Wonderul vacation

This hotel was beautiful and the service (the people) was exceptional. Our only complaint was the air conditioner didn’t adequately cool, which caused the humidity level in the room to remain extremely high. Our books and passports warped, our bed seemed wet all the time. Aside from that, it was an excellent experience. We requested a quiet area and it was that; very peaceful. The room’s view of the beach was amazing. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was quite good; not amazing, but very good.

Check out the season as to what to be prepared for, i.e. mosquito season, fly season or crab season.

It was okay...stayed at better hotels in Cozumel

The Melia was a nice hotel. The food was good at the snack bar and buffet; but I wouldn’t recommend the nice restaurant you have to make reservations at, it was not good at all. We upgraded our room to the "M Experience" and the bed was hard as a rock! My body hurt every night and morning I woke up, and I’m only 23. It did have a great view, though. The hotel was far from town. It is an $8 cab ride each way, so $16 every time you want to go to town. The water in front of the hotel was VERY dirty! It was full of seaweed, and you couldn’t snorkel because you would not see ANYTHING in front of you. It’s a nice hotel if you just want to stay there the whole time and not go in the ocean. If you like to go to town or snorkel, I would suggest something else. Genny at the front desk is nice!

Good trip

The hotel was great. We enjoyed our experience. Two things to consider though. First, two of the four days the water was extremely merky in front of the hotel. Second, the hotel is on the far north end of the island and a taxi is $14 to town and another $14 back to the hotel. These issues were fine with our group. The overall experience was great, but if you wanted to do a lot with town you may consider something closer.

not impressed

Room very musty, smell of mold. Some employees were rude. Never restocked mini bar, did’nt pay attention to the do not disturb sign. The food was OK at best, lacked variety. Forth time in Cozumel this year, first time at Melia and will never stay there again. Too many other places to stay, why waste your money.

Gorgeous Location

Hotel and staff was great. Quality and variety of food was okay but, I guess, you get what you pay for.

Nice Family Hotel

As it is with all Melia’s hotels, this doesn’t disappoint. The beach has a good 300 m extension, and is very well kept. This the second time we stay here so we indeed like it. The wi-fi internet is free but you’ll be lucky if you manage to pick-up its signal anywhere besides the lobby and surroundings. The people from the vacation club can be very annoying. It’s a shame that the liquor served in the bar is totally substandard, nothing we could possibly find anywhere else. It annoys me the fact that I am drinking something that wouldn’t even cross my mind at home. It is definitely a point for improvement.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

If you are traveling in two, rent a moped, it’s great fun. If you are in a family, rent a jeep. The duty free stores downtown really have good prices.

Very relaxing hotel, great with or without kids

The hotel was great, the staff is always wanting to take care of what you need. The food was good for being all inclusive. Overall very relaxing at the hotel. Note: there is no WIFI in the room, only in the lobby. this was the only disapointing thing we had on our vacation.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check the prices at the MEGA MART before you pay the prices in the down town area. example: vanilia 5$ in town, and 1$ at the mega mart.

Would stay here again.

Hotel was clean and employees were very attentive. The food at the various restaurants was good but Cafe Paraiso did not live up to expectations. La Iguana had the best bartenders though it is outside. The shows were not good but the lobby entertainment in the evening was great. We stayed in the M experience which had a great view but we did not get any extra service from the concierge

Watch out for the "Travel Advisory" counter at the airport. They stop you and make it seem as though they are government officials and offer you great deals but make sure you read the paperwork. It is a vacation club scam: their deal is a rental car from Avis and a "90 min breakfast" (which is when they try to sell you the vacation club) etc for $50 for 3 days. If we just listened to her spiel and not read the paperwork we would have been scammed.

Not too bad

I had low expectations after reading reviews on this site. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good the service was excellent and the room was ok. Some friends upgraded to a room in the tower and their room was very nice. I would suggest that. Overall it was an excellent vacation done very cheap!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Don’t sign up for the airport shuttle. You should be able to get a ride to the hotel for $8

would go back in heart beat

the food was GREAT! the room was big and very very clean!! They kept the adult pool as an adult pool. Very close to downtown and the staff was very helpful. Expedia did a great job helping their clients. When we got to the airport they had someone there to help us get to our ground transportation and the hotel had a rep there to help us as well. Expedia told us at the airport not to talk to anyone unless they had a gold shirt and black pants. Advise was very comforting!

