Horison Hotel in Hanoi

Some of the best hotel staff that I’ve seen anywhere. The neighborhood does not have much real close but you can walk to a couple of tourist locations.

Impressed

This hotel is not in the greatest location but taxis are dirt cheap in Hanoi and for $2-3 you get to wherever you want to go. We loved everything else. Phantastic breakfast buffet, very helpful and accomodating hotel staff, sufficient English spoken, nice room, spacous and comfortable, no arguments about Internet access and inclusion of breakfast in price. Highly recommended, we had 5-star treatment.

Do not get a hotel in the old town, however quaint the idea sounds. It is incredibly crowded and noisy.

Hanoi Madness

I really enjoyed our two night stay at the Swiss Belhotel Horison Hotel in Hanoi. The locals know it as the Horison. It’s not a new hotel, but it was clean, very comfortable and in a central location. We had an executive room on the 10th floor with a great view of the city & unfortunately the smog (which is the same all across Vietnam - pity as it is a beautiful country). The staff were welcoming & very helpful. I loved that the executive rooms we booked got a fast VIP check in & out on the 10th floor rather than standing with the crowds in reception. We were also able to dodge the crowds in the restaurant for breakfast as this was included in the room rate and served in the executive lounge on the 10th floor. I loved the food & service at the chinese restaurant on the 1st floor. Heaps of spices & flavour which we thought was lacking in a lot of the cuisine throughout Vietnam. The doormen & reception staff were great and always eager to help or point you in the right direction. I give it the thumbs up and would be happy to stay again.

We dined at the Koto Restaurant about a 10 minute walk from the Horison Hotel. We enjoyed a great meal and a few drinks. The Australian Ambassador to Vietnam has helped establish the restaurant for disadvantaged kids between 16 & 22. It is a hospitality training school and the kids learn different facets of the catering industry as well as being taught english. This will enable them to gain employment in the fast growing tourism industry. Good to see someone giving the less fortunate kids a go. It has given the kids hope of a better future. Well done to all the sponsors of these kids. We heard about this restaurant from one of the graduates. He was our brilliant waiter on a 5 star cruise boat that we stayed on in Halong Bay.
