OJAI RANCHO INN: RUSTIC CHARM, DIRTY POOL
This quite archaic and slightly updated remnant of an older era preserved its nice shelving scarred knotty pine walls and useful, even homey kitchenette with cabinets, a stove and a small refrigerator. You can comfortably stay here for quite some time. In the heart of August though, the poorly ventilated room was warm, but a/c was available. The beds headboard was a charming classic Southwestern with log and branch construction and the walls were festooned with western themed posters and ornaments. The bathroom was freshly repainted in lovely yellow and the sink had style. There was a large size TV and a DVD player was available. In the heat of summer, the pool and price were the reason we chose this hotel. We regretted not taking a sample of the very interesting species of algae that colonized the poorly maintained pool, but the water was pleasant. No one else seemed courageous to test the water. The jacuzzi was shut off. Overall we were hesitant between not recommending this place for any but the most adventurous, in order to preserve the pleasantly low price in a pricey area, and suggesting a few small upgrades which would make this a quaint and comfortable retreat, but would ruin our chances of returning for another quiet escape to Ojai. It does seem that the hotel rooms are being upgraded, but the pool needs immediate attention. The management does have two bikes available of which we unfortunately learned only at departure.
Traveler's tip on dining
Pleasant and tasty meal at Sea Fresh Seafood; 533 E Ojai Avenue. At least they were open late enough.

Nice stay in Ojai
The hotel was very spacious as well as comfortable. I enjoyed the Cowboy decor as well as the quaintness of the room. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and the employees were very kind. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, especially those staying in Santa Barbara and want to stay a little out of the way.

Simple and rustic cabin feel.
It was a decent place to stay for my son and I as we explored the Ojai wilderness. Not a place to take your girl. Kitchenette, but no pans, dishes or utensils at all. Bathroom was very clean. A bit of road noise if your room is up front. Window in bathroom would not lock. A bit dark and gloomy, but okay alternative to a tent.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
Great hiking areas just north of Ojai on hwy 33. Thai food just east of the hotel was great. Supermarket and shops located 1/2mi west.
