Fabulous hotel
Stayed at the Birger Jarl in September 2009 and everything was fabulous. The room was beautiful and comfy, breakfast was vast and delicious, and the sauna was great. The super-duper friendly front desk staff helped in so many ways, and even went on the Internet to translate "Birger Jarl" when we asked what it meant. Stockholm is very walkable, and we walked everywhere from the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel
This hotel is very nice; excellent breakfast; clean and pleasant. A little far from old town and the center of the city, but close to the metro.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Use public transportation in Stockholm; especially the metro; get a Stockholm card if you will be there for a few days; it includes the metro and most museums.

Great value for a very good room
We jumped at the chance to stay at the Birger Jarl because we had seen good reviews everywhere and the rates were decent (especially since we were able to take advantage of a special offer). We were not disappointed. The hotel is very centrally located and we were happy to discover that the neighborhood was really quiet (likely due to the fact that the hotel is right next to the police station). The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated in a modern Scandinavian style (think IKEA): pleasant, but nothing that will make your heart jump. One note, however: if youre not used to hotel rooms in Europe, youll likely find the rooms to be fairly small. Theyre accommodating enough, but you wont find them roomy. Breakfast was wonderful and the staff was great.
