Best Hotel in Downtown Madison

Hotel staff ran an efficient operation on a very busy weekend with a Badger home game and Ironman Wisconsin using the hotel as its Host Hotel. The property is well located, the newest hotel in town, and run professionally like most business hotels in major cities.

Comfortable and central

The Hilton Monona Terrace is a standard, clean, comfortable business hotel. Try and request a lake view room if you can - great views south over Lake Monona. The best thing about this hotel is location, though. You can walk to State Street in only a few minutes and there are a number of great restaurants even closer.

Traveler's tip on dining

Marigold Kitchen, just a couple blocks away, has fantastic and reasonably-priced breakfasts. Don’t fall for the hotel buffet!

I would use this hotel again..

Overall this hotel was very good. I really didn’t stay there that long to judge.

Poor security - even worse response

During our stay, an intruder attempted to enter our room at 3 or 4 in the morning, not using a plastic passcard, but with a physical key. That is the key that hotel staff use when there is a power outage or some other abnormal event. He would have been successful, but we had flipped on the extra door chain. The hotel had no record of an attempted room entry and could think of no reason why hotel staff should need to enter our room in the middle of the night. Even more importantly, they were not particularly concerned that it happened and didn’t have any way to find out who was using the key. "It could have been a drunk guest" was the depth of their commentary. It’s unlikely that a "drunk guest" would have this key. Hilton staff should do much better than this.

Will stay again!

I would reccomend this hotel. I would suggest that you call ahead and make sure that they have your reservation in their system. We have stayed here numerous times and we have had problems with check in and so have other people in line. The view is outstanding and so is the location!!

Affordable luxury in Madison

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Hilton Monona Terrace. The room was clean, the bed (with down pillows) was very comfortable. The food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. It is also very conveniently located. If we’re ever in Madison again, this is where we’ll stay.

No hot water

With jetlag, travel exhaustrion, a 5:30AM meeting, waking up to a shower without hot water was a rude awakening indeed. I’ve stayed at nicer hotels in the area for more reasonable prices....and they have hot water in the morning!

Overall a great hotel

This is a very beautiful hotel with a super friendly staff and a great location. The beds are very comfortable and the views can not be beat. The drink prices in the bar were a little steep however-and the thermostat in the room wasn’t working quite well, but other than that, no complaints!

Only Quibble

Hotels generally keep the heat too high in the winter and too low in the summer. Chilly outside though it may have been in winter, it should have been cooler at sleep time.

Perfect for the Business Woman

The hotel was clean and a scale above for the price with designer shampoos & soaps. The room service food was good, although breakfast was a little slow. It was cold and snowy while I was there and the hotel shuttle took me to my business appointment vs. waiting on a cab. Very friendly staff. I will definitely recommend this hotel and stay there again!

Need a firmer mattress

The hotel looks nice post-renovations. There is a free shuttle to get to/from State Street and with a bit of planning it is usually available. My only issues, and it is a biggie, was my mattress was way too soft so I didn’t sleep well. Other than that it was clean, comfortable and the breakfast (available until 11:00) was pretty good.

WOW what comfort

The bed in this room was the most comfortable bed ever!! we felt like we were kings & queens with the room & service!

Great Hotel

The hotel was in a wonderful location - close to restaurants, Badger stadium, University, Capital. It was located on Lake Monona and had a great view. Also, the bedding was first class.

Very comfortable

This was a very comfortable hotel with great service. It was nice and quiet even though the weekend was busy and I know it was full or nearly full. The one drawback to this hotel is limited parking on site but public parking was available within a city block so it wasn’t a problem for me. I had a great stay here!

Magnificient Easter brunch.

We had a family reunion over Easter with our college-aged children. The brunch was an extravaganza of shrimp, prime rib, chocolate dipped fruit, Wisconsin cheeses, salads, omelettes, and on and on. It was beautifully displayed among ice sculptures and tropical flowers. The service was top-notch. Our room was elegant and comfortable with a great view over the lake.

Awesome get a corner room with a view of the lake and capital. Watch the phone in the hotel. Expensive to dial out.

Beautiful Lake View

We really enjoyed our stay in the hotel. The window of our room faced the Monona Lake, which was very pretty even in a rainy day.

Very impressive Hotel

The service and accomodations were first rate! The proximity to the capital ond nightlife made this ’the place’ to stay. If you are looking for a great meal, the Capital Chophouse within the Hilton was excellent, the food and the service. I highly recommend it.
