Small room
The room was barely 5 feet wide and about 12 feet long. A jail cell would be larger.

Beautiful hotel!
Nice location within easy walk to center city. Stunning first floor common room - great place to relax. Rooms are fine. Staff was helpful. We didnt try their food, but they have a pub, so pints, etc. are available on-site or there are several pubs nearby. The York minster was clearly the highlight, but there is so much more in York than just the minster.

Dark, dingy, & dirty!
There is a reason they require payment in full IN ADVANCE where most others require only a deposit--nobody would stay there after they saw the inside! Their claim that it "retains much of its original charm and character" translates as " we havent done a thing to it in centuries!" Also, when I inquired about where exactly were the "shops, pubs, tea rooms, and restaurants" they claimed the hotel was "situated amongst", they couldnt say--but did offer a restaurant guide and said they would call the cab for us. The dining room was bright and nice looking, but another party was complaining that for the $18 breakfast, they got Sanka for coffee! Fortunately we had already decided to go elsewhere for food. At half the price, it would not have been a bargain.
