Not imressed, to say the least

Perferct location but for continuous construction works around (we were not imformed that we would be living on the construction site for the full room price!)The cleaning lady would make her appearance late afternoon just to show her disrespect to the job she "had to do for living" : no tips for sure.

Pleasent

The hotel was in an excellent location. The staff was polite. The only drawback was that it does not have free internet and the have only one machine in the business center. There was construction work going on outside the hotel. On the whole the hotel was very good and a great location.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Stay in the center and you can walk to most places that are important.

Beautiful hotel. Would stay there again.

We read while staying at the hotel that Mozart played on this property. Amazing, of all the hotels... Only negative comment is the very pricey breakfast!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

St. Stephan’s Church where Mozart was married. Climbing the 343 steps in the tower was an experience. Boat tour of the Danube River and going through a channel lock. Visiting the Mozart House. Eating ice cream at Zanoni & Zanoni.

good hotel but didnt tell me there was construction across from room

good hotel, nothing to complain since we had large comfortable, clean rooms etc. But we were not told up front about the huge construction project going on non-stop across the street ...couldnt opne windows and even with closed windows could hear the constant din. for the amount of money paid, that was not expected. Once construction is complete, this would be a great hotel to stay in. excellent location!

Would definitely go back!

The hotel was perfect for our needs. It is located right in the middle of the pedestrian street between the Opera Hours and St. Stephen’s. Walking distance to the Hofburg and museums. The second entrance is across the street from the Kaisergruft (Imperial Tombs). The front desk staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. We dropped packages off while shopping, and they delivered them to our room. Clean, excellent air conditioning. The only drawback was no room service or restaurant. I believe it was being redesigned.

Great hotel, great location

The Ambassador is well located between the Opera and the Stephansdplatz. The hotel was very well kept, room was large by European standards, comfortable, and well furnished. Not as opulent as Bristol or Imperial but far better located for the leisure traveller that wants to see the sights in old Vienna. There is some construction going on next door which created some noise during the day. Parking is expensive, 31 euros daily (and not at hotel). You may be better off parking a car yourself. Don’t need a car in this city anyway.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Get the 72 HOUR VIENNA CARD. Highly recommend taking the 38 tram or U4 train to the 38A bus to the area of Grinzing and Heiligenstadt to take in the wine gardens and up the hill at Kahlenberg for a view over the city.

Luxurious rooms at the center of Vienna!

Very large rooms, with high ceilings. Very comfortable. Showing a little age. The atrium has a bar, and often smells of cigarette smoke. Front desk is very helpful with dinner reservations. However, they did not give me the best advice for parking. They made me use the hotel parking for EUR 32 per night! The hotel is at the heart of Vienna. You come out, and you are within walking distance of St. Stephen’s Cathedral. And great restaurants nearby.

Traveler's tip on dining

Had amazing dinners at Immervoll and Ofenloch - within walking distance of the hotel. Plachutta was very good, but the choice is very limited if you don’t eat beef.

Pleasant surprise

Loved the location of the hotel - very easy to get to via train from the airport and very central to everything in Vienna. Although it’s an older building with a more "traditional" decor, the rooms are very clean, the bathroom is modern, and there’s a flat screen tv. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the size of my room (Note: I had a "Vienna Classic" double). Front desk staff was helpful, but could’ve been more cheerful.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The hotel does not have free wifi, but if you need quick email access, you can get it from the hotel next door. I could sit near the fountain and get wifi access with my ipod very easily. Might be less conspicuous with the laptop, though!

Ambassador Hotel - Nice, but not ’Four Star

My wife and I stayed for 8 nights in July 2009. I must say that I haven’t travelled in Europe that much. Maybe my dissapointment is a cultural thing. Overall our stay was good. But things I noticed: Housekeeping did not vacuum/empty trash every day. Turndown service seemed to be earlier each day (6pm while we are showering for dinner?) 25 Euros per person for breakfast?? No Iron in the room. No coffee maker in the room. Had to pay by the hour for the Internet. I have stayed in many US hotels. I cant remember the last time I wasn’t offered a complimentary light breakfast, coffee maker, iron and internet. Overall the room was nice.

