Very close to the ocean

Lovely place, stayed with my mom for two days during the week. The room was very nice and the beds were very very comfortable. Nice path along the ocean to take walks. Great stay overall.

Gas log fireplace heats the room. Neat! Staff is superb.

The Fog Catcher is located just across the road from the 2.5 mile long boardwalk along the ocean. It’s in easy walking distance of The Sea Chest, an excellent reasonably priced seafood restaurant. Their breakfast, which comes with the room, is among the best such that I’ve ever seen. Even includes "make your own" - not toast freezer ones - waffles. Only downside, which applies to all of Cambria, is no cell phone service. You can get it by walking about .5 mile north on the boardwalk. Bed, furnishings, etc were fine. Small refrigerator is usable (empty). Complimentary newspaper, good cookies.

The town has many delightful craft kinds of shops. Also several good places to eat. It’s maybe a 15" drive south of Hearst Castle, which is definitely worth seeing. Kayacks can be rented at the beach across from Hearst Castle and there’s enough shore for folks who like to look for shells, etc. Harbor seals hang out on the beach a few miles above town, sometimes elephant seals.

Cute hotel, great sunsets

Stayed at the Fogcatcher for only one night to break up the drive from San Francisco to LA. What a lovely inn! Designed like English Cottages, the property is very quaint and you’re greeted with cookies upon check-in. Staff was kind and helpful, non-intrusive which was great. Room was identical to that of a holiday inn express, except the decor was cuter and added a personal touch like you were staying in a B&B. My room had two doubles and a fireplace - comfortable enough. There is good closet space and a coffee/microwave in room. The downside to the room was the bathroom. Seems like they didn’t bother to update it or renovate it when they did the rooms. It felt very out of place, they definitely should consider updating it to feel more cozy and less like a bathroom in school. The location of the inn is perfect for strolling along the beach which is directly across the street on the main road. Lovely for sunsets. The inn serves a continental breakfast in their cozy dining room. It’s okay if you’re eating pastries, yogurt, or toast. But their eggs & sausage have a lot to be desired so be cautious of that. Overall, really nice place to stay for a few nights. Comfortable enough and cozy.

Traveler's tip on dining

There are two restaurants that are within walking distance. I went to the Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill and the food was excellent. Coming from NYC, I have very low expectations of food because we have the best of everything here, but this place really impressed me. Great wine selection too. Would definitely recommend and it’s a really short walk from the inn so you don’t need to jump in your car to grab a bite to eat.
