If you pray for service maybe God will help, Blue Beards won’t

Our room was not available when we arrived and we were down graded to a room with no kitchen and not given any credit for the difference in the rooms cost. Supposedly we could not be credited because it was booked with our airfare. The staff was no help at all on this. We asked for more coffee for our room so we could make more coffee in the morning and were told they only give coffee on the day of your arrival. The front desk was completely useless in helping us. However, if you found a cleaning person and got on your knees and prayed to them they would reluctantly give you some coffee. If you want your room cleaned more than once a week you better go somewhere else. Even if you have blisters on your knees from praying for coffee it will not get your room cleaned again.

Our Week Stay at Bluebeards

My family and I were very satisfied with the service at this establishment. My son wanted to utilize the play station that we brought along for the trip and unfortunately the TV we initally had, had no output area to plug his video system in. We contacted the Front Desk who in turn sent someone from their Maintenance department with a brand new Plasma TV right out of the box...complete with output cables!!!! Straight A’s in my book!! Thanks Bluebeards.

If you’re not expecting the Marriott, it’s a great place to stay.

Pros: You can walk downtown (if you don’t mind walking downhill) and save on some cab fare, nice pool and hot tub, great views all around, good food at all three restaurants (no breakfast). Restaurants have friendly and outgoing staff and it’s pretty easy to make friends with the timeshare owners that are there every year. Cons: The hotel is still recovering from years of severe mismanagement. Rooms need to be updated and the maid service leaves much room for improvement though it’s not so bad that it’s intolerable unless you need the quality of hotels like the Marriott and Hilton.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The hotel offers discounts on activities. You can take a day sail- all you can drink, muffins, lunch, 2 stops for snorkeling- all for $60.

A 28 year olds opinion

Great for the price!! Great for a couple young sisters to spend 3 days! It is not a four star hotel, but it has AMAZING VIEWS, so close to where locals dinner, lunch and bars. Taxis sit outside the hotel to take you anywhere you want to go-young locals work in the hotel to give you advice on where to go! No breakfast provided, but has 2 restaurants there and a bar (on site) they dont open until 4, but have a little store you can buy food. The rooms have kitchenettes so buy food from town, store it and eat in there.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Always say Good Morning, Good AFternoon, Good Evening. FYI Native women who live and work on ST Thomas are not friendly-so be overly nice to them and it will go a LONG WAY. Trunk Bay is only a 45 min ferry ride away and is totally worth it. It was laid back, awesome views and I got totally tan! Bumpas is the only place to get breakfast with waterfront views, but it is a little expensive, 9.50 for bagel and creamcheese. Banana pancakes are totally worth the price.

Awesome View

The view from the room/hotel was incredible. The staff were very friendly and the bartenders were incredible. I had an iguana in my room when I first arrived. The atm machine went down on the third day I was there but overall the experience was incredible. The hotel resturaunts are very pricey but worth every penny.

Traveler's tip

Be prepared to hike if you dont rent a car or pay for taxi’s. This hotel is on top of a hill. Make sure you bring a print out of your hotel itinerary and not just your confirmation number. They will ask to see it before you check into the hotel.

Not again

Didn’t realize it was a timeshare. No cleaning of the room, no new towels. Many (34) steps down/up from lobby to room. Nobody assisted us with luggage, we each had a large bag about 48 lbs and a carry on to lug down the stairs after 12 hours of travel. Our view was nothing to speak of. The restaurants were good at the hotel. Didn’t see it open at breakfast. No shuttle to town need to use taxi’s too far to walk anywhere.

Already planning our next trip.

We had a beautiful view of the harbor where cruise ships arrive. Balcony for sipping our morning coffee. Our "studio" was a large room with queen bed and all kitchen amenities. The only negative part of the visit was the attitude of the front desk staff. They were less than friendly, had no information and at times told us to do it ourselves. Not the kind of representation you want. Also none of the restaurants open for breakfast until 9:30 AM.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Be sure and visit WIKKED Bar & Grill on Saturday or Sunday afternoon for outstanding live steel drum entertainment.

Fantastic view

The convenience of the kitchenette was a very helpful moneysaver. Nice sitting area and balcony. The hotel is situated on a hill overlooking the harbor, therefore, there are a LOT of outdoor stairs to climb to get to the rooms. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you’re OK with fast food, it might be your best bet. Everything is more expensive than I anticipated. Look for coupons in the booklets which are free at the airport.

Not impressed

The hotel is beautiful, but I was not happy with the service. The room does not get cleaned on a daily basis. It gets clean only every two to three days, if you ask the front desk, otherwise its cleaned once per week. Also I wanted to stay in the Island for another day or two but the hotel could not offer a deal and would not recommed another hotel.

Traveler's tip on dining

The hotel has two restaurants. The Banana Tree is located there and the food and service are amazing. Really worth it.

You get what you pay for...

I am not sure if it was the island or just the hotel, but the customer service at the front desk sucked. No smiles, sometimes no eye contact when answering my questions. The rest of my stay on St. Thomas was like that too, maybe they didn’t like me. Anyway, the room was spacious enough, but you could tell the hotel was older and a little rundown.

