NIce Place to Say

The Hotel was really nice and it was the center of all major attractions. I stayed in room 406 and it was really nice but my Boyfriend didnt care for it because he is tall and the room was at a slant...there are beams in that room that are low and you could knock yourself out if your not paying attention. The staff is really helpful and they speak fluent english so its a plus.

Garden Room

We stayed in the garden room of the hotel. It has a view over a small courtyard, instead of the canals but was still very pleasant. Breakfast was continental, but there was limited seating. Room was smallish, but not as small as others in Europe.

Traveler's tip

The hotel’s map online is missing many of the winding streets. Go to San Marcos Piazza, and follow the hotel’s written directions from there. It is only a few minutes from the main plaza. There is a bridge with steps and it is hard to navigate with luggage through the crowds.

Very good, would go back again

Convenient to St. Mark’s Square. Very obliging staff generally. If you want internet access, however, this may not be for you. One little telephone booth sized area and access only in the living room. Breakfast good but not full breakfast as at some other similarly priced Venice hotels where I have stayed.

Gem of a Hotel

Lovely hotel in a great location steps from St. Marks square. Our fairly large room was very clean and had wood beamed ceilings and charming Venetian furnishings. Like everything in Venice the building was very old, but the smallish bathroom was newly redone. My biggest complaint was that the shower was so small that if you dropped your soap you had to step out to pick it up. Yet they found room for a bidet next to the shower. Europeans have odd priorities. When we left the water taxi picked us up from the little canal right at the back door of the hotel. Very nice!

nice hotel, will stay there again

My husband and I with our 2 children, (4,11) stayed there for one night. The hotel is in very good location, the room is clean and big. My children got a kick out of the toilet and wash bowl. Breakfast is good too.

be aware of the "sitting down" charge when dinning out at a restaurant. We had to pay 3.50 euro each extra for a dinner.

Five minute walk to San Marco Square

It is located next to a bridge along the canal which is very pretty to look at. The front desk spoke English and was helpful in booking tickets for a concerto (which we bought directly from the hotel). They serve free breaksfast as well. They offer a one way free ride to the Murano Island, just beware that this free ride entails a tour at a murano glass company who will try to sell you on their products. Maybe just pay for your own vaporetto ride?

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Hotel has a great location within 5 minute walking distance to St. Mark’s square. Very convenient to go out and listen to live music in at the cafes in the square. Just note that these cafes have a pretty steep cover charge per person with overpriced drinks and desserts. Enjoying the music while sitting down and enjoying a glass of wine could be well worth it though.

great hotel in excellent location

The Colombina is well located, tucked behind San Marco square, and provided us a beautiful, small room that was recently renovated and had a lovely marble bathroom with tub. We had a large picture window to other buildings and the room was quiet. We arrived by water taxi which worked perfectly and they immediately took care of us. The breakfast was very good. Be sure to have the tasty fruit tart. We would return without question.

We had three people in our room. As in most European hotels, it was tight, but we expected this and it was fine.

Loved It!

This hotel was located right on a canal, but in a quiet area where it wasn’t hard to sleep. Only about a 5-10 minute walk to all the action with plenty to do and see on the way. The staff was terrific and accomodating as well. The hotel offered a free water taxi ride to Murano for a tour and shopping. Additionally, we were able to book a gondola ride for 30 Euro per person right at the hotel and they picked us up on the canal right outside.. it was wonderful! The lighting in the room was somewhat dim, but the decor was beautiful! Would definetly stay here again!!

Great Hotel and Helpful Staff

This hotel is located right behind Piazzo di San Marco, a perfect spot. It is extremely clean and the staff is great. My only negative is that there is NO internet in the rooms and you have to pay for internet by the minute in the hotel lobby. Otherwise this was a great place to stay and I highly recommend it.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take the Vaparetto (water bus) from the train station to get to the hotel 6-8 Euro. If you are going to a cruise ship, the water taxi will cost you 84 Euro. If you have a ton of luggage you may not have a choice here, but you can take the Vaporetto to Pile Roma which is right next to the Port and get to your ship for 6-8 Euro. More walking, but a lot less expensive.

