Great Location on the Hip Strip
Hotel is dated, but for the money, it is a great deal. Our room was very clean and just fine for the two nights we were there, and it only took a few minutes to get there from the airport. In fact, we arrived several hours before check in and our room was ready. We had a nice balcony that overlooked the street. However, given the age of the hotel, it was noisy at night. Doctors Cave beach is just across the street and we did some great snorkeling. Had to pay for the inroom safe. Had dinner at the Jamaica Bob Sled Cafe - wonderful pizza. All the staff at the hotel were great...absolutely no problems at all. If you want an inexpensive hotel in a great location - this is for you. If you are looking for a fancy five star hotel - go to an expensive all inclusive, but you will not have the pleasure of interacting with the wonderful people of Jamaica.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Margueretaville is just a walk away, and is a must go to place - can swim, sun, just enjoy. The Pork Pit has the BEST jerk food and the coldest Red Stripe in Jamaica. Doctors Cave Beach has great sand, calm water, and snorkeling.

Not Bad For Budget Travel
Lets be honest - this is no luxury hotel. It has 4 walls, a shower and clean bed in an air conditioned room with satellite TV. As of September 1, 2008 there is NO wireless access within the rooms. There is a computer in the lobby hooked up to the internet for which they charge $6 for 15 minutes. You are better off at the internet cafe down the street which is $2 for 15 minutes. Dont plan on eating in the restaurant in the hotel since it has a very limited menu and is quoted in American dollars. Service is not attentive. This hotel is however located directly across from Doctors Cave beach and does have free parking plus 24 hour security which is always nice. They also have a tour desk and can arrange tours for you. If you are a just looking for a cheap place to stay its fine really. Oh and the jacuzzi was broken so it didnt heat up.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Want to save money? Try to eat where locals eat and pay in Jamaican currency. The Pork Pit and the guys who make jerk chicken at night by the park are great places to start. Change your money at the Cambio or Cambio King for best rates.

It was ok
If you are trying to save some money then you may want to stay here, but the other hotels that I have stayed at previously were al much better. They were inclusive resorts though. Here nothing was included, and there was no shade around the hotel pool.

Stay away from this hotel
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, their were no refridgerator in the room, I had to ask for a iron that did not work and they ask for a deposit of $50.00 us dollars for what I dont know because there was nothing in the room to drink or snack on. Neither was there anything in the room to take. I definely would not stay their anymore. It is convient to everything, but thats about it. By the way I was going to stay longer, but I chose to spend one night and go somewhere else.

Yikes!
We were extremely disappointed with the Glousteshire. The place was a total dump! Although we didnt expect the Ritz Carlton, for the money we spent, we thought wed at least have a comfortable bed! This hotel is in serious need of a renovation!! The only good thing we can say is that the staff was polite and helpful.

Beach across street
The hotel is right across the street from beautiful Doctors Cave Beach. The hotel service is great. Only downside is that hotel is a bit run down. The waterfall by the pool was not working and all yucky.
Beautiful Doctors Cave Beach is great for everyone, but anything else around the hotel can feel unsafe. So many locals hanging out trying to sell you drugs all along the sidewalks, in front of the stores and in the crafts market.

Hotel is no frills
The hotel is located directly across from Doctors Cave and its on the main strip. I prefer a hotel with a little more ambience. The breakfast was good. I left my bathing suit in the bathroom and when I called the hotel it was "lost". Stay here if you only want to sleep and bath.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
The breakfast is a good way to start the day and Doctors Cave is a great beach but keep in mind, everything cost! You can easily spend $125.00 for five days at the beach. Try to make arrangements with one taxi driver to take you around on your stay, this is a lot cheaper then using a different driver everyday.

ust Fine!
I have stayed in hotels and villas in Jamaica for over 10 years and this was the first stay at the Gloustershire Hotel. I was basic on the outside and maybe even rundown looking, but the inside was a welcomed surprise. It had a cool pool, adorable patios on several levels and the rooms were VERY much the same as other upscale and all inclusive hotels. I stayed there one night and moved on the Grand Lido Braco and there wasnt a huge difference in the interior. I still feel like all island hotels need to update the bathrooms, but other than that, it was fine for a quick weekend or overnight stay. I do love the balconys in the front because the sunsets there and its high enough to erase all your cares quick! Also, its nice to watch the culture unfold at the downtown hotel.

