Excellent Hotel and Exceptional Location!

Highly recommend this excellent hotel in a prime beach front location! The hotel is just one short block off Venice beach boardwalk and with good weather it has an really cool rooftop bar/lounge. The location is also very convenient to LAX, just 10 minutes on surface streets on a Saturday morning and a short drive north to the Santa Monica and Malibu communities. It is right in the middle of a real SoCal beach community, so you do have some limited dining options and night life action, with the exception of the rooftop lounge that is! It is clearly the best place to stay in the area and a good value for the price. Try to get a room up high and on the north side for a beautiful view of the beach and sunset this time of year! Just Go!!!

Great spot, friendly staff

Loved the HUGE suit and the location right on Venice Beach - ask for a room on the side (or ocean front, of course), the few street side rooms can get noisy. Sign up for the JDV club to get treats when you check in!

Venice rocks and so does this hotel

Venice rocks. If you are visiting, get an ocean view room at the Erwin! it’s a great view and when you’re sick of being ON the boardwalk, you can simply be on your balcony watching it. It’s a blast and the perfect home for an old hippie! I stayed there before when it was the Pacific Marina. The remodel is simple, in Scandinavian style (not my fav) but everything seems to be clean and in good working shape. Free wifi doesn’t hurt. Hash downstairs was a bit slow on breakfast and High upstairs, well, it’s high, OK?!? Great pick for Venice. And if you must eat lunch or dinner in Venice, visit Danny’s Deli, our fav. And don’t forget the fresh fruit guy on the boardwalk (OK, he has donuts too but ignore them, you’re on a beach!) Walk straight to boardwalk from hotel, turn left and head down about a block...fruit is on the left side corner! When on your balcony, look to the right, you’ll see Danny’s! Have fun in Venice hippies!

A glorious beach and a HUGE slice of life, all in the same place.

Great Find!

I stayed at the Hotel Erwin for two nights and was extremely satisfied with my visit. I was upgraded to a 5th floor room with views of Venice Beach, the Pacific, and Malibu. Room was clean, sleek, had a comfortable bed, and featured large flat screen TV. WiFi was also complimentary - unlike most (more expensive!) hotels. The restaurant HASH on the ground floor is great for brunch and High Bar (on the roof) overs panoramic views of Los Angeles.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

The rooftop bar/club can be noisy at night on weekends so request a room two floors below (5th floor) and away from the elevators.

The roofbar alone is reason to stay

The rooftop bar is now open and is a one of kind place. The views are amazing of the ocean and surrounding city and hills. Drinks are expensive but the staff is friendly and food was great. They also have a breakfast/lunch little cute restaurant downstairs in the lobby and outside. I didn’t upgrade to the more expensive room that directly faced the ocean but my room still had a bit of an ocean view and was more than adequate. You are right on the famous Venice boardwalk with so many shops and street performers, you could spend 2 days just walking around. Probably not the best spot to be walking around with little ones at night if you have a family. Yes, parking is $25.00/night. You can come and go as you please. You could probably parking in the nearby neighborhood if you choose.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Go hang out on Abbot Kinney Street. It is total cool and hip. Lots of shops, rest, bars. Really charming. Seems to be a local hangout as well.

Getting Hip in Venice Beach

Edgy modern details characterize this do-over (boutique) hotel and it really delivered but not just because of the hip architecture. The place attracts a deliciously weird and wonderful crowd, so enjoy the people watching! We really loved being voyeurs in the thick of the real Venice Beach - this hotel has an awesome location and if you’re tired of squeaky clean Santa Monica, looking for a bit more grime and adventure, this is it. But the kicker and why we fell in love was their little breakfast pad called Hash - wow, what a breakfast that was! Nice prices, nice portions, nice pleasure! Awesome food - highly recommend if you stay here, eat at Hash. No excuses. However, we were just too tired to head to the roof top spot, High, but I heard a number of times over from locals about how spectacular the view is. Go on... live a little. They don’t call it Joie de Vivre for nothing!
