brezee, all our requests were attend without delays, and front desk did all they coudl to please us.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Local attractions like the Irwing’s house, Lyndhurt, Kykuit among others are a must, they transport you to another era, and they feed your knowledge of american culture.

Beautiful place/thin walls, noisy neighbors

The Tarrytown House is a beautiful hotel and very well organized, but the walls are thin and our next-door neighbors were very noisy during the night. Apart from that, we had a great time.

LOVELY AREA,,CONVENIENT FOR OUR PURPOSE, BUT ROUGH TO GET AROUND

We didn’t qualify for the type of trips you mentioned. Ours was for a family funeral. The grounds were beautiful, the amenities wonderful. There were a few drawbacks. Our rooms were very hard to get to-the hotel is a maze, on many different floors, w/ no elevator to reach all the areas. There was a very large wedding in progress, so all of the parking was assigned for their valet spots. We had to walk up many different levels far from the hotel. They have many wonderful amenities that we weren’t able to use due time constraints. Our family was very happy w/our rooms once we got there.

Noisy wedding guests and overpriced food

The hotel grounds were very pretty. We got a fantastic weekend rate. Unfortunately, the room service food was overpriced (after factoring in the service charge, a burger with fries was about $30!). Also, we were awakened both Friday and Saturday night by noisy wedding guests in the hallway. Parking was limited to areas that were pretty far from our room.

Wonderful location

This is an enormous former estate with beautiful grounds (they must be wonderfully different with each changing season). The facilities include a combination of historic buildings (for functions, dining, etc.) and newer buildings (for hotel rooms) meandering around a hill top near the Hudson River. It has excellent exercise facilities including an indoor pool. The staff members were uniformly friendly and helpful. We have been coming to the Tarrytown area for decades to visit family there and had no idea this hidden gem existed.

Went to a wedding here

The hotel was comfortable. But our TV was broken....as were all the others in the hotel (something about the programming network they set up there), so we stared at the menu page all afternoon. Other than that, no other major problems except that they didn’t allow us to sit in our friend’s room after the wedding, stating that only registered guests are allowed in each room. Interesting. So, curfew was at 1 a.m. after a wedding with a pretty mature (early 30s) crowd. My husband and I thought we had died and gone back to overnight camp.

excellent hotel

Hotel was well kept and grounds were beautiful. There are a lot of stairs to climb even though there is an elevator. Strange configuration. No valet parking and the lot is a bit up hill on the way back to the hotel. Otherwise beautiful room the price.

Nicer on the outside

The entrance when driving up looks grand, but these rooms are pretending to be fancier than they are - we had no shampoo or even soap in our room (had to get it at the front desk), two of the pillows were stained or dirty, and there was a big wet spot on the carpet that smelled moldy. Oh, and bottled water was $6. Stay at the Doubletree instead - we loved our stay there, and much nicer amenities!

Enjoyed the hotel and the surrounding area. Lots to see and do.

Our room was spacious and clean. The AC worked very well. The hotel was nearly empty when we were there but many were there for conferences.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Make sure you see the Rockerfeller Estate and the Washington Irving home. They are close-by.

Beautiful Setting

An old estate, but cobbled together with mis-matched buildings Front desk staff appeared less than enthusiastic to serve Room air conditioning blows on you all night long Rooms are also too small for two people for an extended stay Great area to walk/jog, very close to the Croton Aqueduct Food was also excellent at the hotel General Manager at this hotel was very service oriented and easy to talk to about the hotel and the area

Traveler's tip on dining

Highly recommend Red Hat, Harvest on the Hudson, and Horsefeathers.

Subtle Opulence

We were extremely pleased and surprised by this hotel. Rooms were ample in size, clean and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast, which was included in the room rate, was delectable. The ambience was just breathtaking.

Traveler's tip

Do not use Mapquest when mapping out the directions to the Estate. They are inaccurate. Call the hotel and they will direct you.

Gorgeous hotel!

The hotel and grounds were beautiful!! I wish we were able to stay longer. The pool was pretty cold and it was a little hard to locate. But, I would definitely love to stay there again!

Great Place to Stay

Wonderful hotel; great service.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Make sure you go to the hotel’s website to get directions. If you print them from Mapquest, etc., you’ll be sent to Sunnyside Ave - not Sunnyside Lane!
