not so great

- rude service - dirty and moldy walls in room and bathroom - yellow, ratty towels - very uncomfortable bed - buffet dinner was always disgusting; if you didn’t make a reservation far enough in advance for dinner you couldn’t eat at restaurant; ate at restaurant 1 out of 4 nights (which was good!) but ate out 2 nights so we didn’t have to eat the dog food they served in the buffet - didn’t make good mixed drinks -hot tub didn’t work - one of the restaurants closed the whole time - If you get a great deal, this may not be so bad. Just eat out for dinner and don’t expect to like your room.

Great price for the Hotel

My friend and I stayed here at Maya Wyndham in October and found the hotel to be perfect. The hotel itself is well maintained and clean and the drinks include top shelf liquor as well as the local brands. The entertainment was good, the hotel has a large European group of visitors and hence the staffs give information in at least 5 languages, which can get annoying and difficult to follow what is going on. The sister property The Azteca which is apparently a higher rated hotel than the Maya is not as nice as the Maya and I found this view to be shared by many of the guests who ate at the Azteca restaurants. There is a great little group of boutique style shops across the street which is quaint and stylish along with a Starbucks. The downside to this hotel is that the hotel is very much open plan to the air and hence many of the public areas are not air conditioned, this includes the main buffet restaurant. This could prove to be uncomfortable on some day’s and I imagine in the summer would make it unpleasant. In winter I’m sure its not a problem and the alacarte restaurants are air-conditioned except for the beach one which is open plan (but is cool as its close to the sea). Overall a great hotel and great price, I will be returning and the Expedia rep was great and helpful, oh and make sure to say you don’t want the free hotel gift when they call your room as they are trying to get you a day out looking at time shares!

The other reviews complained about not being able to get bookings in the ala carte restaurant’s, we did not find that to be the problem and that seems to be a problem found in high season and not low season. It seems to be that you just need to book early on your first day to get the times you want for your reservations!

great bang for your buck

This hotel offers something for everyone. Tons of activities and amazing shows at night. The restuarants were great. The staff was friendly and always helpful. I would recommend it to both families, couples and any size group looking for a fun getaway