Yes! I cant wait to go back
My stay was soooo good, the people at the hotel was so friendly, the room was very nice, I had a garden view room and it was nice.I will be going back there in August. I was right in the middle of every thing, shopping, Nitelife, everything,

exterior needs work, only tv and bed in room
The exterior needs painting, the "garden" needs lots of work. It took more than 24 hours to get clean towels on one occasion. There is no refrigerator or microwave. The base of the room was mildewed. There were no beach towels available on one occasion. The tub would back up while showering.

Average facility, good location
Wasnt too impressed with staff. Room wasnt ready at check-in; had to wait for 2 guys to hang drapes while we stood around in the room. AC unit was loud and in need of replacement, managed to make the noise stop. Apparent shortage of washcloths; had to request them at desk because they didnt stock them in the room on days 2-6. Clean enough, and liked the layout with open patios and pool access. Comparable to other hotels at similar rates, with a few employees who have seen too many guests.
At night, the street is different. People assume you want to purchase illicit goods. Beware taxi drivers who recommend massage parlors a few minutes away. Those peddling their wares can be very persistent. Although probably a rarity, we did hear gunfire outside the room on the last night. A guy I once worked with was murdered in Jamaica a few years ago, so bring your common sense on vacation with you.

Great location - but oh so dreary...
Stayed at this location because of the availability of rooms within the vicinity during my trip. Stayed one night only for the convenience of the nightlife on Mobays "Hip Strip." Hotel staff not very friendly and the bathroom was very much dated.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
This location is very accessible to restauarants, nightlife (i.e Margaritaville), Doctors Cave Beach, shops, etc....

Dont expect luxury
This is an older hotel situated next to a noisy street. On a positive note, this is a central location near a popular paid beach, and for the price, the hotel represents a good value in this area of expensive resorts. There is limited free parking, so if you have a car, check in as early as possible. Do not expect a vaction resort experience. This is an exterior corridor hotel without an air conditioned lobby or corridors. The rooms have old fashioned locks, raising concerns about security, and the room safes are too small to hold a laptop computer. There were no 3-pronged, US-style electrical outlets. There were either the old fashioned two-pronged outlets or else the 3-pronged UK-style outlet. The air conditioning was powerful but noisy, but its noise was useful in drowning out the traffic noise from the street below, which lasted all night long. Jamaicans like to honk. Shampoo dispenser in the bath room was empty, couldnt find housekeeping to get shampoo or a do not disturb sign. Water pressure was insufficient for taking a bath.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Montego Bay is a tourist trap, and expect to be bothered by street hustlers, particularly after dark. A short distance to the east is Jamaicas Gold Coast, where it is possible to have a more enjoyable stay in Jamaica without the traffic, noise, and hustlers, where you can drive up to the beach and interact with real Jamaicans, who are polite and respectful of your privacy.

MoBay Horror Hotel
This hotel was dirty and lacked any of the usual amenities provided by most hotels such as clean room floors, linens and bedding, complimentary toiletries, properly lit jacuzzi, gardenview suites and most importantly, courteous staff.

Not impressed
When I first arrived to check in, my room was unprepared and not even ready until an hour after check in time. As frustrating as that was and on top of that, the front desk service was extremely rude and didnt apologize at all. The room was a bit dirty when we arrived and they didnt give us enough towels whenever they cleaned the room. Besides the negatives, the hotel was in a convenient location being directly across from Doctors Cave Beach, and within walking distance to good restaurants and night life. Overall, it wasnt the worst hotel experience, but it wasnt the best. It was mainly the customer service that irked me.
Traveler's tip on dining
If you want some cheap but good Jamaican food (jerk pork especially), go to the Pork Pit. You can grab a more than filling meal for only about $3. Margaritaville is more on the expensive side, but it does have good food and its a great place to party at night. Just take a walk around the town and youre bound to find some quality food for exceptional prices.