Traveler's tip on shopping

Was fun! they all want you to come into their store and they offer free gifts etc. go off the main street to the back streets and you will get really good deals! The main street prices are higher and they don’t wiggle as much with the price. "Cheaper than Walmart" is the saying.

First time staying in Cozumel-7/10/09-7/15/09 MELIA

The Melia was worth what we paid for it. The front service desk employees could have put a smile on their face and been much friendlier. They should have someone there greeting their customers & giving a tour of what they have to offer. Half of the time my family and I didn’t know what was going on and it took us a long time to figure out where things were.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

I would advise you not to buy the "ground transportation" before you go. There is no need. It costs WAY too much & there are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS plenty of cabs everywhere (airport, hotel, downtown, etc). You’ll save lots!

Loved everything, but the food

My husband and I just returned from a four night stay at the Melia. Check-in was quick and easy and we were on the beach within an hour. The water right outside the hotel was not as clear blue as some carribean locations. However, we walked down the beach below the pier and there the water was crystal clear. We enjoyed snorkeling below the pier and saw many fish. The room was spacious, but the mattress could have been a lot less firm for our taste. I did not enjoy the buffet, however, my husband, who will eat anything, did not have a problem finding enough to eat. The staff was very friendly and the resort was very clean. We would return to Cozumel again. The only thing that would keep us away from the Melia is the food.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Walk down the beach and snorkel right below the pier. There were plenty of fish there to see and it is free. You can get the snorkel gear from the water activities building on the beach.

Loved it

The staff was very genuine and helpful. the lobby bartender is the greatest guy! We had so much fun and were able to truly relax at this hotel. The food was good as were the drinks! I cannot wait to return to Cozumel.

Traveler's tip

Dont get stopped by one of the timeshare sellers at the airport. You can take a van to your hotel. They act like they are trying to help you but they really just waste your time.

Home away from home

Our 4th trip to the Melia, and will keep going back. Not the fanciest, but laid back atmosphere where the niceness and helpfulness of the employees make you feel special. Felt safe to let our 10 year old daughter go around the property without worrying about her. If you’re looking for relaxing family friendly this is it.

It was only OK

The room was bland- no art or beauty to it, and extremely musty - mold around the air conditioner. The deck and furniture were plain as well. The beach is the key - it was the best of all we saw all up and down the island. The service for food was very good. Overall, it was only OK.

Traveler's tip on shopping

The main town has very, very aggressive vendors and store owners who will remind you of a swarm of mosquitoes. Not pleasant. We couldn’t just go into a store and browse. So, shop at a restaurant or an indoor venue if you like to just look. Otherwise, don’t shop - it’s painful.

Have stayed there many times, and will continue to go back

We just returned from Cozumel June 29 from a week’s stay at the Melia. We have stayed there many times and will continue to go back. We were not disappointed in any way. The staff is very friendly and most attentive. We feel very comfortable and relaxed in the atmosphere Melia has created for their guests. The hotel is very well maintained and clean. The beach was beautiful, the water was very warm and clear, and the weather was perfect.

Fun times!

My wife and I stayed there during our honeymoon. The hotel was a great place to stay; it wasn’t over-crowded and we enjoyed the quietness. There were plenty of nighttime activities and places to eat. The all-inclusive is the way to good. We loved the staff and thought they were very friendly. The sand on the beach is sooo soft and the water is warm. The water has brown seaweed closer to shore, but it’s still very pretty. We had a wonderful time staying at this hotel.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Again, the all-inclusive is the way to go. Food gets expensive outside of the hotel. Take a little extra money to tip the waiters at the hotel for your meals. We recommend touring the island and seeing some of the Mayan ruins there.

Excelent! And what a view!

For people who wants a place to relax and enjoy the beatiful view from the ocean view rooms, hear the ocean while sleeps, enjoy the calm beach and swimming pool, I can’t imagine a better place. And considering it’s prices, I don’t think I could have had a better choice in Cozumel.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Don’t forget the snack bar, where you can get mexican snacks (and others!), and take it to the beach! I realized it two days later!