Space and Style

Location, location and location are the keys to real estate and they are important for tourists too. The Ambassador has these - being central in the bustly, tourists-must-see part of the city. The rooms are spacious, well-appointed and quiet - the double-glazed windows all but shut out the sounds of the construction going on below. The service was unobtrusive, but there. My only complaint would be the high cost of extras, for example, wifi and laundry. The overall ethos was one of relaxed luxury.

Traveler's tip on shopping

The shopping around the hotel is excellent, but expensive. Try walking a few blocks on and you’ll find the same quality for less.

Great hotel, great location!

The Ambassador is right in the center of everything you want to do in downtown Vienna - opera, palace, concerts, Lippizaners, museum quarter...and it is also right on the main shopping avenue. Close to Metro, as well, for going out to the "summer palace", gardens, Zoo (the best and oldest Zoo in Europe). Lots of lovely small restaurants within walking distance, especially those 2-3 blocks off the main shopping avenue. First class hotel at a reasonable price. Highly recommend it.

They should invest into renovation

Perfect location, nice big hotel - but there is a need of some investment into say bathroom renovations as these are about 10 years old and it will be harder and harder for the hotel to keep up with 5* standard without some changes

Great central location

Only reason why the room did not get the highest rating was that we could not even out the temperature at night for all 3 occupants with the 3rd twin bed in the "parlor room." For transport from the airport, the hotel should have called us a taxi instead of sending their pricey hotel limo service. Breakfast should have been priced lower as some surrounding hotels.

Traveler's tip

Do Schonbrun Palace first day earliest hour, grand tour that includes the bakery. Diglas Cafe and Figmuller Restaurant ’r highly recommended! Vienna Boys Choir worth it. Walking Vienna is doable ’cept for horizontal rain. Get reservations for Opera tour early. Hydrafoil when weather is clear. Super train is great "cept for rude RR station ticketers and "mafia" taxis in other countries.

One Of Vienna’s best hotels

The hotel was just right for my trip, the location is simply the best, right in the middle of Kaerntner Strasse, it has one great restaurant, if ever you need a nice meal in the cold winter nights, when you don’t want to leave the hotel. And the Price is unbelievable.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Just in the middle of the prestigious Kaerntner Strasse, you can go back with shopping bags to drop at athe hotel and go back shopping again! That simple.

good location,services need improvement

We knew the hotel and we liked the location and the amenities but this time they offered us a tiny cold room and when we asked a better one they said that they are fully booked-in reality, after a time we could choose from a lot of rooms and we finally could get a warm and nice room. The nicest thing was when we arrived at the hotel at 3pm and, having the intention to sleep a little,we put ˙"Please do not disturb˙"on the door˙;after we felt asleep someone tried several times the door with lot of noise and after some minutes we received a telephone from reception, asking if we really wanted not to be disturbed-funny,isn’t it?

Traveler's tip on dining

go to eat near the hotel,at Kaiser Franz-good food, good prices!

Excellent hotel conveniently located

Had no fault with the hotel which provided great value for our stay. They seem in the process of making a number of upgrades and my only fear is that it may lead to a price increase.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Shopping is more reasonable in the department store area behind the Museum Quartier than on the famous Kartnerstrasse adjacent to the hotel.

EuroHotel

What a tragic night. at least there was free internet. Breakfast was dismal... Served from 7-10 when we got there at 7:30 nothing was left... Not even a coffee cup! The bed was so uncomfortable that I could not sleep and the walls are like paper so I could listen to the couple in the room next to us like an X rated movie (and I was traveling with my 10 year old son)... Never again!

Beautiful hotel in a great location!

I liked many things about this hotel: the location, the hardwood floors, the hotel staff was very accommodating, the classic look, the art work. I was extrememly satisfied with our stay. I would stay there again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This hotel is five minutes away from many sightseeing activities.

Great location!

The location of the Ambassador for reaching all the noted landmarks in the center of Vienna and for getting the full effect of the Viennese lifestyle can’t be beat. It was a great place to stay!
