A top-notch hotel with an extremely professional and helpful staff; Highly recommended!

The restored abbey was everything the literature said it to be. Very modern, clean, and professionally run. The front office help was extremely helpful in giving us ideas for our visit and directions. A convenient strip mall across the street had a small market, coffee shop, and restaurant which was very convenient and appreciated.

We visited Colle in the latter part of October. We had great weather and no crowds at the sites we visited. At this time of year, the weather can be very changeable, but we were very happy with our choice of the time of year to visit.

Great Location

Room was very small but clean and quiet. Bathroom very clean but drain not working well. Would be nice to have in-room Wifi. Staff was very helpful and professional.

Tuscany homebase

Beautiful upscale hotel, top notch staff and 1st class restaurant. Lovely large air conditioned room with a true king bed that was very comfortable. Staff was most helpful with special requests and travel information. The buffet breakfast was absolutely the best we’ve eaten in Europe - probably because it’s tied to the restaurant where we also dined in the evening at the end of our travels. We also appreciated the Internet access that let us further research the towns and keep in touch. Most convenient with lots of parking and close proximity to major roads.

Traveler's tip

A great location used to tour Tuscany towns. Colle Di Val d’Elsa is a non-touristy but beautiful town with very friendly people.

Beautiful setting with a lot of character!

We stayed at the Relais for 5 nights while we toured Tuscany. It is a beautiful hotel with a lot of history and character. The grounds are beautiful, the pool too. It was a little difficult to find the hotel the first time. Follow exact instructions. We were able to upgrade our room to one with a spectacular view of Colle Val D’Elsa (because they had vacancies). The hotel is very charming and quaint. We had the breakfast only once. It was nice, but we preferred to eat on the road. Our room and bathroom were very large. The bedroom had plenty of storage. The bathroom had 2 vanities and was also very spacious. The linen was very nice. It was very clean. The hotel is well located if you want to visit the Chianti region and San Gimignano / Volterra / Sienna. The staff was very pleasant. The pillows were not so great (flat, thin and hard) so after 5 nights my ears and neck were sore. It was a true king size bed (not 2 single put together) which was nice.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Visit the old town nearby. Colle Val d’Elsa is very charming and worth a visit (10 minute car ride from the hotel), so is Monterigionni. San Gimignano and Volterra are definitely the best attractions (after Siena). Chianti can be done in a day, but it is a lot of driving. Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano can be done in another day. Take secondary roads to Montalcino, views are spectacular.

Can’t wait to go back

This former 11th century Abbey was a lovely find in the middle of Chianti region, close to Florence, Siena & several small medieval towns and many Chianti wineries! Would go back to this exact hotel next time.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

For the adventurist traveler, hire a car and just drive. So many cool, little towns and the countryside is amazing!

Beautiful Hotel.....

We enjoyed our stay at Relais Della Rovere. While the hotel had NO Air Conditioning, the time of year that we stayed allowed for cool nights. The staff was wonderful and helpful with dinner plans. It was a nice place to stay.

The breakfast was wonderful; however as they tell you that it is ’included’ you will be charged $15EUR per person when you check out.

Loved it!

The place was a little difficult to find, but the locals in the village were friendly and helpful. Once we found the hotel, we were really very pleased. Staff were absolutely super. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The ambiance of the old abbey has been preserved, but the hotel has all the modern conveniences. Excellent breakfast included; the restaurant on the lower level also had a very nice dinner menu, the food well prepared and service prompt. Front desk staff provided much assistance to us in navigating the wine country and Siena. A very enjoyable stay.

Best breakfast I’ve ever had!

Wish we could have stayed longer at this hotel. It’s conveniently located to any town in Tuscany. The history behind the hotel made it even more interesting. We had a delicious dinner and breakfast. A little pricey perhaps. The staff were helpful and friendly.

A Tranquil, Gracious and Convenient location

I hesitate praising this Hotel only becuse I would like it to remain a well-kept secret. A very peacful setting, convenient location if you are driving (Florence was 40 minutes if you use the autostrada; Siena is 20 minutes away; San Gimingano is 15 minutes). Outdoor pool was fine and service and staff was exceptional.

Traveler's tip on dining

The resturant across the street has great and inexpensive food. Take a walk in the Alto part of Colle D’ Elsa--it is worth the trip and some great resturants also.
