Renaissance Charleston Hotel - good deal

We thought that the location of this hotel was excellent. it really is a stones through from the shops, museums and other attractions. It looked fabulous from the outside and the rooms were even nicer. Very comfortable and the restaurant food was tasty although a little overpriced for what you get. The only real disappointment was the parking. You have a car-park but you have to pay and it’s across the road.

Fantastic hotel, in great location!!!!

This hotel is a true 4 star hotel. The bellhop, receptionist, concierge, and entire staff were helpful. The room was very comfortable and large.

Traveler's tip on shopping

This hotel is located 1 which has /2 block from King Street many shops and places to eat. It is a short 5 minute walk to Market St. Poogan’s Porch is an excellent restaurant in a renovated home. Try the ice cream next door to Hyman’s Seafood.

Great location - near everything we wanted to do!

Location was fantastic; walking distance to everything you might want to do in Charleston. The rooms were very nice, and staff was always courteous and helpful. Not much of a pool, so if you’re looking for a nice pool to sit by, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

We loved the cooking class at "Charleston Cooks!" - just like being in the audience at a TV cooking show. Evening ghost tour was also alot of fun (we took the one that leaves from the Holiday Inn - the tour guide was a fantastic storyteller)

Great Location

The hotel is located perfectly between the shopping on King Street and the restaurants on Meeting Street. It is an easy walk to the Ft. Sumpter Ferry and the aquarium. The hotel staff members were very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant staff, not quite so much. The restaurant service was slow and they did not adequately staff the coffee bar. The rooftop pool was very pleasant in the late afternoons after hoofing it around town all day. Overall, this is a great place to stay when visiting Charleston.

Traveler's tip on dining

Jestine’s Kitchen, about two blocks from the hotel, has the best low country food we had while visiting the South. You can’t beat their hospitality!

Excellent experience!

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful. Also, the bartender, makes an excellent mojito (surprisingly the best I’ve ever had). I can’t wait to pick up and travel to Charleston again where I’ll definitely be staying at the Renaissance Charleston Hotel again!!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

If you like jazz, you must go to the Charleston Grill and listen to Quinton. He is excellent.

Very dissapointed

Our room was located next to the hotel meeting room. Every morning at 6:30 a.m. we would be awakened be the staff setting up the breakfast in the hall. Shortly after the group that was meeting there would arrive and it was as if a party had started next door to us and in the hallway. On Saturday we complained to the manager and he assured us that Sunday this would not happen. Once again like clock work at 6:30 a.m. we were awakened by the loud noises coming from the hallway. Once again the same scenario of the last 2 days was repeated. A meeting was taking place early that morning and breakfast was being setup in the hallway at 6:30 a.m. This happened at the Charleston Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina.

Beautiful hotel, excellent service

The hotel was beautiful, the service excellent. Everyone was very friendly. We had never been to the city so we needed help finding things to do. Everyone was very helpful. The room was nice and the bed extremely comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and would love to go back.

Not impresssed

For the amount of money, to stay at this hotel, I would have expected better "service". One day, our room wasn’t cleaned until after 4 pm, and that was because I went down to the front desk, and complained. Both my husband and myself noticed the front desk staff to be less than friendly, and when I did mention, at check out, the housekeeping problem, all I received was a perfunctory apology. One bright note: the concierge, as well as the head bartender, were very helpful/cordial. Once again, though, the server staff in the bar, as well as at breakfast were less than what I would have expected for this type of hotel.

Friendly staff and great location

Stayed recently (Oct07) for a long weekend. The staff was very freindly and helpful. The concierge - Travis - was exceptional. He made last miniute reservations (his recommendation) for my wife and I at Hanks - short walk away - and we had an exceptional dinner experience. Food at the hotel was very good - try the lemon souffle pancakes for breakfast. I would definetly stay here again.

Traveler's tip on dining

Seafood lovers should not overlook Hanks - excellent local seafood at resonable prices - 4 courses @ $100 for two (including wine)

Enjoyable stay

The service was great; we left 2 hats in the lounge and they were returned to our room about 5 minutes later. We also left clothes in the closet when we checked out (I know, I know); staff retrieved them for us quickly and cheerfully. Lobby and rooms are beautiful, on-site restaurant and bar were efficient and food was great. Room was somewhat small. Beds had wonderful linens. Charleston is a great place to visit, even in August!

Our 8 & 10 yr-old boys enjoyed the boat tour to Fort Sumter, a Riverdogs (Class A Baseball) game, the haunted jail tour, a carriage ride, even shopping on King St. A family-friendly city, no doubt.

nice hotel for the price

Hotel was within easy walking distance of King street shopping, East Bay restuarants, city market and other historic spots. Large comfortable rooms. The only complaint was the poor service in the bar area.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

McCrady’s is very over priced; the jail tour was fun and interesting.

A gem in the heart of the city

The location was perfect. Shopping and restaurants close by but not right off Market Street which is the main shopping and tourist area.

Won’t be back

We have stayed in alot of 4/5 Star Hotels across the country, this would not be classified as a 4 Star Hotel to us. There wasn’t any water in the vending machines...we ordered from room service a particular bottle of wine, 5 minutes later they called said they didn’t have that bottle of wine and suggested another...on another day a lady ordered a particular bottle of champaigne off the wine list and they didn’t have it.... service at the bar was poor. On one day our room wasn’t cleaned ’till 5PM...However the staff was friendly.
