Nice experience
The hotel is conveniently located -- just a short walk to town and the lake. It is very well run and extremely well maintained. The only issue we had (which we had with all NZ hotels) is that check out time (even on Sunday morning!) is 10 a.m. Great stay and nice attentive staff.

Great hotel in a good location
We stayed in the Copthorn Resort for 2 nights in February 2009. To save some money, we chose not to get a lakefront room. The hotel is very clean, offers free parking in a garage, and has all the facilities we hoped for, including cheap guest laundry and reasonably cheap internet terminals. Its just a few blocks from the hotel to the pedestrian area downtown; 5 minutes of walking gets you there. Would definitely stay there again if we visited Queenstown another time...

Very poor service!
I was happy with the Copthorne until I returned from a day out to find my room door wide open. I went to the front desk to inform them of this. The staff apologized, but said that, "This is Queenstown. You cant always find good help so these things happen." Not very comforting, especially as I was a single woman traveling alone. The hotel told me that they would check with the housekeeping and laundry services and follow up with me via email. Three weeks later, they still have not done this. In addition, the walls of the hotel are paper thin. I have never made a noise complaint in a hotel before, but I could hear absolutely everything that the room next door to me did--their conversations, phone calls, television viewing, etc. They were not receptive to quieting down at 1AM. All in all, the staff was polite, but rather incompetent. I would definitely not stay here again.
