Little Find in Santa Fe

wonderful, clean small hotel. Great location. Tight parking behind the hotel. Breakfast had no fruit and warm milk. Good find for Santa Fe which is very $$$$$.

great location but too loud

the hotel itself was conveniently located close to the main plaza but the room i had was too close to a busy street. the room was clean and comfortable otherwise. i would definitely stay here again but only in a room back away from the road and all the noise.

Insufficient Heat

We arrived on 12/27 in a light snow storm. The room had an insufficient heating system for that weather. Front desk said that the heater would work "eventually" - it never did. Room had obvious water damage and plaster coming apart. The next day we asked for another room. The room we were shown had no working heater and only a small electric space heater - completely inadequate. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone in the winter months.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

We moved to Las Palomas on San Francisco Street / Park St. - wonderful. Close to the Plaza, great heater and small fireplace in the room. Staff at the hotel were wonderful and I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Santa Fe.

My Spot in Santa Fe

I spent the a weekend in Santa Fe staying at the Dancing Ground of the Sun. This accommodation was perfect. The location topped everything, but it was accompanied by a friendly staff and cozy rooms. I would stay here any time I visit Santa Fe.

Clean, attractive, and convenient

We got an excellent Expedia rate at this hotel, which is extremely convenient to the center of Santa Fe, particularly helpful during Indian Market. It is not a business hotel and would not be recommended for someone who needs access to a business center or complicated services. But we liked it very much. The room had a viga fireplace, a large bathroom with a lovely skylight, plenty of space, and attractive decor. We used the air conditioning, but also were happy that we could open the windows. The location is relatively quiet - some street traffic sound was all. No internet service here, but wi-fi in the lobby of the sister facility, Camas, which is about a block away. Included breakfast is modest: coffee, fruit, juice, cereal, bagels, with the nice extra of make-your-own waffles. We like the place because it is pretty, clean, close, and quiet. And has free parking. The staff are rather reserved.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The IAIA (Institute of American Indian Art) Museum nearby has interesting contemporary art shows and an excellent shop. It’s a good place to see good quality American Indian contemporary work. Not all art in Santa Fe is this good. Also the shops and restaurants on Palace Avenue give an excellent capsule of Santa Fe’s variety and high quality. Casa Sena and the Shed are popular nearby restaurants. Anasazi, the Ore House, and Santacafe are also excellent.

Some rough edges

Had some problems checking in: the office was closed and no sign, no indication of what to do. Calling the number yielded an answering machine. Finally knocked on another guest’s door to get an emergency contact number who was able to direct us to the after-hours registration site down the street and around the corner. While there’s supposed to be a few fliers in a bin, this does not constitute a solution. A permanent, clear sign hung inside the glass of the door or at a prominent window is the only reliable way to get that message out. It’s sheer luck we didn’t end up having to sleep in the car (Santa Fe was fully booked). After that, though, the stay was perfectly fine. Staff uniformly polite and helpful. Clean, comfortable, and relatively inexpensive with a great location. I’d definitely stay there again, especially since I already know how to check in at night...

Great location

Location is fabulous! Walked everywhere from hotel’s location....this made the visit very enjoyable. Room is too light to sleep in. Draperies do not cover the windows. Rooms are right on the main street, just 8 - 10 feet away, so you do hear the road/car noise. Price is great for location.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Park at the hotel and head out to Canyon Road on foot (2 blocks away) for a day of Gallery Shopping and Art Viewing. Or, head right down to the Plaza and Downtown area, again on foot. This is a fabulous location with free parking.

Too many little things wrong.

Ice bucket in room, but no ice available. Had to ask for enough towels for two. Bathtub was dangerously slippery. even though textured. A lot of street noise late night, early morning. No air conditioning and room was warm; no security on windows facing street at ground level. Breakfast was simple continental, limited options. (Beware; hotel is listed as a B&B in some on-line advertising.)

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Hotel is within easy walking of the Santa Fe plaza, and convenient to travel routes on Santa Fe’s north end.

nice idea that fails miserably

Calls itself a bed and breakfast, but I have slept in better beds and had better breakfasts at 1 star travel motels. Heat did not respond to turning down the thermostat, broken deadbolt on the room door, no clean dishes at self serve breakfast, room door less than 12 feet from the busiest and noisiest street in the downtown Santa Fe area, changed the towels daily but not the sheets, missing tv remote, a fax sent for me that I personally had to chase down several hours after it had been sent despite the fact that my room was 15 feet from the office where it sat on the fax machine. And the worst of it was the fact that nobody in charge ever seemed to really give a damn. They just looked up in wonderment that we were expecting something to be done about our concerns. Never again.

Traveler's tip

There are far better places to stay within walking distance of the Santa Fe plaza. don’t waste your effort or money here.

Not bad, price was right

Very old B&B that has been rehabed. Needs lots of detail attention, but the price was good (got a big discount off the rack rate).

Traveler's tip

Very close to the town square which was nice.
