Good Choice

Room is clean. Services is ok. The shuttle services is punctual. Location is convenient, as if you don’t want to take the shuttle, you can walk to/from Penn Station, coz it takes less than 10minutes to reach Penn Station. I think it is convenient for both leisure or business. Breakfast is really very simple, and everyday is exactly the same. You will get bored if you stay there 7days like us...

If you would like to have a comfortable stay while visiting Manhattan, i think this hotel is a good choice. Or else, you can choose to stay the hostel/motel in Manhattan, where the rate maybe cheaper, but not so comfortable. Or else, others 3stars hotel in Manhattan will be much more expensive.

Robert Treat is WONDERFUL

I always stay at this hotel. It’s familiar and has wonderful services. Parking is never an issue either and it’s really close to the subway to make getting into New York City even easier. It’s a great hotel to stay in and save money.

Great Hotel, close to the PATH!

My stay at this hotel was unbelievable! First of all we got there at 10 in the morning, I asked for early check-in and they were more than happy to do it. (I’ve never checked in that early to a hotel without getting charged an extra day!) The room was very clean, and the service was superb! I forgot the code to the safe that I was using in the room and they sent someone up within 5 minutes and had the safe open. I’ve never had that great of service ANYWHERE! You are only 4 blocks from the PATH which we used as we were doing everything in NYC. It lets you off at the WTC, and you can catch any subway from there. The staff is super friendly and very very helpful. The surrounding neighborhood is a little shady, but you are right next to a Police Station, and they have around the clock security. If you are looking for a reasonably rated hotel, that is nice, and is close to the PATH this is the place to stay. You will NOT be disappointed!

Purchase a PATH pass. But make sure you buy a 10 ride pass at a Hudson newsstand. If you buy it at Hudson’s you will save yourself $4.00. They may not sound like alot, but when you are going back and forth into NYC, it adds up. Between the PATH Pass and the Subway Pass, we saved a total of $30.00

Lovely stay - perfect holiday

Kiveky staff, the front desk could be more smiley, but the breakfast staff were very polite and kind. The shuttle service is very effective. Very easy access to Penn Station PATH lines - only a 5 min walk. Definitly worth staying in Newark when going on vaccation to N.Y, they money saved staying in the Garden State NJ can be spent shopping in the city :)

Traveler's tip on shopping

Do not go to the City without a stop at Century 21 at Cortland Str. You can see the department store sign when exiting the PATH station at WTC. The best shopping is done here, at discount prices. A MUST :)

Small rooms

The rooms were small compared to most hotel’s accommodations. The queen bed occupied most of the room. Other than that my stay was comfortable and given the relatively low rate I paid the small room was acceptable.

Good hotel, small room

Overall the hotel was just fine for my three day stay in September 2009. My only real disappointment was in the size of my room: quite small as was the bathroom; the door to the bathroom was extremely narrow, so any person of size would have difficulty getting into the bathroom, even sideways! There was free parking, although the parking area is small and requires you to back into the parking spot--not the easiest. The free breakfast was wonderful, the lobby attractive, the elevators really fast, and the hotel was only a short walk to the train station for travelling into NYC. I would definitely stay there again, only I’d upgrade my room to assure a larger room. The small room had two double beds, two chairs, a desk, a bureau, and 40" flat screen TV, a refrigerator and a large mirrored closet--everything you need, just too much for the room size.

A Good Place To Stay

The hotel is excellent for the price. Service is good and fast. Only the wifi connection is not very convincing, it is instable. Commute to NYC is easy, just take the shuttle bus of the hotel or walk the 2 blocks to the station

Much nice than we expected.

The hotel had a beautiful elegant lobby and the rooms were very nice & very clean. The window even opened to get some fresh air. We stayed 3 nights & were very pleased. The staff including the chambermaids were very helpful. The breakfast was very good & plentiful. Unfortunately, the area is not that great. And parking was tight although free.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The hotel is right next to NJPAC where they had a free outdoor summerfest with music, dancing, and vendors every Thursday in the summer. You can even go on the rooftop of the hotel & listen to the music & view the Manhattan skyline.

good deal

The trickiest part of this hotel was figuring out where to park. Once we realized you enter the parking lot around the back of the building we were all set. The staff was courteous and helpful. Our room was nice and clean. We never had a problem with the hotel shuttle. My only complaints were that the beds were smaller than what I imagined and there’s nothing else in the area. Other than that, it was a good value for our money. If I were traveling to New York again I would definitely consider staying in this hotel.

