It served its purpose
This place had the Ugliest window treatments in Chicago. The bed was hard and I suspect there were bedbugs, although I turned the sheets down before bed and in the morning and didnt find anything, but I woke up itching a couple of times. (Perhaps this was just psychosomatic, because I read several reviews of different downtown hotels before booking this one and some other reviews mentioned bedbugs, which I am unfamiliar with.) They put us on the first floor right next to the office and people were hooting and hollering down the street till five. The historic hotel atmosphere was nice though, I liked the tile bathroom and the door to nowhere was interesting. Nice location with good shopping and dining within walking distance. I didnt feel unsafe there. Its great for people like us who just wanted a place to sleep after a concert. It wasnt the cleanest, but its cleaner than my house (not counting the bedbugs of course...)
We went to see a show at the Riviera Theatre; great venue, great show. Allow extra time for parking, and the black box parking meters are way confusing. Our hotel was in a good neighborhood, but none of the shops around there seem to open till 10 so sleep in.

Awful stay
I wasnt so upset about the fact that the room was so small that the door hit the bed when I opened it, but more because of the discomfort of the bed and the noise within the hotel. Based on others reviews, I asked for a room that did not face the street so as to not hear the street level noise at night and in the morning. Without warning, the hotel placed my in a room literally in the stairwell and I had to listen to parents yelling at their children all morning. This was also the worst mattress I have ever stayed on and was not worth the money.
