Excellent choice!

If "green" means "welcome," this this, San Francisco’s first green hotel is one of the most hospitable I’ve stayed in. The hotel is spotless; the staff courteous and extremely helpful, and the amenities first rate. The location is perfect for those travelling to San Francisco for business or personal purposes. It’s now a "must stay" hotel on my list.

Great value, especially for the location. Heavenly Bed-ish!

The bed was great with the feel of "heavenly beds". The blonde wood furniture was a litlte dated, but that was the only thing that I would have changed in the room. The hotel amenities are sparse but that wasn’t what I was there for, so it was a perfect for a nice room at a good value in a great location.

Pleasantly Surprised

I heard about this hotel from a colleague and was pleasantly surprised. Based on the surrounding neighborhood, this would not have been my first choice but now I would not hesitate recommending it to others.

The best of choices

This hotel is excellent. It was a lovely quiet and charming hotel. The room was large, nicely decorated, the bed was comfortable, everything was clean and pretty and the staff was lovely whenever we needed something. We were very happy with our choice, would strongly recommend this hotel and would stay here again if we go back to San Francisco. The hotel is placed in an excellent spot, two blocks away from downtown, half a block from a tram stop, you have a starbucks on the next block, lots of shops, a few nice restaurants, a laundromat which is useful if youve been travelling around for some time. The fitness room was a bit poor, but I didnt care that much since the hotel was excellent.

Roomier than the Orchard Garden

Room was comfortable, and fairly spacious for the price. Nice bed, good choice of pillows. Since we were up on the 4th floor, the street noise was not too bad. Drawbacks- bathroom, although large, has no tub. Shower is quite roomy, but the door didn’t open well- very stiff and the hinges sounded like they would break every time it was opened. When we arrived, the handle on the shower door was broken. We asked to have it fixed, and got quick response. Odd that they did not pay attention to the fact that it still made the cracking noise when they fixed it, though. Other than that, only other shortcoming was that there is only a small soapdish in the shower, so no place to put shampoo, etc, other than the floor! We liked the hotel overall, and would stay there again. Since they do supply newspapers daily, it would be nice to have a place to recycle them.

Prime Location in Downtown San Francisco

My wife and I were very pleased with the location of the Orchard in San Francisco. Union Square and China Town were both within easy walking distance of the hotel, and we found plenty of places in the area to eat and shop. As for the hotel itself, we were both pleased with the hotel and its amenities during our overnight stay. We were less pleased with the hotel’s parking arrangements (guests use public parking and the hotel does not valid parking). All in all, my wife and I were happy with our stay at the Orchard Hotel and are thinking of staying there again for Chinese New Year.

Walking around Union Square late at night is fun. Even at eleven o’clock the streets are full of people and several shops and restaurants are bustling with activity. It’s a great time to dash out for a quick stroll and a bite to eat.

Orchard Hotel is ANYTHING but Boutique or worth yoiur money

I have traveled all over the world for almost 30 years. Even in remote areas I’ve had better hotels. If you have ANY need for Internet service, forget this place. Their service discinnects you about every 2 minutes, sometimes comes right back and sometimes wait an hour. I told the desk clerk, her answers were A. use a cable and B. its the most complained about thing and we keep telling the GM but he doesn’t do anything. We arrived late, told desk for a 9:00AM wake up call. At 5:30AM they called! I came in at 3:30AM on check out day (I was in for biz and a big family wedding my last night) and asked for a 10:00AM wake-up. The bellman called at 8:00AM to tell me my car was here. I hadn’t ordered a car! Oops, wrong room room was the reply. Room service a VERY limited menu from restaurant is way overpriced even by SF standards. Room info says from 3:00PM to 10:00PM. I called at 3:00PM to order a late lunch had to argue with the person who insisted room service started at 5:00PM. He finally agreed to ask and came back and said, yes it was 3:00PM and I could order. Another day I put out clean up room sign at 9:00AM. When I returned at 3:00PM it still wasn’t made up. And it only gets worse, such as no in room movies, no HBO or other premium channels and more, but I’m running out of room. What tells it all about this hotel and its lack of conern is that the comment card requires the guest to put a stamp on it if you want to mail it. STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY!