Traveler's tip

Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t really wander around the hotel after dark. It had a different atmosphere at night and it wasn’t a comfortable one.

Nice hotel but not for traveling every they to manhattan

The hotel was nice and clean. We travel all the week to NYC and the station to take the train to nyc was 10min walking but they had a shuttle that leaves every 30 min though. they also pick up from the station every time you need. They also have a free shuttle top the newark airport. sometimes is really tiering to have to travel almost an hour from manhattan to the hotel, I think is better spend a little more money in a hotel in manhattan rather than in one in newark if what you are looking for is going to manhattan the whole week.

Seemed nice at first...

Service was generally inconsistent. Some front desk staff was kind, others were impatient. The free-every-half-hour transportation to the PATH is a convenient concept. But the shuttle bus will barely wait five seconds if you’re not standing right there when it arrives. Twice we had to chase down our shuttle bus. Room was very clean, but toilet was clogged when we arrived. They sent maintenance up and we couldn’t believe what he asked us to do after fixing it--throw the TP away in the garbage instead of in the toilet! Newark is not a pretty site either. We asked for a river view and got it but also got an eyeful of a grimy industrial landscape. Expect at least 45 minutes to get between your hotel to Manhattan (shuttle then PATH) and vice versa.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Should you stay in Newark for purposes of visiting New York City, I highly recommend purchasing all-day or all-week passes since the MTA subway in Manhattan takes you pretty much anywhere. Take advantage of the shuttle service at the hotel since the surrounding area is not the safest for walking especially at night. Just be sure to be there right on the half-hour if you want picked up!

Perfect in everyway.

I stayed at the Robert Treat hotel for 5 days in August to attend a HS Reunion in Central NJ. I wanted a location near public transportation so I could hop on a bus or a train to go either to Manhattan or to other locations around the Metropolitan area. I wasn’t disappointed. Newark Penn Station is a short 5 minute walk. The shuttle isn’t even necessary. There are buses practically outside the hotel as well. The neighborhood is fine for a person like myself who grew up in an urban area. Hint: Go to the dollar store across the street to get your bottled water. The people who work at the hotel are very nice and do everything to make your stay enjoyable. The housekeeping department is great. All the hotel workers were very accommodating. I did a lot of research about hotels around the Newark area and this one is truly the BEST. You really get the biggest bang for your buck! I could go on and on about how great this hotel is, but you’ll have to book there yourself to find out.

Parking Nightmare

The hotel service, maintenance, cleanliness, and comfort were great, and the staff was friendly. Parking at the hotel was a nightmare! During our stay the valet wrecked our car, and neglected to tell us about it until we were checking out. The owner of the hotel was very nice, but said he was going to reimburse us for a night and it never happened. The hotel did pay for the damages to our vehicle. Upon leaving we witnessed someone in the parking lot back into a car twice. Dont recommend if you have a car with you!!

Revitalized Area

I was worried at first because people were telling me that this was a bad area of town. We had no problems even later in the evening. Staff was helpful depending on who was working. Short walk to PATH train which then took us to the WTC subway station in Manhattan. Good value for the money. Would definitely stay there again.

Very nice for the price

My new husband & I chose RT for our honeymoon to NYC because of the proximity to Newark Penn Station. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the restaraunt was VERY good and the facilities were well maintained. We never had trouble calling the hotel for the shuttle. For a nice stay at a reasonable price (certainly better than what you’d get staying in Manhattan), I would DEFINITELY recommend RT again.

Best Western - Always dependable

A Beautiful hotel at an excellent location in Newark. It is very clean and very comfortable. You have easy access to New York City and yet cleverly avoid the rush of that city. There are restaurants within walking distance. Friendly and helpful staff make you feel welcome.

Great setup for NY day trips

The Robert Treat is in a terrific location for day trips into NYC. Easy walk or free hotel shuttle to and from the Newark Penn train station. Free parking during our stay as well! Would return here and would recommend to others. Left the hotel around 6PM on a Friday expecting heavy traffic - didn’t happen - the city was easy to get out of.
