Beware the Jr Suite
Overall the hotel has nice grounds and most of the staff is friendly. The Junior Suite that we were offered was dark, dirty, outdated, and located on two levels. Although it is listed as "rustic" it was dark with lots of unusable space - an unusable kitchen and odd small spaces. The delux room that we downgraded to was much better. I recomend this one instead. It was clean, better light, and newer furnishings. One other thing, the place is a little hard to find, and they charge for everything, ie towels.

nice staff
We went to this hotel during Feb., their low season and got a very good rate. The weather was nice and location ideal if youd like to see Florence, Pisa and Siena (they are all within comfortable driving distances). Over all, we find the people very nice and helpful at the resort, and we will definitely recommend it to friends and family.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Visit Siena, Pisa and Florence. Great place to buy wine.

Nice, but....
We stayed at this resort for 4 days. We did not realize how far away from absolutely everything it really was. It was very expensive to take a taxi into Siena or from the airport. The hotel itself is nice. These are the drawbacks.... the pool is right outside of the restaurant and business people tend to congregate there so there always seems to be an audience. Also, while breakfast is wonderful the restaurant is significantly overpriced and not very good. The hotel does have an incredible staff, they are very helpful and everyone speaks English. They will also set up a winery tour and tasting with a driver that is a lot of fun. All in all we had a okay time, but I dont think we would go back to this specific hotel.

If you are going to stay here make sure you have a car and are very comfortable driving on European roads (it is different than the US) or plan on spending a significant amount of money on taxis.

Uexpected Surprise
Off the beaten track on a dirt road this resort offers tranquility and luxury. Manicured lawns in a park like setting, huge pool and cabana area, excellent service, large accomodations and close to all of the sites in Tuscany, we hope to return again and again.

An OK Hotel
You will definitely need a car to get to this hotel. The older gentleman at the desk (appeared to be the owner) was not very helpful at all. When asked about nearby restaurants he only wanted us to use the hotel restaurant. Its good for breakfast but we did want to try other restaurants in the surrounding area. He also provided zero information about the areas wineries even though we were in the heart of Tuscany; told us we needed reservations to visit any of the wineries. NOT true!! Hotel was mostly quiet. Accomodations are spartan at best. Not that we watched too much TV, but a 13" black and white is a little past its time. Leaky toilet never got fixed after reporting it the first day.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Drive to the town of Siena. In the town square there is a tourist information office with maps guiding you to the area wineries. Every winery we visited was open even on Sunday and none required reservations. There are also many good restaurants in the town square. Have dinner at Il Picolo restaurant inside the Monterrigioni castle 10 minutes from the hotel. Very good food and wine selection.

Wonderful
We were extremely happy with the San Luigi Resort. The grounds are beautiful and the room was comfortable. It was very convenient for touring the countryside.
