Great location for convention center
The hotel was clean, well heated, but the beds are poor. You can feel the springs poking through the matress! The hotel staff placed a down pad on my matress which seemed to correct the problem. Staff is friendly and try their best to be helpful, but are not knowledgeable in regard to the area (ie public phones, correct time the bank opens...). Great location for the financial center and getting to Excel.

I will go back
The Holt Hotel is very nice and well locteed within walking distance of the shopping area and rsetaurants. Their restaurant is outstanding and superior to many restuarants in Paris (yes Paris where I live almost half of the time). Also they have one of the most extensive high end wine list I have ever seen. Serving staff remarkable. As matter of fact, we ate their the second night by fear of not being able to match the quality elsewhere.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Reykjavik is a small city - sized like a large town- you can walk just about everywhere. The people speak English and are very friendly. It is truly work visiting for a day or two. Next time Ill stay longer and visit the country side.

Great for walking Reykjavik!
For our first trip to Iceland, we had no idea what to look for in a hotel. We had only 4 days, and wanted convenience to attractions, but not some big chicken coop chain. Hotel Holt was perfect for our stay. It is located near the old downtown (City Center), and is very walkable to many museums, restaurants, parks, and even the bus station. It is located in a residential area, and walking the little streets provided countless surprises and views into everyday city living in Reykjavik. The staff was friendly & knowledgeable. The buffet breakfast was the same each day, but it offered many choices from fresh fruit to pickled herring. September is rainy - try August, instead!
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Definitely get the Welcome Pass - worth every penny in savings. The local city bus schedule & route is difficult to figure out - even for the locals we asked. WALK - youll see more.
