nice family style resort in escondido

just remember that this is a time share rental which means that there is no housekeeping service. good thing is that some units have washer and dryer so you can wash and get clean towels. but not all units have washer/dryer. rooms run large which is nice and resort is quiet. kitchens are always a bonus when travelling with kids! area is close to wild animal park and legoland but not that close to sea world and san diego proper and there are no restaurants that close by. However, if you drive a few exits, there are lots of standards.

Very Nice place

We had four adults & two children in our Villa. We loved the way the bedrooms were closed off on different sides of the villa. The few issues we had were calling up to the front desk & Guest services. We had to call about 4 times before they answered & left a message to get more towels with guest service.People below us complained at 11:45 am & said there were a lot of kids running in our Villa.Security came to our door we were VERY surprised! We had only one 1 year old boy who was awake at the time & he was NOT running around he was playing with his toys watching tv & wasn’t loud because our son was still asleep. My friend told the security officer to come in and see where his son was playing and he noticed there was no problem but he said well maybe you should take the boy to the pool so the people won’t complain!!We couldn’t believe he suggested that when he said he didn’t understand why they would complain. He just said there were a lot of older people that stay there & complain about anything & everything. But to me he shouldn’t have suggested us going to the pool! For goodness sakes it was 11:30 am!so that situation rubbed us the wrong way to throw your own trash away in designated trash bins that were not in walking distance! We also thought they would come and clean our villa daily but they do not, they clean it after you leave unlike other resorts & hotels.

Traveler's tip on shopping

If you plan to cook in your villa make sure you bring your grocery’s because the market they have there is basically a place to buy condiments, coffee etc.and the nearest grocery store is miles & miles away

Nice Resort

If you have heavy luggage be prepard to carry them down or up lots of steps (no elevator). The parking was terrible, not enough spots for all the rooms. My room was on the bottom and outside of my room it smelled like sewage and the smell filtered into my room when the door was opened. Also, at the gift shop the ladies were not frendly.

Very Family Friendly

The resort is a great place for family with kids. My kids loved the pool with the pool slides and all the activities they had there for them. They placed fuse ball, pool, ping pong and air hockey. There were other activities they wanted to try but we didn’t have the time. We loved being able to take walks around the place also.

PEFECTION!

We booked this resort at the last minute for our trip to San DIego. We loved it! Well worth the price to upgrade to the Deluxe 1 bedroom- had a great large balcony, and a full kitchen! Furnishings were all updated and great, just what we wanted in a resort. The pool was heated at night and by the pool is a LARGE fire pit. Tip: bring marshmellows and sticks, so you can roast them by the fire. Also, we had our 4 year old with us- so she was too small to go on the waterslides, but still had a great time swimming! We traveled down to San Diego (Wild Animal Park; Sea World; Harbor area) and the resort wasn’t too far at all. Great location!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Make time to go to the Wild Animal Park-it was AMAZING! We went on a Monday, and there was very little crowds. Be sure to buy the souvenire soda cup when you get it- you get free refills on the day you buy it.. saved $ for sure. Can do the same thing at Sea World. At Sea World- spend the extra money on the Dine W/ Shamu experience. Awesome!!

Great Place for Families

After taking our two young grandchildren to LegoLand for two days, we extended our stay an additional night so we could hang out at the resort. The room was just the right size and it was great to have a kitchen. The kids loved the pool and the rec area. The food at the restaurant was great and the kids eat free. If we’re in the area, we’ll definately stay there again.

Great hotel for kids near Legoland

Nice condo with large rooms and full kitchen with washer/dryer. Beautiful grounds smelling of rosemary shrubs. King bedroom was spacious, but the kids’ sofa-bed was very uncomfortable. We used 2 pools with water slides. Good selection of restaurants on property. Will definitely stay again.

Close to Legoland, San Diego Zoo, and Wild Animal Park. With 2 family pools with waterslides it’s a destination in itself.

Great place for up to junior high kids

My family had a blast. Awesome for parents with infant to junior high kids. Nice pools with water slides and water parks. I don’t recommend taking high schoolers, unless they are into swimming, golfing, or just relaxing. Of course, there are other points of interest near by. But I think it’s a waste of money to use this place as a base-camp type lodging. Recommend it for people who want to go somewhere, settle in and enjoy.

For S. Californians - There are no "super markets" near by. You can find one about 6 to 7 miles away if you have a GPS. (There is a convenience store on site, but if you think you’ll need stuff from the super market, shop and take.

Fun Family Resort

The resort is in a hilly area, very pretty. Our room was a 1 bedroom with seperate living room pull out couch and kitchen. Slept two parents and two children comfortably. Clean, comfy bed, updated bathroom, great big shower. Fridge, stove, micro, cooking pans, plates, utensils, etc. View of golfcourse. There are 3 or 4 pools(pool felt heated) with slides, tennis, golf. Some guests were grilling outside. At night after waterslides close at 7pm. hang out and play ping pong, pool, foozball with your kids in the arcade. Very nice resort.

