Very nice hotel, but not quite a total 5
Hotel is really nice, especially if you are looking for some place different to stay (mostly modern decor, with a one artist theme). The U2 train station is right outside the front door, so this is easy access to the city. But if you want to walk to the Brandenburg Gate, for example, it will take awhile. Better to take the subway, but then you miss some minor sightseeing along the way. Night life in the area is non-existent, but there are some restaurants and the nice River Spree right around the corner. Room was clean and nice. Bathroom could use some minor updating. Bed was hard, but the pillows and comforter were great. Breakfast is indeed expensive. But the price is not different from any other hotel of this quality. We did not try the breakfast, but chose to find a bakery along our way to sightseeing.
An extra bed (i.e. for children (or even adults) approx. 2 years and older) costs 20 Euros on top of your room price. A baby bed is free.

Highly recommended!
What a beautiful experience with fabulous service and relaxing, modern decor. It was a highlight of my visit to Berlin! The hotel was trendy, comfortable, reasonably priced, and located near a quaint Berlin neighborhood and the River Spree. It is within walking distance of Museum Island and Brandenburg Gate with a metro stop right outside the door.

Excellent hotel
While one expects German hotels to be clean and well run, the young, dynamic staff of the hotel set an even higher standard of service. From printouts of directions to the fabulous breakfast (paid separately) one constantly felt the hotel and its staff wanted one to have a wonderful experience.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
There is a Metro stop just outside the front door of the hotel which provided a most economical way to get anywhere in Berlin
