Needs a fresh coat of paint

This boutique hotel has a great location near Union Square. The service / staff were extremely friendly and professional. The room was decent sized and the bathroom was quite large. My only complaint is that the hotel could use some refurbishment: fresh carpet and paint - both in the common areas and the guest rooms. Looking a bit worn and dated.

Great Customer Service!

Great boutique hotel with good location. Staff is very friendly. Restaurant is good but on the pricey side. Would recommend for business trips or pleasure trips to SFO!

Great location

Stayed here for the Nike Woman’s marathon and it was super convenient to Union Square. Great for all sightseeing - walking distance to Chinatown, Fisherman’s wharf, shopping, ... Rooms are nice but old with some problems. However good overall and the wine tasting in the evening is nice before heading out for dinner. Our room faced Post St. which was noisy - would try for another room not facing the main street.

Walk a few blocks and the Cheesecake Factory at Union Square is a great place to eat. Breakfast a Lori’s diner is good too!

ok

Unfortunately the place is 30 years beyond its prime. We booked club level, where the only real advantage is free wifi. Breakfast and afternoon lounge is something really not worth the add-on, rather find something in the city. The room was tiny and a bit run down with broken wall socket, holes in the carpet and a view of the aircondition pipes. On the other hand the place is fairly clean and it must have been pretty once, maybe when it was new. Overall the worst value for money of the Kimpton hotels I stayed at and there are a bunch of better places to stay at in SF in this price range.

Not impressed

The hotel is in a great location - that is the best feature by far. The rooms are small, there is just enough room to walk around the bed to the bathroom. The windows are drafty and really do little to keep out street noise. You are better off staying at the Marriot across the street if you need to be in Union Square.

Cool, classy, and casual.

Enjoyed my visit. Hosted wine reception was fun and welcoming. Complimentary breakfast was fine its hard to compete with the breakfast options San Francisco has to offer. I like the casual classy aspect of the hotel.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Have a glass of champagne at the wine reception before heading out on you night on the town.

Great Location but...

I have stayed twice and both times felt the rooms are too small. Great location and nice staff though.

Nice hotel, but street noise was loud

The hotel was nice and we were very happy with our room. The complimentary wine "happy hour" was nice. The wine quality wasn’t great, but drinkable. Our room was on the 3rd floor and it faced Post St. The street noise was louder than I am used to and prevented me from getting a good night sleep. My stay was only for two nights, so I didn’t request another room towards the back of the hotel, but I would next time.

Great Hotel, Great Price, Great Location

Nice hotel, quite clean, and central to Union Square. This is almost the perfect place to stay if you want to stay near the shopping areas of downtown. This hotel also offers free wine nightly between certain hours, in the lounge. The room I stayed in had everything we needed, although the window view wasn’t spectacular. There is also a nice little breakfast/lunch restaurant very close nearby called Honey Honey which was great. The room wasn’t very large, but was clean and nice looking. I suggest it.

Great service, and more!

My boyfriend & I stayed at the Prescott for 5 nights in September. Throughout, the most amazing thing was the service: We had a minor problem with the cold water, and called down to the desk. It was fixed in literally 15 minutes. The concierge printed our return boarding passes for us in 2 min. with no charge (the Nikko 4 yrs ago wanted $12). Throughout, the staff was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. And more....The room was not huge but big enough. It was nicely appointed and cozy and clearly recently redecorated. The bathroom was lovely. All in all, an excellent hotel. Only two cautions: since this is a small & only 7-story hotel, there is no "view"--just the buildings across the street. I did miss that. Also, for the elderly or infirm--there is absolutely NOTHING to hold onto when in the shower, and the tub floor was a bit slippery. But other than that--A+++++!!!

Traveler's tip on dining

Have breakfast every day at Lori’s, around the corner on Mason. A fun place with good diner food. Also--the is an excellent, unheralded, reasonably priced Greek restaurant a couple of blocks away on O’Farrell called Santorini. We ate there last trip to SF and were pleased to find it still there and still excellent.

Convenient and quaint

Went thru Expedia and everything went smoothly. Needed an early check-in because of a wedding and the staff was most accommodating and genuinely warm. The lobby area is warm and nicely decorated with seating area for conversation. The room was perfect for our needs. Parking was the only draw back because it is through a separate company and was very expensive.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Not far off of Union Square and many restaurants. Easy to get a taxi any time.

Great value, great location...

The hotel was well located and comfortable. It’s small, but for the price, it was an excellent value. The rooms were very well kept, updated and serviced.

Traveler's tip

I recommend parking at one of the near-by garages...it’s cheaper and still easily accessible. Sears Restaurant was awesome and the line moves quite fast (if there is one).

Good hotel if you get a good deal

The star rating is a bit exaggerated. The rooms are a bit older. The wine and appetizer hour were a bit like a circus, a bit crowded. Still. the bartender was great. He always knew which drink you had previously ordered. In addition, the location is great and the staff was helpful. I would stay here again if I got a great deal.

Not impressed at all!!

I think this hotel is over rated. Yes, it is clean and the people who work there is great, but the rooms are very small and the hotel could use a lift. For the money you spend I think you could get a bit more basic things like a refrigerator and a small coffee pot in your room. They do have coffee down stairs, but you have to get up early to get it. Also, we had some kind of little flying bugs that always showed up in our bathroom no matter how many we killed. All you get here at this hotel is a place to sleep that is over priced. This hotel I would geuss is historic, but it needs to be updated. I really don’t know how they made the top 500 voted best hotels. Also, I think a lot of older people like 50 and up seems to like this hotel. I am in my early 40’s and I will not be staying here again. It is close to a lot of things. I can not stress enough on how small the rooms are, they are tight, and it was just me and my 10 yr. old. The rooms gives you a feeling like you are staying at a Bed and Breakfast.

Good value, good service

Location was perfect, just 1 1/2 blocks to Union Square. Good Indonesian restaurant nearby. Helpful concierge, smiling bellhops. Beds were comfortable. Our bath had small vanity area, but our friends’ was roomy. We asked for and got coffee makers in our rooms. Friends’ used cups were not replaced, and they forgot their coffee supplies. We were evacuated for 1/2 hr. at 2AM one night because of a fire(guest’s fault). We thought we should have gotten a treat or free coupon or something to make up for that. Free wine was not so great, but coffee nice and strong.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

We took the Hop On Hop Off Tour, good for 48 hrs, that took us across the Golden Gate Bridge and to Golden Gate Park and Alamo Square in addition to the downtown area. It’s a good way to see where you want to go back for a longer visit. Be sure to check out the famous In ’n Out Burger Restaurant at Fisherman’s Wharf. Cheap and delicious! An inexpensive but yummy Italian restaurant is Pasta Pomodoro in North Beach. Art gallery with mostly Chagall paintings on Union Square was a treat.

Not really impressed for the price

Pretty good hotel, well centered. However our room was not extremely clean, nor smelling very good. Breakfast room is really nice as well as other services that are really good.

We will go back.

This hotel is close to everything, Union Square, Pier 39, theater, restaurants, trolleys, BART, and shopping of any kind. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The location of this hotel is convenient for all the things you can do in SanFrancisco.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Walking distance to all the shopping.
