Would definitely go back

We first came here in May 2004. We liked the clean room and pleasant staff, but what we enjoyed most was how the property was set up. Most rooms seem to have a pond, a gazebo, woods, and even hiking trails right outside your door. It gives the Golden Eagle Resort a cozier, more intimate vibe. We came back in October 2009 to find it was just as comfortable and relaxing as we remembered it. We’ll be back again!

Decent, middle-of-the-road, accommodation

Got back from long weekend in Stowe two weeks ago. Great trip. Will definitely be going back to Stowe. The room was very comfortable with above average mattress/bed and spacious bathroom. Free wifi nice. Very average hotel restaurant which I would avoid when there are so many good alternatives in town. Staff very friendly and beautiful trail around the resort which gave us a further opportunity to experience the best of the foliage. Free coffee and cookies in the main lodge in the late afternoon was a nice added touch. Hot tub in the spa/gym area was also nice. Would recommend.

Traveler's tip on dining

Green Mountain Inn - superb for brunch and dinner. Very good Bloody Mary too.

Another pleasant stay at Golden Eagle

Room was dated but comfy and cozy.Loved nature trails. The only downside was unusable coffee maker(filthy)

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Local breweries around Stowe and Burlington. Mt. Mansfield is a must: ride gondola and walk to the summit. Don’t drive up!!

Great place for kids and beautiful surroundings

The hotel and all its facilities were wonderful. We wish we could have stayed longer, specially because of our children, aged 3 and 5, who loved the kiddy’s park and pools. The only small caveat were the beds of our room as we found them a bit too soft.

Good Value, Many Amenities and Friendly Service

The Golden Eagle Resort in Stowe has a lot to offer the leisure traveler. Location is just a few minutes from the center of town; the main reception building offers comfortable couches for reading, a fireplace, games and complimentary cookies in the afternoon; and there are numerous amenities from a fitness center to an indoor pool/jacuzzi to a sauna to tennis courts. The hotel sits on 80 acres with trails for hiking in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter. We loved the hotel’s Colonial Cafe which serves a fabulous Vermont breakfast featuring local ingredients. Resort personnel are extremely warm and friendly. Motel-style rooms are clean but not at all fancy, and wireless Internet service is spotty at best, but we definitely would stay here again.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Make sure to travel outside of town down Route 100 to the Waterbury area where you will find several places to buy wonderful local food items. The Old Hollow Cider Mill has delicious homemade apple cider and cider donuts. There are Cabot Dairy and Lake Champlain Chocolate outlet stores nearby. A Ben and Jerry’s factory offers fun and inexpensive tours and free ice-cream samples.

LET IT SNOW.

I visted Thanksgiving Day, Nice and quiet, most places were closed. I did managed to walk to a little place selling bagels. Nice quick food for munchies. Althouhg they closed like 2pm that holiday. Nice mountains and it even snow while I was there. Lovely cooked to order breakfast. I recieved my pancakes Bacons, etc rather quickly. Friendly front desk employees. I used Peg’s Pick-up. I did not rent a car. Clean room. Everything worked inside my room, I’m black and traveled alone. Very friendly people.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try the local dinning places. Alot within Walking distance.

Moderately priced during leaf peeping season

One of the things I liked most about this place is the hiking trails and how much spread out the "resort" was. The relatively large room was quiet and comfy although there were a few things that were a little dated including the bathroom. The back door opened to a patio with two chairs and a wildlife area. It was a good place to rest while being busy on the road. Close to Stowe town area. Good teas and coffee in the main lobby.

Convenient, Comfy Comfortable Motel

Tempted by the late season special Expedia pricing, we booked 5 nights at the very end of Aug 2008. For what we spent, it was great! Our room was in the Upper Alpine Wing and was what’s called a "superior king" room. The room was big enough for us and included an indoor sitting area plus back door to a mowed clearing with lounge chairs and access to some short (25 minute) but sweet walking trails thru the woods. Unlike another review, we found the bed quality to be great: it was a pillow top style, so soft feel but plenty of support for our 50+ backs! The Breakfast "hall" on sight was a bit pricey but so convenient that we went back every day. For faster service, go before 9am. We were delighted that from here it was really a quick walk down hill to town via either a sidewalk on mountain road or the nearby Stow Rec Path. You need to drive to access the bigger hiking trails but so do most locations in Stowe. If you are there on a Monday night the Manager’s wine and cheese reception is a simple gathering but fun! A quick 5 minute drive further up Mountain Road from GE, is an excellent deli (Harvest Market)that has healthy, gourmet-style, reasonably priced options for meals to take hiking with you, etc. I would consider this more of a spacious motel complex than a resort but if you want a mid-priced, clean, comfy, convenient, quiet location - I’d stay here