Over the Top

If you are looking for a quiet, reasonable, very well kept hotel with the most courteous and helpful staff, the Orchard is the place! Parking is the only problem for any place in SF, so don’t bring a car. Cable car is a short walk from the hotel and it makes easy connections with BART buses to take you anywhere. We were so pleased with the Orchard. Its a find!

Great Hotel in Great Location

The hotel was clean, quiet and stylish. The rooms were very nicely decorated and the bathroom was large, clean and attractive. This hotel is a fantastic value for the money. My only negative is that the matresses were very soft.

I will go back, definitely!

Centered near Union square and Japantown, Orchard Hotel’s location is strategically placed! You could either go shopping or walk down to Japantown to have some delicious sushi! The overall room and service was beyond satisfactory. The only downside I can think of is that the price of the room does not include breakfast.. so we had to hunt for breakfast on our own! Overall it is a little pricey but it is totally worth it!

Wonderful Boutique Hotel in Heart of SF

I hesitate to gush too much, but this hotel is a little treasure. Just below Nob Hill it’s within easy strolling distance to the Embarcadero, Union Square, Market Street, South of Market and you can catch a cable car ride outside the lobby. There are enough little restaurants right on Bush Street that you wouldn’t be able to sample in a week. The staff is wonderful and attentive. As another reviewer mentioned the bathroom is huge. The bed is luxurious. I particularly like eating breakfast in the restaurant with the sounds of jazz and the cable car in the background.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

With free WiFi, close proximity to the financial district and easy access to all forms of transportation, this is a great place for business travellers.

Terrific Hotel Terrific Location

As a native SF, who now lives in MT, going back is always a joy. Finding a comfortable, reasonable and centrally located place to stay is not. Hotel Orchard is in a fantastic location (right across the street from Masa’s, one of my favorite restaurants) close to Union Sq and Nob Hill, the bed was comfortable, the room quiet, and the amenities lovely. People were helpful and even told us (though we already knew it) that the most reasonable parking was at the Stockton St. Garage. ($24) Parking charges were the only unpleasant thing about the hotel ($40-$50 a night) but we were able to find on the street parking. Only other minor comment: no views. But you can’t have everything for the price we paid. I would return again, no question. Alexis

Traveler's tip on dining

Masa’s, one of SF’s finest established restaurants is right across the street. Not for everyday, but for that extraordinary SF experience, it is not to be missed. Sears Fine Food is 1 1/2 blocks away for great breakfasts. Very old SF, very authentic in feel, and good food for a good price. Just very hard to get into as they don’t take reservations and are always busy. Sam’s, another SF institution, is also within short walking distance, as is the theater district.

I will stay at this hotel again and recommend it to my family & friends!

Wonderful hotel, off the beaten path but in close walking proximity to Union Square, Chinatown, etc. My daughter and I enjoyed our stay immensely. Very quiet, clean and friendly atmosphere. Would definitely look them up again for future SF trips!

Wonderful hotel in PERFECT location!

This hotel is comfortable, immaculate, great beds and high quality bed linens. The room was quite large compared to other similar hotels in the area. Free WiFi in the rooms which is RARE in mid town San Francisco. I loved the fact that the cable cars were right on the corner of the hotel which is fabulous is you have any trouble navigating all the big hills walking around city. Many restaurants available close by and the hotel restaurant was nice too, though kind of pricey. One negative was parking at the hotel...$40 per night. We didn’t rent a car so it didn’t matter to us. Skip the car rental and use the convenient public transportation.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Walk one block down to the Walgreens and buy a multiple day pass for the cable cars which saves a TON of money.

Very impressive hotel

The beds were fantastic. Comfortable quiet rooms and friendly staff. Great location near Union Square and Chinatown. The have a DVD library(free) and a DVD in each room. They also have a mini fridge and various items in there for a charge, but we didn’t buy anything. I would definitely stay here again for the right price.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Check out a Ruby Skye Dance Club about 2 blocks away.

Great location, great deal!

I was very pleased with my stay at The Orchard. I actually work for a competing hotel company and originally booked through them, but found a better deal online at this hotel and switched my reservations. I didn’t have high expectations for the price, but was pleasantly surprised by the size, cleanliness and comfort of the room, as well as by the convenient location to shopping and restaurants. I would recommend this hotel.

Great location, calm and comfortable

A short walk up from Union Square, directly by the Powell St cable car and nevertheless a reasonably quiet and very comfortable hotel. Much recommended.
