Luxury with First Class Service - Highly Recommended
If you are going to Marseille I highly recommend the Sofitel Vieux Port. The rooms are comfortable to the point of being luxurious, and are beautifully appointed. The bar gives excellent service with great bar snacks and the restaurant is top-class (albeit with prices to match). The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. This is supposed to be a four-star hotel. I would give it five and a half !

Expensive but worth it.
After 3 weeks of hotel to hotel, some great, some not so great, it was a relaxing cushy respite prior to the long trip home. Very nice location overlooking the Vieux Port.

An Exceptional Experience
The hotel is beautiful and the view is fantastic. I had a little trouble with the front desk clerk when I arrived (She booked me into a smoking room that hadn’t been cleaned yet!I was afraid I was going to have an experience like one of the other reviewers)But the front desk manager apologized and quickly remedied the stiuation with an upgraded room. All of the other staff were so attentive that I felt like I was the only guest. I highly recommend this place and if anything is out of order, ask for a correction, it was my experience that it was taken care of immediately; often to more than my satisfaction.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Ask the concierge to arrange a private boat tour of the harbor. Not cheap but worth it!
