More convient than you might realize
We chose the Rafaelhoteles Orense in Madrid because it was within walking distance from a synagogue which my wife wanted to attend. However, I later found out that the hotel is a short walk from the #27 bus which runs along the Paseo de Castellana and is convenient to the Prado and other tourist attractions. It is also right near a Madrid Metro stop. There are some very nice restaurants nearby as well as a supermarket and a convenience store. There was free Internet in the lobby. The modern room was just to our liking.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
We took RENFE trains to Cordoba, Sevilla, Granada, Madrid & Toledo. They were fast and convenient. We bought Tarjetas Dorado (senior citizen passes) at the airport on arrival and saved around 25%. Bigger savings are available by buying in advance on the Internet using Internet fares or Estrella fares. Those are great deals if you plan to stick to an itinerary.

This a hotel a really nice city hotel, close to everything and quiet at night (as quiet as it can get in Madrid).
