Get What You Pay For-- a Not-Bad Room
This isnt a bad place by any stretch, and we knew what we were getting into when we booked-- a basic hotel room near to a Metro. Rooms of this quality closer to the Paris city center would have cost infinitely more, so my wife and I were reasonably satisfied-- after all, we came to Paris for the sights, not the hotel. The room was rather small, and was directly over the Metro line-- if you are not a sound sleeper as we are, ask for the second story or higher. We didnt have the breakfast option, but there were so many excellent places in the immediate area (plus an in-room kitchenette), we didnt mind. Easy access to the Metro, quiet location back from the street, and hands down, the firmest, most comfortable hotel bed Ive ever slept in were the highlights. Negatives included a far-flung location, small room, and limited English programming on the TV. Overall, its hard to argue with the price or the convenience and Id go back.
Traveler's tip on dining
Steel your courage and go to the St. Martin Canal for dinner sometime. There are 2 great restaurants close to each other: the Hotel Du Nord (which is one of the coolest bars in all of Paris), and La Marine, an excellent place whose food would easily cost twice as much if it was any closer to city center. Yes, the area is a tad gritty, but thats part of the charm-- just go.

Not for us
The hotel reception and gardens were lovely. Our room was a long way from reception - up and down steps and through two different lifts. Room old and tired - small double bed, uncomfortable with roll to middle syndrome. Ugly old and unusable kitchenette type arrangement but no way to make tea or coffee as nothing worked.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
If you must stay here, there were some nice restaurants within walking distance and the Metro was close by for exploring the city.
