Really great place!
Driving into this hotel looked a little sketchy, kind of an old fashioned "U" shape. Also right next to the freeway and railroad. *HOWEVER*, there were no negatives. The room was newly reconditioned and absolutely spotless. We had a small fridge, microwave, coffee maker, really nice furnishings and one of the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever seen. The service was great, we were there for 5 nights and the expanded continental breakfast was also good, complete with waffle station. We could see the ocean out our back window and the footbridge over the freeway was 1/2 block away, and you’re right on the beach with a fabulous promenade for running, walking or biking or just watching the surfers. We were visiting my daughter who lives in Camarillo and we are glad we stayed in Ventura. We love the ocean and Ventura is a darling little town with great shops and restaurants. PS, there is only one night where a train comes in the "night". Otherwise it’s commuter train and ends by 7pm.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Hit the Trader Joe on Victoria St. exit and stock up on your snacks & lunch fixins. As I said, you get a decent breakfast at the hotel, then you can go out for your dinners. Drive up to Ojai, really cool farmer’s market on Sunday ams; then there’s of course the Pacific Coast Highway where you can drive into LA and go along the beaches of Malibu, etc...and the promenade was great for a morning run and evening walk.

Everyone was happy to help and to please. The rooms have been beautifully upgraded. I had business in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties and it had easy access to the freeway.
