comfort of home, away from home.

Safe environment, Real friendly staff, cozy room. We found that the price for breakfast was a a little costly mainly the jamaican breakfast menu. water pressure in the rooms were at time very low, however hot water was dependable. For the extremely sunny hot days, you can count on the comfort cool relaxing chill in you air conditioned room. Besides the factors this would be my one and only stop at a hotel in portland jamaica.

Nice Hotel in the middle of a bad area.

The Jamaica Palace hotel is, itself, quite nice. Pretty, exotic (loved the live birds! and the Jamaica-shaped pool!), artsy. Perfect for a young couple who want nothing more than a room and each other’s company for a few days. However, located just east of Port Antonio, it is most suitable for a fugitive from the law. I explain: The ’roads’ of Port Antonio are so bad that no law enforcement officer would ever follow you there without a tank or a helicopter. If he did, he wouldn’t stay long. Port Antonio feels cramped and dirty. And ’nearby’ ’attractions’ are either destroyed, closed for half the week, or fallen into severe unprofessionalism. Two days of this sans new bride for company and the officer would be bored to tears. Norma’s at the Marina is a fine restaurant, and almost makes the whole experience worthwhile. Almost. But Port Antonio boasts no truly fine expanse of white sandy beach, no marvelous city, and the most awful stretch of Jamaican roads to get into it, out of it, or around it. Which, until they build up the area, is just as well.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Port Antonio boasts some nice waterfalls, but if you’re looking for beaches try Negril. If you’re looking for nightlife try Kingston. If you’re looking for a pleasurable mix, try Ocho Rios.
