Great Hotel!
This was my first trip to Shanghai and I was very impressed with the Portman Ritz Carlton. The Hotel is outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone travelling to Shanghai. If possible, upgrade to the Club Level Rooms. It is well worth it.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
For those of you that enjoy Jazz there are some great Jazz Bars in Shanghai. Ask the Hotel Concierge for recommendations.

Excellent Place to relax after a long flight
From the time the Bellboy open your taxi and take care of your luggage you feel the relaxed comfortable sense at The Portman Ritz-Carlton. Excellent rastaurants, all you need is at a distance of dialing the reeception.

Shanghai
The Portman Ritz is a good option for business travelers with comfortable rooms, beds and good service. However, it strays from the usual profile of a Ritz Carlton in that it has less charm and is more institutional in feel than most Ritz properties. The staff is eager to please but we are always disappointed when a hotel charges for WiFi in this day and age--an amenity that is made free of charge at hotels that are one quarter of the price of this one and most US chains. There are several options for restaurants--Italian, authentic Chinese, and even a Starbucks adjoining the property. In all a good respite from a day fighting the staggering traffic congestion trying to get back to the hotel.
Traveler's tip for business travelers
WiFi is weak and expensive. Pack a swim suit as the pool is a nice feature and has lanes for swimming. Also, a nice health club is part of this property.