Perfect beach destination
This hotel was perfectly set across from a beautiful beach, shopping and GREAT nightlife. The staff at the hotel were extremely helpful, the hotel was very secure, placed at a great location directly across from Doctors Cave beach, and within walking distance from nightclubs and bars. Expect to get more than you expected to for the amount you spend for this affordable hotel. The people of Montego Bay were extremely welcoming and entertaining. My friend and I had such a great time that we are planning another trip within 6 months and expect to stay at this same hotel. We couldnt have planned a more perfect vacation. We highly recommend this place if youre not one for all inclusive, super expensive destinations. Glouceshire Hotel provided the safe and clean place to sleep with all the typical hotel amenities such as pool/restaurant/cable/etc. that all travelers would expect to have during their vacations. Lastly, the shop right outside of the hotel is owned by the nicest and most hospitable folks that we repeatedly visited throughout our stay in Montego Bay. The shop proved to be an additional perk we did not expect.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
Dont forget to visit Margaritaville (as if you would). Great nightclub! Tourists early night, and locals join after midnight. Thats when it was most enjoyable. Also, dont forget to visit this place during the day for great dining and swimming.

great value for the price
hotel was great for the price, beach was accross with great snorkling, bar, and service, be aware that no natives to hassle you after you get in but before, forget it. the hotel had a waterfall, we did not take the all-inclusive and that was good, exchange for jamica money and you will get more money for your dollar, stay away from the downtown straw market, a complete rip-off, downtown montego bay was great except for the straw market.
Traveler's tip on shopping
natives are aggressive and out to rip you off, one of the phrases was i am your waiter, remember me, the shops are a rip-off, want jamaica coffee, i am going to the mountain, let me have 20$ and i can buy 4lbs, i am your waiter, course i tore the bill in half and told him i would see him later, he refused for obvious reasons.

gloustershire hotel
The Gloustershire Hotel was clean and the staff friendly. Breakfasts were great as was dinner when we dined in. The decor could have been better - the paint job was a slap on job. I had talked to the hotel direct which said breakfast was included - I booked with expedia as you save when you book your flight and hotel together. Booking combined did not include breakfast. There was no hairdryer in the room and no iron. On New Years Eve when I called reception for an iron - I was told they didnt have any - they were out. When you book the hotel - it is described what is available close by - what the description failed to mention is there was a daily fee to go to the beach across the street. This beach is used as a marketing tool for the hotels on that strip but your not told that there will be additional costs. Disappointing! Travelers Tip Category: Other Travelers Tip: Make sure you request breakfast included and enquire of additional costs not mentioned in their description.

Nothing special. Sheets were clean and room was air conditioned.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
Beware of the Dr. Cave Hotel Bar. I had a $425 charge on my bank card that I am getting the run around about. Im going to have to eat this charge. STAY CLEAR of this place. It is a couple of buildings down to the right of the Gloustershire Hotel.

It served its purpose
The lobby was nice, but the restaurant was not a good deal. It was expensive but the food was disappointing. The maids did a good job of keeping our room presentable. Everything works, though. The toilet flushes slow. :-D
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Dont forget the complimentary drink upon arrival and the complimentary cocktail parties on Friday evenings (5-6 pm), where food and drinks are served. The exchange rate at the hotel was better (at the time of our visit) than the cambios in the area.

Loved it!
I was staying here three days and absolutely love it. Great food, clean room, very nice helpfull staff and beach across the road. Loved internet in the room. So next day I shared all pics with my friends. If I have few days in Montego Bay again, I definetely know where to stay.
