Good, but a little overpriced
I chose the hotel based on proximity to the Taj. Not knowing better, I looked at the map and saw that it is about 1 km away. Little did I know that 1 km is in a straight line, but the roads don’t go this way in the town. So it is about 3-4km in reality. There is not much around the hotel except for a couple of souvenir stores and a tourist-oriented restaurant, which means it is not very good. As per the hotel itself, the service generally is outstanding, but kind of theme-park-like as in any 5 start hotel in a developing country. Specifically, the service in the bar was so slow that we had to leave without getting our drinks: it took the waiter about 20 min to take our order, and in another 20 when we left we still did not receive them. The room was clean and had all kinds of fancy decorations in it. But surprisingly it was not 5 star clean, to be honest. And hardwood floor in the entry way had little nails sticking out, whicj we discovered by walking barefoot :( Breakfast buffet, frankly, was awful! Overall, it was an ok experience. Mainly because it was not worth the money.

Nice Hotel, Excellent Service
The Gateway is well positioned to the main sites in Agra like the Taj Mahal. The hotel is very nice, well appointed with a variety of casual seating areas, shopping opportunities, and a very large outdoor garden/pool area for relaxing. What stood out most of all was the high level of service; from the doorman to the hotel front desk staff, housekeeping and restaurant staff, they made the stay exceptional.

You can’t top the excellent buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner for quality, variety, service and price. In Agra for just a few days, we had every meal at the Hotel.

Nice and economical option in Agra
Overall very good hotel. It is an older building, and you can see some signs of that, but the renovation work is good overall. Service is good, restuarants are good. Price was a very good value for the level of hotel. I highly recommend it.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Don’t waste the money on the Taj view rooms, besides they face the busy road. Get the garden/city side.
