Skip Belize

The Radison Hotel is very nice and well located. Their tours very expensive. They did try to add a $6 charge to our bill to support a local school.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Skip Belize. Very hot, humid and dangerous. Unless you scuba dive or take an hour plus boat ride to lay on a beach there is not much to do in Belize. Many shops are closed except on days when a random cruise ship is docked off shore. My wife and I both had food poisining from meals at different restaurants.

Great place to stay

Radisson staff were friendly and extremely helpful in planning excursions. The room we got was not as expected(location)so they were happy to change our room and gave us an upgrade, free. The food in the restuarant and lounge was excellent. Thank expedia!!!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Stay on Ambergris Island part of your stay. You’re close to the reef. Belize City is close access to Mayan Ruins and Cave Tubing. The city itself isn’t so special. We were very close to a nice casino for those that like to gamble.

Restaurants at the Radisson Fort George, Belize City, Belize

Average.

Traveler's tip on dining

Don’t eat at the hotel restaurants. We ate at the Stone Grill and the chicken was not fully cooked. We also ate at Le Petit Bistro...their bakery/cafe...the coffee and cinnamon roll were good, but the order took FOREVER to complete. It seemed that more local workers were stopping by for their breakfast or to pick-up a lunch to go and they ordered after us and we served before us.

Great Stay

This is the best hotel in Belize. I was worried because it was not ranked as 4 star. However when I arrived, It was 4 star quality. All of the hotels restaurants were great. They were affordable and the only place we ate. For $200 USD we ate very well drink included. i can’t wait to go again.

Belize City

There is no reason to stay in Belize City. If you are content with staying within the confines of the hotel, this is your place. The food was fairly decent if a little overpriced compared to what we payed on the cayes.

Traveler's tip

If you fly back from someplace else and plan to stay here, fly to Belize City Municipal, it is closer.

Kitchen problems

There are not to many options in Belize city restaurant wise.We ate at the hotel restaurant in New Year’s eve and we were very disappointed. The menu is nice but the kitchen does not live up to it.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is an Indian restaurant in Belize City that is probably the best option right now.

Great Location

Hotel was nice, probably the best for Belize and the location was great. Can’t use your skype because the phone service blocks it there so that you will have to use "their" service. That cost me a fortune upon check out. Keep that in mind if you need to call home every day.

Very Nice

Everyone was very nice and helpful. The restaurants were very nice, good service and food. We did have one complant. The mini bar was never replenished. We were under the impression that a inventory was made before we arrived and it would be replenished each day. We questioned it at the front desk but will no response.

Nightmare - Well, I would have had one if I slept.

Air Conditioner was not working properly. It was stuck on 61 degrees and I froze all night. Water actually leaked from the ceiling on to my bed making matters worse. My sheets were soaked. I have never been so cold in my life. I went down to the front desk to see if we could change rooms and no one was there. I waited and waited and no one ever showed up. I have no idea where they went. There was black hair everywhere in the bathroom and stains on the sheets which....in their defence could have been water stains from the ceiling. A tugboat roared his engine all night long right outside our window ensuring my sleepless night. Ordered a ham sandwich at the restaurant for a bargain $13.00 and actually got Spam. I could not believe it. Breakfast the next morning was odd tasting eggs and the orange juice was unbelivably rotten. The orange juice actually stank to high heaven. How anyone could not have known the orange juice was bad is beyond me. Drug dealers roamed the alley and tried to harass us every chance they got. Ugh! What a night.

Traveler's tip

Stay at the Best Western. It is closer to the airport, looks cleaner and is safer.

Average Hotel

I found the hotel very average. However, there really aren’t nice places to stay in Belize in general.

Good Hotel

This hotel was nice and worth returning to on any future trips that require an overnight stay in Belize City. The restaurant food was mediocre.

Great place to stay!

This hotel has a great location on the water, and the tower rooms are lovely. We had nothing but excellent service for our stay.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Tourism Village is a very short walk away, but be aware that the shops are only open on days that cruise ships are in port.

Great place to stay

We originally booked a room in the Villa Building with a poolview, but since the pool was closed. We asked for a room in the Colonial building and we were given a free upgrade to the a 3rd floor tower room with a view of the ocean. The room was very nice and very clean. The entire staff was super...and the general manager was a delightful man. We would recommend this hotel to all our friends traveling to Belize City...in fact, we plan to go back to stay for a week next year!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Please be reminded that Tourism Village is open only on days that cruise ships are anchored in Belize. The days change depending on the season.

Best of the Worst

The Radisson St. George is the best that Belize City has to offer. It still falls short of what most people are used to. Belize City is a 4th world city. I would never go there except for business. The rest of the country is very beautiful though. Too bad the Belizean Gov’t. Doesn’t do something to restore the former capitol to it’s former self.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Spend the day at Bannister Island Resort. It’s a welcome relief from the city. P.S. I will be the new owner. That’s why I stay at the hotel.

