Declining over the years
I’ve stayed at this hotel many times. The grounds are beautiful and the building is elegant. However, over the past 3 years, the attention to detail has gone down hill. Public bathrooms on the lobby level were a mess. While our hotel room was ok, the room and the rest of the hotel was just not as clean and attractive as it once was. The nightly rental was fairly expensive for this area of Connecticut. I expect more from Marriott.

Poor Room Choice
Although the hotel was beautiful, clean and everything I wanted for my husbands 60th birthday celebration I had a bad experiance. The Spa services excellent. Excellent restaurants also. I booked ahead and received the room I wanted. non-smoking with king bed. The problem was the room was next to the elevator and ice machine/vending area. I was not able to sleep at all because of the noise!!The ice machine was extremely noisy and was used all night. The noise from people getting off the elevator at all hours of the night was pretty bad. I don’t know why they even book that room!! It was a very HIGH END hotel, and something I booked because of the occasion. In all my traveling in many years I have never had such a bad experiance. The front desk staff didn’t seem to care much. I plan to send them a letter also. Just make to check carefully where your room is when you check in!!

Great find minutes away from Mystic, CT.
When we couldn’t find any of our choices available in Mystic we tried the Marriott in Groton loved the hotel. Rooms were clean and comfortable, restaurant/bar food and drink quality was exceptional as well as the Spa. The only disappointment was the pool which was overused. The water was cloudy and it had a less than appealing smell of clorine and mildew but all in all, a great place to stay!
