Great Hotel for Rome

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Splendide Royal, the service was great and the free full breakfast from the sixth forth of the hotel was wonderful with a great view of Rome and the Vatican. We would definitely stay here again. The hotel location provided short walking distance to most major visitor sites, bring good walking shoes. ATM machines are close to the hotel, call your bank before your trip and tell them you are headed for Italy so they can provide access to your account while you are on vacation.

October was a great time, nice wheather and with less people

Wonderful hotel!!!

The hotel was wonderful, GREAT location, clean, beautiful, friendly and helpful staff who were always very cheerful (and fluent!!) about speaking English, since our Italian isn’t so great. The breakfast was very good and a great way to start the day of walking around beautiful Rome, which was easy to do from this hotel’s location. The room was lovely, bathroom was HUGE and clean. Only glitch for our stay was that the phone lines were down three of the five days we were there - which mattered to us because we didn’t get service on our mobiles in the room, so we couldn’t call our children back in the US to say goodnight. But, that was just a fluke - the staff was lovely and helpful, we had a terrific time!!! Also, we ate one night at Mirabelle - gorgeous view, delicious food and wine. Would stay there again in a hearbeat.

Wonderful Second Honeymoon !!

It was a wonderful hotel to stay at on our second honeymoon. My only bad comment - I wish it had an iron and a coffee pot in our room. Our tours were so early we could not have breakfast in the morning at the hotel. We did find a wonderful Bar a few blocks away from the hotel. For the convenience of the clients that stayed at the hotel...it would have been nice to even have coffee in the lounge area.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Day Trip: Take the train to Naples. Walk downstairs and take the Circumvensia Train $1.50 Euro to Sorrento. Have lunch, shop--then take the boat to Capri. Explore!! Then take to boat back to Naples - and the train back to Rome. Our best day trip!

Enjoyable Hotel

We enjoyed our five day stay. The hotel was small by US standards but that is to be expected. The staff was gracious and helpful. Our room was small but well appointed. The hotel’s Rooftop Restaurant commands a spectacular view but be prepared to pay an exceptional premium to enjoy a meal. The location of the hotel is removed from the general tourist area that we usually frequent. However, it is close to the Villa Borghese and the Museum and Galleria Borghese(absolutely worthwhile to visit - make reservations in advance). The area is upscale and the price of everything reflected this.

Traveler's tip on dining

At the upper end of the Via Veneto (around the entrance to the Borchese Park) there are many restaurants that are overpriced and the quality of the meals was not good. Look for restaurants off the Via Veneto. There are some fine ones.

Quality and Quiet by the Spanish Steps

Bear in mind that this is a boutique hotel for the rich and famous. Which we are not....we did book a discount rate and for that we got a first floor room with no view. Also included was a rock hard bed with linen bedsheets and pillow cases. However upon request a set of high quality 440 thread count sheets and a feather bed were provided. The staff was polite and efficient, the included breakfast was excellent and the rooftop dining room was fantastic. The hotel provided a very good personal tour guide (210 euro for 5 hours) that was well worth the money. I would have to say that if you want discrete quiet surroundings in the heart of the most posh district of Rome then this is a very good choice. Its right across the street from the Villa Borghese, one of the most beautiful city parks in the world and very close to the districts of "Le Dolce Vita".. Rome is not cheap but we felt that at this hotel we did get good value and had a fantastic time and felt like that for the 5 days we were there that we were back in the heyday of the 60’s when Roma was the Jet Set destination for the Glitterati....

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you want to go to the colosseum buy your tickets at the ticket booth for the Forum for all three attractions...you will bypass the 90 minute line at the colosseum.. Just down the Via Veneto is the Capuchin Crypt, a macabre display of 5 rooms of remains of the monks of the order of Capuchin....a grim reminder of our final state of composure...