Traveler's tip

Cabs are government regulated, so there are no meters. There is set fees to different parts of the island, you can find them on line.

Not Impressed

When we arrived, there was a mix up with the reservation-the hotel had no record of the reservation. One of the 2 rooms we stayed in did not have air conditioning for 4 days. We did not have rooms cleaned on 1 day and we had no water in our rooms on another day.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The island was lovely and we enjoyed the trip when we were out and about.

Not much has changed here since the 18th century...........

It is a little disconcerting after 12 hours of flying to have to shlep your bags to your room; but, alas, I guess Bluebeard the pirate did not leave any conditions in his will for bellboys. Waking up to the sound of chickens cock-a-doodle-dooing is not so bad as waking up to no decent coffee, no decent bagels nor any tropical fruits. The front desk ladies were friendly enough but definitely NOT knowledgeable about tour companies, tour activities, or other island amenities and their is no concierge on duty so you are on your own. Who should NOT stay here: people of means, honeymooners, senior citizens, people on anti-depressants, people with feather allergies, people who need a good breakfast, people who like to read the newspaper in the morning, people who get a craving for apple pie a la mode at 11:30 pm.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Within walking distance of Havensight mall and new Havensight grande mall - gorgeous shops, Ben & Jerrys...Walking distance to Charlotte Amalie shopping, K-Mart, Pueblo supermarket. Can get a decent breakfast in Wendy’s for less than $5.00. Can take the Safari bus to Brewer’s bay (snorkeling) for $1.00.

definitedly will go back

The hotel itself was okay... The room was kept very clean though it was very old. But if you think about the price, you cannot complain! However, it has amazing view of the city since the hotel is located on the high hill. It also has an amazing restaurant!! We also enjoy the fact that the hotel was in walking distance from downtown. We definitely looking forward to going back there!!

I can’t imagine staying in any other hotel on the island besides this one!

I absolutely loved Bluebeards Castle. It was without a doubt an excellent choose on my part. The hotel, in my opinion, was everything I had wanted in an island vacation spot. It has history, authentic looking, great food, peaceful, relaxing, and the view of the harbor is out of this world.

Traveler's tip

Transportation is seemly always readily available.

Nice View Rent a Car

Very nice view, good albeit pricey restaurants on property. However, expect to rent a car or pay lots of cash on cab fairs since hotel is pretty isolated on top of a hill and getting around is not pedestrian friendly.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If renting a car, driving will be most "interesting" -to start, you will drive on the left side. We rented a scooter and it was great but I do not recommend it for the non initiated; lots of hills, technical driving for sure.

Would definately go back to Bluebeard’s

We selected Bluebeards on Expedia because they were having a deal on rooms. We were ecstatic to check into our room and find that we had a room overlooking the port and the brand new Yacht Haven Grande. We loved watching the yachts and cruise ships come in. The food was outstanding, both at the pool bar and at Room with a View. Great atmosphere, great views and very helpful staff. I was sick during part of our stay and the staff was extremely helpful in getting me liquids and foods and helping to cure the food poising that I had gotten from the Fat Turtle restuarant at Yacht Haven (FYI: dont eat there). Our stay was great, the room was very clean and comfortable. We’d definately stay there again!

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

We rode the local bus one day to try to save some money. Our greatest expense was (and always is in St. Thomas) the cab fare. Riding the local bus to get around town was great. Only cost $1 each time you rode it. You just have to go through some parts of town that you normally don’t see, but it was very safe. They look like the safari buses, you just have to look along the road for the bus stop sign and wait for it, which was never long.

A place to sleep without the resort amenities

Hotel was under much needed repair. no upkeep. Great place if you just want a place to sleep while you enjoy the island. great view from balconies. Swimming pool is deeper than what is posted. Resteraunts were pricy for a low to moderate budget but the food was great.Bring your own beach towels for the pool instead of using the hotels. housekeeping offered once a week, not everyday.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If you are going for the shopping. Best deals are in havensight as opposed to downtown. and for better deals locate the k-mart. Resist the urge to use a taxi. everything is very close by. Hike it or rent a scooter.

it was ok

The hotel was good. The pool was nice. The view was wounderful from room and pool. The one thing that could be better is hot water. There was luke warm showers not hot...The best part was breakfast with rose down at the pool... She is a great cook!

Hot water is not a must

(Read the fine print)charges for lost pool towels, lost room keys.Once a week cleaning of rooms cost extra if you wanted it done more than that. Other than that it’s basic time share.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The beaches are each great blue water and you can see your feet

don`t expect a 5 star stay but very comfortable

Just got back from a week on STT @ Bluebeards Castle TimeShare resort. A very comfortable stay BUT don`t expect a whole lot of the place. It is need of major overhaul, very dated, faded artworks Curtains need replaced the very basics of room appliances . Nice pool area reminds me of being on the Lido deck on a cruise ship. Has 4 resturants 2 very pricey, a poolside bar, a casual cafe as well. We would definitly go back.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Rent a car to hilly to walk, taxis abudant but on their own time,Look up cruise ship arrivals, stay away from everything when 4-5 ships are in, stay by pool. GOTO Coki beach for best snorkling. Magens bay on fri. no ships
