under renovation

The first room they tried to put us in was at the back, dark, with no view. They switched us to one of the rooms on the side, and we had a sliding door, but no screen. They are in the process of renovating this hotel, so some rooms are finished and others are in process.

very fair for the price

An OK place...nothing fancy but priced accordingly. Roach problem as in many places on the islands. Need more control in that area

second time, no charm

Due to its prime location, I tried it again, upgrading to superior. In hindsight, I preferred the prior space. By upgrading, it only meant that the room was larger, revealing more crud. I spent a lot of my stay shopping for another hotel for a future visit. I heard that King’s Alley Hotel may be the best in that locale, although without a restaurant, pool, and other amenities.

Was great

This was our second time to stay there. It was great. The location is perfect. The staff very helpful. The view from our room was spectacular.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The central location in town is easy access to restaurants and shopping. If you want to be a part of the night life you are there.

Basic Accomodation, Best Location

The Caravelle is an older hotel located right on the Christiansted waterfront boardwalk. While our room could hardly be called deluxe, the view of the harbor was fantastic and the staff was helpful. An in-room refrigerator and secure off-street parking for our rental car were also great to have. The best thing about the Caravelle though is the location. Right downstairs is the RumRunner restaurant, and numerous other eateries are close by. A short walk along the boardwalk takes you to Fort Christiansted, or to the seaplane shuttle, and the SCUBA shop boat and Buck Island tour boats dock right out front. You are also in the heart of the nightlife (such as it is) of Christiansted. The Caravelle was just about seedy-to-our-tastes. It’s not a place to spend a lot of time or expect to be overly pampered, but a great base of operations.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Driving on the left takes some concentration at first, but isn’t as nerve-wracking as you’d think. St.Croix drivers are courteous to a fault, and will stop to let you enter traffic from a side street. This means they are likely to stop in front of you without warning to let someone else in, so pay attention. Best to drive with an alert co-pilot / navigator

Better than expected

The hotel wasn’t fully booked & we got a free upgrade to the room & the view was great! The staff was very friendly & the food was good. The hotel is walking distance to the sea plane. Great location - right on the boardwalk.

The Caribbean without the Resort

Think Motel 6, but five feet from the Caribbean.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Christiansted’s a fine town. St Croix hasn’t had much of a tourist industry for the past five years so it’s, ah, authentic. If you stay here, you’ll only be able to get to one beach (on Protestant Cay) without a car. The city, about 3,000 is in disrepair, but there are enough restaurants and sites to keep you occupied for about two days. Fredericksted is all mostly closed up with the exception of two restaurants, but the beaches on the west side are sublime.

The place to be in Christiansted

If you are searching for a comfortable place for a reasonable price you are right at hotel Caravelle. Arriving at the reception there where no questions asked, just a little form to sign and you get the keys right away without long waiting times or complicated check-in procedures. The room is okay for the price you pay. Everything is clean but obviously not the newest. Still it offers you everything you can ask for (AC, TV and a Kingsize bed). However the best thing about the Caravelle is mostly the location. It’s in the center of Christiansted, right next to the water whith everything close to you (Grocery stores, shops, bars, restaurants). Enjoy your stay!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

The hotel Caravelle is located in the best part of Christiansted. it offers you a number of bars and restaurants just some footsteps away. Although it is pretty close to the happening of the nightlife it is not disturbingly loud at all. Just explore evrything that nightlife offers in St. Croix in a 2 minute walk. There is the Brew Pub which is fun to go, whether to eat or to dance later in the night. Perroquet;’s is also a nice place with livemusic from time to time.

A Gem of a Hotel

Overlooking a marina and near restaurants, shopping and government buildings, the Hotel Caravelle is a gem of a property. The hotel is small and laid back and the staff is friendly. The rooms are nice sized with comfy beds, small refrigerators and microwave ovens. No coffee makers, unfortunately. The hotel also offers free WiFi Internet access, a nice plus. Nearby restaurants sometimes feature live music performances, so it may get too noisy at night for early-to-bed crowd. That aside, I have to note how great the hotel service was. I forgot a folio with containing important papers in the cab on my way to the airport and didn’t realize it until I was ready to board the plane to leave. Got in contact with the hotel before departure. By the time I reached the states, the hotel staff had tracked down the folio and was preparing to overnight it to me. Needless to say, I’ll be staying at the Hotel Caravelle on my next trip to St. Croix.