Belize City

My wife and I decided to stay in Belize City to break up our travel a little from San Francisco. The Radisson hotel was great. The service and people were very helpfull. The breakfast was good with a great view. We did leave the hotel area to go for a little walk along the pier and coastline. Do not go far from the area on foot. We made it about 50 yards towards a little park and the land sharks started to approach us. We made a quick u turn and it was no big deal. On Friday nights a local night club plays music very late. Ask for a room towards the water and not the city.

Find another place to stay.

Food was terribly overpriced -- I paid $9.00 US for a quart of milk and meals were not good but were priced like a 5 star restaurant. Do not take a tour with others -- only 2 people are needed for a tour. We were packed into a mini van for a total of 8 passengers and 1 driver and had excrutiating paid in our backsides by the end of the long ride back to the hotel from Zunantunich.

Traveler's tip

Only 2 people are needed to a tour -- if you get into a tour with 6 others, your comfort may be compromised.

Nice weather makes a difference

The hotel accommodations were not impressive but the service was good and the relationships we developed with the locals were great. It’s a great place to stay if you like commuting to tourist destinations, like the keys, beaches and cave experiences. If you like easy access to tourist sites, go further south.

Work with a local tour guide, you will save money on all attractions!

Best Hotel in Belize City

Belize City has little to offer except it is a great central location to make day travel to a wide variety of other cities or cayes or just any day trip. Other travelers we met who were staying in Belize City tried to cancel their hotel room and move to Fort George Radisson.

Good choice in Beliez City!

Clean, well-maintained hotel. Enjoyed the outside bar and terrace overlooking the water. The tower rooms were very comfortable, with good views.

Sufficient, but nothing special... then again, not much in this city is.

This hotel is quite decent and a reasonably good place to stay in an otherwise unremarkable city. The hotel is hardly new anymore, but it’s not any more run down than most "lived in" hotels you find in the tropics. There’s also something nice about being at an established chain hotel. Our room was comfortable and reasonably clean. The grounds were quite nice. We ate at the Stone Grill on the pool deck one night, which was tasty, but nothing special. Breakfast in the cafe was ok as well, but again, nothing particularly special. Staff was friendly and accommodating. I would probably stay here again, but frankly there’s not much to see or do in Belize City, so it would probably just be a quick stay on my way to someplace else. :-)

Good place to start a trip in Belize

We started and ended at the Radisson for a 2 week trip to Belize. The hotel is about 30 mins from the airport, and within walking distance to the Belize museum, downtown area, and several other sites. The poolside bar is a good place to relax and have a meal (we had the seafood cooked on volcanic rock), and the staff is helpful. Many of the rooms have views of the Caribbean, and are comfortably furnished.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Cruise ships dock twice a week and flood the Tourist Zone. If you don’t like being surrounded by other tourists, you probably want to avoid the Tourist Zone when the ships come in. However, most of the vendor booths are only open when the ships are there, so it’s a bit of a double edged sword. Check out the Harbour View restuarant across the street - good food, good service, nice view, and live music on certain nights of the week.

Best in town.

Belize City is a little rough around the edges. The Fort George Hotel is an oasis and has enough ammenities, bars, restaurants, pools, etc. to keep one entertained. The staff is friendly but service is on the slow side.

Decent place to stay

I liked the location of this hotel - very close to some of the top-rated restaurants in the area (Smokey Mermaid, Harbor View), and far enough from downtown area so that it felt safe to walk around, but close enough to get to water taxi and downtown. Staff were generally very friendly and helpful - the person who handled our reservations for flights and day packages (Edmir) also helped us with dealing with our lost luggage from the airline. Our tour guide for one of those day packages (Israel) was very warm and knowledgeable. The major qualm I have with this hotel is the fact that there is no complimentary breakfast of any sort, for people staying in the villa rooms. I did not expect this from a top-rated luxury hotel, as I have stayed at moderate-priced hotels before that offered at least a little something. We were also quite surprised to find that the gift shop in the hotel was reasonably priced (as we spent a lot there, because of the lost luggage). There was one girl that worked at the gift shop that was very nice to us, but then there was also a different girl that had a little bit of an attitude. Overall, a good experience.

Terrible Location

The Hotel is in a bad section of town. You can’t walk off the property without being solicited by street beggers. The hotel management allows street vendors to operate right on the grounds and they will harrass you every time you walk by. The coffee shop needs to have class on making coffee. The facility is too far from the attractions. The hotel needs new carpet throughout. I’m not sure how they got a 3-1/2 star rating!!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

All the attractions are an hour away, if you are going to belize to see poverty and filth, you will be happy at the radisson.
