Great place

Very laid back, plenty of lounge chairs by the pool and at the beach. Very nice outdoor spaces to relax. Nice atrium area inside with water flowing, a nice place to sit with morning coffee. Very good complimentary breakfast. Overall very happy with our stay, I was traveling with extended family that included 3 generations from 6 to 60+ and there was something for everyone to enjoy. Hotel is not new but well maintained and clean. Hotel is in secluded area and not really within easy walking distance to other activities or food. If you are looking for a destination resort where you can relax this is perfect.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

If you’d just like to take an evening stroll, the golf course has a cart path that runs along the roadway that we walked on several times, much safer than the road which is not well lit.

Had to switch hotels midway through honeymoon

We were a little disappointed from the start when we didn’t get so much as a congratulations for getting married the day before. We didn’t expect the BEST room but considering how many vacancies, it would have been nice to be given a higher floor with a better ocean view. Yes, there are 2 restaurants plus room service but no one mentions that they all serve the same food! You will be so sick of potato wedges you will never eat them again! The biggest thing was the fire alarm. Apparently the power goes out and then the fire alarm goes off. All the time. Twice the second night and the third night when we were up at 4:30am on our honeymoon listening to the wailing fire alarm and the repeated announcements that there was a power failure and it is a false alarm, we had had enough of it. We requested that they move us to the other Embassy Suites which we thought was a reasonable request and a way for them to keep our business. However, they were going to upcharge us for the move - unbelievable. The kicker was that although they claimed that they had no idea we could hear the alarm in our room (why the "false alarm" announcements then??), they said this had never happened before. Well, our cab driver told us this is a frequent occurence so fair warning. We instead moved to the Sheraton in Old San Juan and were treated to 3 fantastic days in the honeymoon suite (upgraded by them as a gift) and chocolate-covered strawberries. Now THAT is the way to treat your customers!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

There are no nearby restaurants - in fact, the italian restaurant on the property was closed. Nothing within walking distance - do yourself a favor and stay in Old San Juan - it is SOOOOOO much better!

It was Ok

Due to Easter the hotel was overcrowded with local crowd. The breakfast lines did not change their speed at all anytime during my stay. The pool was not well maintained either. It was an OK hotel.

WORST PLACE TO STAY YET.

FIRST OF ALL I PAYED FOR THE MOST EXPENSIVE ROOM WITH OCEAN VIEW. OCEAN VIEW TO THEM IS ON THE 3RD FLOOR WITH A BUNCH OF TREES IN FRONT OF YOU, . SO I COMPLAINED, AND FOUND OUT THE PICTURE OF THE RESORT DOES NOT COMPLETELY BELONG TO THE HOTEL. MOST OF THE PICURE WAS "AQUARIUS TIME SHARES". SO IT WAS NOT TRULY OCEAN VIEW, IT WAS AN OBSTRUCTED VIEW. I WAS REALLY UPSET. (THEY CHARGED 7 DOLLARS TO PARK IN A GRAVEL LOT) EXCEPT AFTER I PARKED I HAD TO GIVE UP MY KEYS, WHICH OF COURSE I REFUSED TO DO, (ALL THE PARKING ATTENDANTS THERE LOOKED YOUNG) SO I WENT OVER TO THE FRONT DESK, AND TOLD THEM THAT I WILL NOT GIVE MY KEYS TO ANYONE UNLESS THEY CAN GUARANTEE THE SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE, THEY SAID NOT TO WORRY AND THEY WERE INSURED, SO WHEN I ASKED FOR A COPY OF THE INSURANCE POLICY THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PARKING ATTENDANTS DID NOT WORK FOR THE HOTEL, BUT THEY WERE AN OUTSOURCED COMPANY. SO I SPOKE TO THE "MANAGER" OF THE OUTSOURCED COMPANY AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY WERE INSURED, BUT HE DID NOT HAVE ANY PROOF AT THE MOMENT THAT THEY WERE INSURED AND HE WOULD GET ME A COPY OF THE POLICY THE NEXT DAY, SO UNFORTUNATELY I HAD TO SURRENDER MY KEYS. THE NEXT DAY WHEN I ASKED FOR THE INSURANCE POLICY, THE STILL WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE IT TO ME, SO I INFORMED THEM THAT I WILL NOT SURRENDER MY KEYS UNTIL IT IS PRODUCED, THEY WERE UNABLE TO PRODUCE IT, AND IT WAS A BIG HASSLE EVERYTIME I PARKED MY CAR FOR THE ENTIRE 7 DAYS.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

ALL THE ROOMS THAT WE WERE BOUNCES AROUND IN, ALL HAD A MUSTY SMELL, AND THE CARPETS FELT WET. . . NOT SURE WHY? ALSO, NO CONCIERGE SERVICE, WE SPENT AN ENTIRE DAY TRYING TO BOOK ACTIVITIES. WE HAD TO MAKE ALL THE CALLS, MAP OUT HOW TO GET THERE, CALL SEVERAL LOCATIONS JUST TO FIND OUT THAT THEY WERE OUT OF BUSINESS, OR ONLY OPEN ON FRIDAYS, ETC. IT WAS JUST SUCH A WASTE OF TIME. USUALLY A CONCIERGE IS WILLING TO MAKE THOSE CALLS FOR YOU. . . JUST EXPECTED MORE, AND GOT WAY WAY LESS.

I found the staff to be very helpfull . The breakfasts were fantastic. Although parking was tight the attendants did a great job throughout our stay. The room was spacious and well kept. All in all we would and probably will go back in the future.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Don’t miss the breakfast It’s the best complementary breakfast we ever had in a hotel.

A great place to stay!