Traveler's tip on dining

Favorite spots for adults: Stowe Coffee Shop downtown- great service and menu. Also the Lounge at Trapp Family lodge for a 5 star dinner for a great deal(note a limited menu but superb food) For Familes: Pie In the Sky pizza, walking distance form Golden Eagle.

A Place to Return To

This resort has both indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, playground, walking trails, and hiking trails. There is a selection of accommodations from two bed rooms to a three bedroom house. All the facilities appeared clean. The breakfast room is clean and affordable.

The rooms are dated. Need to be updated to the 21st century!

The rooms were dated and needed some improvement. Upon initial arrival, room smelled like grandma’s house! The buildings could use a paint job. The grounds were well maintained. Lovely landscape. The gameroom was small and the kids had to pay to play most games! Three pools advertised, but only 2 were openned for use. Food okey at restaurant, but no complimentary continental breakfast? Only one computer in lobby for use. Had to return several times because it was being used all the time. The stay was overall slightly bit disappointing.

Totally love the place

we have stayed at the Golden Eagle many times but always during ski season. What a treat to see the grounds in the summer. The pool was awesome and as always breakfast in the Cafe was perfect. They are always friendly and professional. We highly recommend it any time of year.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Take advantage of the awesome hiking/snowshoeing trails around the property. Also check out the Mr. Pickwick’s Pub around the corner withing walking distance, great ambiance and food.

Visit July 2008

Very courteous and helpful staff. Beautiful property located right in the heart of downtown Stowe with walking access to the restuarents. There was a little musty odor from the carpets but the rooms were otherwise clean. I would go there again because of the wonderful location.

Recommended

Excellent location, pleasant rooms, friendly staff, nice perks such as free individually-brewed coffee in the lobby all day long. Very nice pool with a propper locker room and decent towels. Modest weight room, game room with ping pong, well-maintained common areas. Great for families . Extensive trail system. Beds a bit soft, some bathroom fixtures in disrepair, but overall a nice place to stay, particularly off season.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The Stowe recreational path, a beautifully-maintained 5.5-mile paved trail following a river, is absolutely superb. Easily accessed from the resort.

Cheap, but you can find better quality for the same price

The hotel has a major problem, to get from the lobby to the room to the break fast area to the pool area, you have to be outside and in some cases take the car. Now, this is ok during the Summer, but during the Winter it becomes a real problem. Imagine going for a swim and then gong back to your room when the temperature is 30... One of the things we were looking forward to was the indoor pool which we never used because of this. Rooms are ok. The breakfast is good. Near the centre, and a few restaurants walking distance.

If you have children think twice if you go in the Winter. Ours got a cold.

Very good deal in Stowe, VT!

Very clean, very well equiped hotel for this price. Check-in was very friendly and we were allowed to use the showers after checkout when we returned from skiing before hitting the road.

Nice Place to Stay

The hotel was good. The room was clean, we had no complaints. The hotel is in a great spot very close to a lot of good restaurants and bars which is the main selling point for this hotel. Our room was near the hotel lobby so we had a lot of traffic coming by our room which wasn’t ideal. I would ask to be placed away from the lobby on our next trip. There are some great snowshoeing trails behind this hotel and they have snowshoes available. Take advantage of them they are very private and its a good workout. Would stay again.

Traveler's tip

Get a room away from hotel lobby. Great location access to bars/restaurants.

Very comfortable, clean resort

Again, we enjoyed the comfort, cleanliness and convenience of the Golden Eagle Resort. Perhaps the best feature is the breakfast restaurant right on the grounds with great food and coffee. We’ll definitely stay there again when in the area skiing.