Splendid stay at the Splendide

This hotel is the best - great location near the Villa Bourghese, Via Veneto, and the Spanish Steps. Friendly and welcoming staff, wonderful rooms (with great aircinditiong!)and in a safe area. This upscale hotel is a wonderful, quiet oasis in a great location of the city. The breakfast with views of the Borghese Gardens and distant Vatican was a great start to each day. After our four day stay we found it difficult to part with this wonderful hotel. Highly recommended.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The hotel is within walking distance of many of Rome’s sites.

Great Location

Don’t stay on the first floor if you want to enjoy the great views from this Hotel. The restaurant and bar (especially the terrace) had great views of Rome but food and drink prices were outragious.

Traveler's tip on dining

Hard to beat dining outdoors in the many cafes and restaurants in Rome during the summer months.

An adequate hotel

Our Borghese garden room was no more than a view of tree tops along the street.Missed an early start due to not getting a requested wake up call. They insisted they called, that it was automated. The next morning at 5 am I got a call, a day late. They inputted the wrong date. The staff here are very nice but also impersonal. We were there 5 nights. Near shopping, Borghese, and transportation. Next time in Rome I will look at a different hotel for the same money.

Fantastic

I surprised my wife with a trip to Florence and Rome. We spent 4 days at the Splendide Royal. It was a very comfortable, beautiful hotel. The breakfast was an excellent way to start our day. We enjoyed the cappuccino and the wide array of traditional breakfast items. The views from the top floor in the restaurant Mirabelle are amazing. I highly recommend going for a cocktail and taking the beautiful views in. What was exceptional was the concierge service.I had left my cellphone in Florence and they were most helpful to try and get it back. I never did, but they helped me get a new one. I definitely recommend this hotel for the location (near Spanish steps and the views).

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The hotel is located off Via Veneto. While they offer a beautiful Michelin star restaurant, there are a lot of dining options around the corner from the hotel for a fraction of the price. We found Via Veneto to be beautiful restaurants, with all of the finest designers and shops, but for more options walk a block away and you save some serious Euros.

ELEGANT, GREAT LOCATION

Beautiful hotel and minutes walk from everything. Very accommodating staff.

Traveler's tip on dining

Our favorite restaurant was Nino’s at the Spanish Steps. Also, Paris Cafe but don’t sit, your bill is doubled. Stand at counter and drink the best espresso and pastries.

not impressed

not impressed, poor service with an attitude, definately not worthy of five stars. outrageous prices for minimal service, elevator was broke most of the time, front desk was rude, location meant a lot of up and down hill walking

Beautiful, and it stood up to the wonderful recommendations!

Fantastic location, beautiful room with excellent comforts. The restaurant was so romantic and the food was spectacular. The staff went out of their way to acommodate our every wish. We could not have been happier with our stay in Rome.

Traveler's tip on shopping

We could go in any direction and find shopping immediately. We ventured from high end to trinkets and could find everything we needed in this area.

Impressed

It’s hard to get good service in Europe but this hotel delivered. great rooms, great location,(10 min walk to spanish steps), great service. I would definitely go back.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

At major tourist sited like the Vatican and Collessium, I recommend getting a guided or self guided tour. You pay a little more but you bypass the LOOONG lines and save lots of time and energy. Not to mention they are much more informative. Also most places are still cash only.

Will definitely stay in this hotel next time around

Hotel concierge and staff were very helpful when needed and respected guests privacy. Although selection in the breakfast buffet was the same everyday, the selection and quality were great. You can even have champagne, oh I mean bubbly sparkling wine for breakfast.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

A nice walk to most of local attractions. Hotel distance is perfect for travelers who love walking.

Oppulent

The property lives up to its name. The public spaces are gorgeous, the rooms spacious and sumptuous. If you are intimidated by your lousy Italian, don’t be. The helpful, efficient, and friendly staff speak excellent English and go out of their way to make you feel at ease. Breakfast on the roof makes awakening a joy. Feast on a view of Rome while encased in a cocoon filled with lemon trees and orchids. No detail is overlooked. You will feel utterly pampered.

Traveler's tip

Make your reservations early if you want to try Mirabelle restaurant. It may be the most romantic place in a city of romance.