If you want a quiet place to relax, enjoy the beach, and take in the sun, this is the place for you. Very clean and modern, the hotel is situated one the north coast, just outside of the small village of Dorado. It’s only a 14 mile ride into downtown San Juan and all the night life. We rented a car and visited other beaches and sites while we were there. The breakfast is free . . .and plentiful! The suite has a fridge, so you can get some sandwich materials at the local store and just lunch in the room. We travel a lot, and we were very pleased with everything during our stay.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Don’t be afraid to rent a car! Yes, the driving can be a little different from the mainland US, but it’s not that different. By the time you pay cab fare from and to the airport, you’ve paid almost as much as you’d pay for a week’s car rental. There are many great things to see, but without a car, you’re pretty much stuck at the hotel.

great hotel- great location!

The hotel is beautiful and has all the beach and pool ambience and activities. The people are friendly and the breakfast was fabulous everyday! The location allows for trips to the excursions on the east side, while also being close enough to tour the telescope and the caves west of Dorado! Totally recommend this hotel!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The roads are great but the drivers are crazy- but it is a great way to see the diversity of attractions on the island!

Nice hotel...great location!

The hotel service was great. The rooms are in need of a paint job and the bathroom have mold growing on the shower ceiling. Other than that, the hotel was fine and worth the money. When considering on visiting, visit on Monday thru Friday only and NOT on school vacations. The hotel opens its doors to the locals. I didn’t appreciate that I am spending money to stay in the hotel and the locals get to use the beach & pools for free. Not to mentions the amount of locals that come in. Don’t book for the weekend!! The hotel food was very good and being from Boston, it wasn’t all that expensive. But the service is horrible! We ate at the hotel restaurant 3 times and all 3 times it took more that 2 hours to complete the meal. Be patient! If you feel you need to get out and go to a different restaurant, take a 10min. ride to Moreno’s. A little expensive but awesome!!

Good holiday

Good location, friendly staff, extensive free breakfast, lovely pool (the hotel graciously extended us a 2pm checkout due to a late flight out of San Juan. The only negatives were musty smelling room and dirty beach.

Really nice place

Went w/family and friends to celebrate my 50th and was not disappointed. The free drinks from 5:30-7:30 was a great touch. The live music on the w/e was great! The breakfast was spectacular. Only the poolside bar service was slow the first day but it got better and the hotel restaurant food was limited and expensive. Local eateries right outside the compound. It’s somehwhat removed from civilization but it’s what I was looking for. I’d go back!

Nothing speical about this hotel, wouldn’t go back

The hotel is clean but average at best. The location is isolated with not much to do. You need to rent a car rather than spend excessive amounts of money on taxi rides to San Juan, old San Juan, Rain Forest and other attractions. The beach is terrible, very small, don’t expect a Caribbean feel. You need to travel to other areas of the island to see some beautiful beaches. Stay in the San Juan, (La Cocha, El San Juan or Intercontinental), the beach is nice, there are good restaurants and old San Juan is very close.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Golf at Dorado Beach Club with excellent, but expect to pay $110 to $200 per round.

We’ll go back!

Great family resort. We’ll take our adult kids and grand son next time. Very freindly staff. I’ll take my clubs next time.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Rent a car if you plan any site seeing or dining out.The resort has only one restaurant, other than the pool area bar. Free made to order breakfast a plus, as was the every evening free happy hour.

This resort feels like a community

This was a great hotel for families with school age kids. It has a small beach, but the jedis on each side keep the large waves out and allows kids to swim without fear. The hotel forms a u-shape around the well-maintained pool area which gave me a sense of security. I felt safe sending my 9 & 12 year olds down to the pool 15 minutes before me. I’m so glad we did not stay on the strip of beach in San Juan with all the high rise hotels. I would have been nervous having thousands and thousands of people sharing my beach area with my family.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you plan to rent a car, don’t forget to learn the spanish words for "east", "west", etc before you arrive. The roads are fine and traffic is not terrible. However, the signs directing you to tourist sites are not the best. We drove past absolutely everything we tried to find! Buy a really good map!

Just OK

We had a great time, great weather, great local resteraunts, good service but.... We were disappointed in the condition of the hotel. It is tired and in need of reconditioning. It’s still an Embassy Suites for better or worse.

Traveler's tip on dining

There are some great resteraunts in the area serving the freshest seafood and Puerto Rican dishes. Don’t be afraid to ask the hotel staff for recommendations. Our favorite....Terraza. Just a few minutes drive away from the hotel, open air seating and great food.

Nice Location

The location of the hotel was very nice. The landscaping was beautiful. However, the rooms could be upgraded. They were just average. We were not impressed with the inside.

Traveler's tip on dining

The town of Dorado was very nice. There were many restaurants and the food was great. The front desk can provide recommendations.

Loved it. Will do it all over again.

Before anything I am happy to say that I loved the hotel. My fiance and myself loved it all. While their we had visited many family members. Myself i learned that my uncles had worked their many years ago which was amazing. The rooms were beautiful and very comfortable. The view we requested was breath taking. We had our agenda for the week while we staid their. All it took was going to the gym, shower, breakfast and beach. After the beach we left the hotel and traveled for the day. The staff were so nice and took the time to discuss what was available. Its beautiful all over. Like I said I would do it again.

Traveler's tip

Carry bathing suits, sun block, camera carry extra cash and definitely rent a car.

Really Nice Hotel

This hotel was really nice, I especially like the lobby and the fact that hot breakfast was complimentary. The pool and beach are so beautiful, we almost had everything we needed right at the hotel! I recommend doing the massage there at the hotel, its very very reasonable and relaxing. Get a cab if you plan on going to old san juan where all the beautiful monuments and museums are, it’s about a 30 min drive from the hotel. I definitely recommend this hotel for families and for couples, my boyfriend and I plan on returning real soon.