Good value

If you’re looking for a nice, cheap place to stay, this is it. It’s old, but it’s quaint. Refrigerators and safes in every room are a nice convenience. The restaurant, RumRunner’s, is one of the best in Christiansted.

Loud Rattling A/C and Rock Hard Pillows

On the positive side, the open air restaurant by the water was very pleasant and the location by the water in Christiansted is excellent. However, there is no elevator or in-room coffee maker. The A/C rattled and was so noisy it had to be turned off in order to sleep. Could have used the ceiling fan, but it would not work. Sleeping was uncomfortable because of the rock hard pillows. The front desk’s standard reponse to any request for help was "maybe something can be done in a couple days or so." All of this was in "superior" room which charged a higher rate.

Great value for the price

I really thought the Hotel Caravelle was a great deal. They gave me an unexpected upgrade to a deluxe room and it was quite comfortable and had a fantastic view. It’s not a fancy place, but the location is primo and it’s a great deal for what I paid at $100/night.

Good location

My fiance and I wanted a central location on St. Croix because we were looking at many resorts as possible wedding locations, so Hotel Caravelle was the right place for us. It’s right downtown and on the water, but I didn’t even realize it until we got there... there’s no beach on that part of the island! Not their fault though. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Good for travelers on a budget.

Centrally located-no beach

Right on the boardwalk close to shopping and nightlife but no beach on premises. Rumrunners has great food, mostly friendly service. Do not expect luxury though. Very basic accomodations.

Just okay......

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is right in town, you can walk to everything, but you do get some street noise at night. The hotel is ok if you just need a place to sleep.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The more expensive hotels are very nice, but if you are out most of the day and only need a place to sleep, then this is okay. All beaches are public on St. Croix, so you can go to the more expensive hotels and use the beach. Located right in town makes it easy to shop and eat. There are plenty of sites to see in walking distance.

Very relaxed

The hotel itself is very clean and run efficiently, the hotel staff were very courteous and helpful. I would recomend Hotel Caravel to anyone looking to travel to St.Croix.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Adequate for a short stay.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting St. Croix. It is right in the heart of town within walking distance to everything. The view of the harbor is spectacular. I would go back again.

Convient and close to the goodies

Nicest folks I’ve met in years! Hotel staff went out of their way to make my Trip a great one. I stayed in room 208 to start Hot water heater blew up they moved me to the penthouse and then to room 213 great room with view and nicely set up. There were very good with all my request. hotel is old and worn not a 5 star but the people are! RumRunners has some of the best food on the island. For breakfast a short walk takes you to Shananagins with good food and service!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask the hired help where they would eat and shop!! I saved hundreds of dollars eating like a local and shopping where they do. Must have a rental car to get out and about see the east end and drive around its an Island hard to get lost! I even got a police esscort to Cane bay when he found me lost and confused. Outstanding and when you here someone go beep beep there letting you into traffic if you screw up they will lean on the horn.

Great location

The hotel is conveniently located on the boardwalk and close to the main attractions. The Rum Runner Restaurant located therein serves a hearty breakfast and dinner (I was never there for lunch). The receptionist was very friendly, professional and welcoming, but the rooms look tired and are in dire need of refurbishing. Pool was very clean. Overall it was OK.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

My 9 year old son and I did the underwater snorkelling trail with the crew of the Big Beard (Renegade catamaran)to Buck Island. The water quality was great, the crew was very friendly and the beaches were awsome. It has been one of the nicest trips we’ve made to the USVI.

OK when you just need a place to sleep

The water pressure in the shower was always low. But the hotel has the best bar & restaurant on the strip

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Best bar on the broadwalk