Pretty Great

I wish I could say that we had time to really utilize this hotel. But, we were busy cramming in Sea World and Legoland. The room was great. Had plenty of room. My only concern is that when we went to go to the bathroom, there was "fresh" urine on the seat of the toilet. Kind of a turn off. But we are clean freaks and just used our trusty old chlorox wipes and took care of it ourselves. The grounds are beautiful and there is so much for young kids to do. It rained the whole time we were there, but we would have loved to play at the pool or the splash areas. I would love to stay here again. I got a great deal though and would be surprised if they offered it again! :( It is pretty far from most of the attractions and restaurants. But it is worth it!

3 days at the Welk

Our stay at the Welk was enjoyable. The location of the Welk is a little out of the way if you are doing activities in the San Diego area, so you will need to plan you trip accordingly. There is a great little grocery store on site. The golfing prices can’t be beat. The restaurant was okay. We stayed in a two bedroom villa which was nice for our family. Most other places we stayed during our trip to SD were in hotel rooms which get crowded with Mom, Dad and kids! We stayed in the ’Cabaret’ units which were extremely dated with pink & green tile + carpeted bathrooms (yuk). However, everything worked fine. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would go back again. We spent most of our time seeing the sites and didn’t get a chance to use the water park. The game room area was very nice with loads to do for the family.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Legoland is geared for younger kids (6 or so). There are some nice outlet stores in Carlsbad. Wild Animal Park was great! The Welk Par 3 course was lots of fun for so-so golfers like myself. Plan on 3 hours to get to LAX.

crowded and dirty

The pools were overcrowded and there was no where to park. The overflow lot was even full. Security did a poor job of checking cars at the gate. The dishes were dirty and the room was unkept(poor housekeeping). Would not stay here again!!!

Won’t go back

Doing a trial run for our summer vacation stay, we opted for Welks, appears to be kid friendly. Room was ok, but we were placed on the bottom floor which was some sort of basement like room. The colder environment caused my 1 year old to get sick and become very fussy. After 1 night we opted to leave and upon checkout even though staff confirmed we were leaving early, they made no inquiry as to why. I was a bit miffed, since they made it clear to me that it was only important that they got money for the night we were not staying and not the guests. As for being kid friendly, they have pools, waterslide and a playground, but little else in the surrounding area. No poolside service and the only restaurant is only average.

Great for families!

The hotel was beautiful and the amenities were awesome. Our room was spacious and allowed us to feel like we were in a home away from home. The only thing that I would have changed on our trip would have been to skip the tour! I allowed myself to get suckered into signing up for a time share. Thankfully, I was able to get out of the contract, unfortunately I am still waiting for my refund, almost three weeks later.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The Comedy/Magic show was worth seeing. My kids are still talking about the magician’s tricks!

Great Place to stay

We usually don’t submit reviews on hotels or resorts, but this is a great place to stay. We have 3 kids and big units allow everyone to have their space. Beautiful landscaping and fabulous weather of course. We should have stayed longer. We spent most days at theme parks in the area, and it is about 35 minutes from San Diego attractions and about 1 hour from LA attractions, so a good compromise.

Traveler's tip on dining

Another bonus is Stone Brewery in Escondido, very close by - excellent food, fabulous restaurant decor and extraordinary outdoor garden. This is a winner.

Great Getaway

This was a spur of the moment booking, and the staff couldn’t have been more accomodating. The room was well equipped, and what was not there, was delivered quickly. Very nice stay and very nice grounds

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Must go to the San Diego Wild Animal Park... Just a short drive from the resort

Worst customer service we’ve every experienced.

My family of 4 spent 5 nights The condo style, on site amenities and the proximity to attractions steered my choice. Check-in went smoothly. The assumption that non-owners will want to go through the time share presentation was annoying. We had an evening swim, returned to our villa, there was no hot water. We waited a half an hour and still no luck. The morning was the same. We called to complain and had no success getting hot water. Everyone we spoke to assured us that the "engineer" had investigated and there was nothing wrong with the heater. The resort was full, we were on the end unit, did we wait?, were there more than 8 guests? The excuses were eventually insulting and infuriating. We could not shower or do dishes and what at first a nice vacation turned into the worst. When my husband suggested that we be compensated in some way for our trouble... perhaps some of the Legoland tickets they gave to the fools who sat through the 90 minute sales pitch could be sent our way to make nice? Their answer, "I have to ask the supervisor." Could we move to a unit with hot water until the mystery was solved? No sorry they were full and the head engineer had verified that we had an operational hot water heater. It was our neighbor’s fault apparently... because they were further up the pipe and snagging all the water before we had a chance. I got up early-Hot water at last. We will never return to this very nice family resort because of the way were treated.

excellent 2 br villa

We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa at the Welk resort, and enjoyed it thoroughly. It was very spacious: full kitchen, 2 large luxurious bathrooms, big living room, plus 2 separate bedrooms. The resort had multiple swimming pools and game rooms, with plenty to do if ou want to just lounge around there. Great family resort.

Everything I expected, and more.

Traveler's tip

This place is a gorgeous place. It is definetely a get away from everything place. It is not near ANY hustle and bustle. So if you are looking for serenity, THIS IS IT. There is a pool with a water slide (very busy.) The other pools were very quiet.