Excellent location

This was my fourth visit to Venice, and I liked this hotel the best. The location is excellent, very close to Piazza San Marco. Our room was on the first floor, overlooking the Sospiri canal with numerous gondolas passing, and our windows were at about the same level as the adjacent foot bridge, which had lots of tourists around noon. It was quiet at night, although there seemed to be some furniture moving directly above us every evening at exactly 10:55pm. We shared the room with two elusive mosquitoes, but I imagine there are some mosquitoes everywhere in Venice. (At the farmacia we bought a spray "contra zanzari".) The breakfast buffet was excellent. The staff was very friendly and generally helpful, except that when they told us the opening times for various museums they were invariably wrong.

Very nice Hotel

The hotel has an excellent location just two blocks from St. Mark square. Very clean rooms and very nice staff. Our room was on the top of the building with a tremendous view of the St. Mark basilica, I will definitely use this hotel if I go to Venice.

Great Location

The location of this hotel was unbeatable. It’s a very short walk to St. Marc’s Square with a canal front location. Upon arrival, the staff was friendly and helpful as you would expect from a 4 star hotel. I’m guessing the hotel staff sized us up in advance because our room was designed for hobbits. I’m only 5’7" and my wife is 5’6". Our room was located on the top floor and resembled an attic. Beautiful wooden beams ran up the ceiling with electric opening sky lights for fresh air and privacy. The tub was very small as well and required us to sit down to shower comfortably. Other than that, it was very clean, decorated nicely and had a widescreen flat panel TV for entertainment. The feature that made the room all worth it was the private terrace. The view from the roof was perfect and very relaxing after a day on your feet exploring Venice. The breakfast was also a good way to start the day but don’t wait until the last hour as it gets crowded and seating is limited.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Take some drinks with you. A personnal pizza or calzone may only cost you 3 to 4 euro but a bottled soda or water will cost 3.50 and 2.00 euro respectively. Also, check with the hotel staff on sharing a gondola with other guests. The price for a ride starts around 120 euro for a 40 min ride but sharing can cut this in half.

Mixed Feelings

The hotel itself was great, very charming, not too hard to find, and great breakfast. Unfortunately after turndown service we realized there was a red stain on the right pillow, right side of the headboard and corresponding sheet! We called down to the front office (around 10 pm) to at least receive new bed sheets and they said there was nothing they could do for us. The next morning we mentioned the issue of the red stain to the manager who said it probably wasn’t blood, but starch that they use in the sheets. Still suspicious that the stain was on the headboard, disappointing that nothing was done. Not very satisfactory service, which is too bad because the hotel otherwise was great.

Great way to start a vacation

First hotel we stayed at on our 2 week vacation in Italy, it gave us insight to the great hospitality we would encounter throughout Italy. Initially there was a discrepency with our reservation, however this was taken care of by the manager; he upgraded our room. The whole staff was helpful with dining suggestions and transportation. The room was small by American standards but served us just fine, by European standards normal to large. It was clean with two windows that gav e it great circulation. Beds were firm but comfortable. Pillows if I remember HARD. Good location, close to the square, many shops and good food. Would stay there again!!

Excellent hotel for trip to Venice

Fantastic hotel. Excellent location 3 minutes walk from hotel to St Marks Square. Hotel is very quiet as it is located along a small canal back beyond the popular tourists roads. Only negative : it is a bit tricky finding the hotel for the first time you arrive in Venice. My below directions should help. But once you find the hotel you realize immediately how great the location is to the sites around Venice. Directions: take water boat to either San Marco or San Zaccaria. Walk to St Marks Square. With St Marks Basilica on your right, look ahead for a clock tower that has two figures on the top of the tower, with a bell between them. Walk through this bell tower. At the first street, turn right. Walk all the way down. Just before you hit the small canal, turn left on a side street (I believe this is last side street on the left before canal.) After you turn left you walk about 30 yards & at the first small side street on the right, turn right. You will see in front of you a small bridge with the hotel right on the other side of the bridge. Staff spoke great English & gave good advice & assistance with restaurant reservations, gondola rides, water taxi to airport, etc. Rooms are very nice & clean. Beds are very comfortable. Internet access in the hotel lobby only, but is rather pricey. Breakfast served in small room on lobby floor.. We were very pleased with this hotel & would definitely recommend this hotel to others traveling to Venice.

Great location!

A little tricky to find once you arrive in Venice, but so is everything else if you are a first time visitor. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They do charge a service fee of 5% on cashing travelers checks so you may want to do that at the airport.

Great location, very nice staff

Great location and the staff was very willing to give us advice. We had a great experience. We stayed on the top floor and had an amazing stairway outside our window that led to a private table on top of the hotel.
