Amazing views
the hotel was amazing. the staff couldnt have been more helpful. the only issues were our room was dusty and we upgraded to a pool view room (overlooking the tranquility pool,,,fantastic views!!) because the garden view actually overlooked the parking lot. we took the sunset cruise which was well worth the money--had the added benefit of a full moon rising! Very relaxing. We went off site to a beach and to restaurants. Food at Hawks Cay left a lot to be desired - if you dont like latin food, its strictly cheeseburgers. Would also have liked nightly entertainment. Would and will go back!!

Wonderful place!
The Hawks Cay resort was the bet thing about the Florida Keys. We stayed in a standard room, but it was still top-of-the-line! I wonder what the more upscale rooms are like. The bathroom was to die for and the bed linens were extremely luxurious. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. There are 5 pools to chose from and two areas to eat. Though the drinks were quite expensive and breakfast buffet was very good. We did not travel with children, but I noticed there were plenty of activities for the kids to get involved with, plus they had their own pool with a slide, etc. Too bad the resort is so far away; I would stay there again. A+++

Great place to relax
We had a wonderful villa. Staff was extremely helpful. We had some problems when our TV went out, but maintenance was a great help in getting it replaced. Water sports were easily accessed and fun. SNUBA, snorkeling, and jet ski tour were a blast. Great location between Key West and Key Largo for day trips. Overall, a wonderful family vacation!
Fly to Miami, rent a car, drive south-southwest for 2 hours.

Not overly impressed
This property can be deceiving. Overall staff service was excellent except for housekeeping. One day wed have towels, the next we wouldnt, so every day was a guess. They never vacuumed the room. Instead of giving us clean drinking glasses, they wiped the glasses out with a towel. Unless you book a villa, there is no coffee maker, no microwave, only a TV and refrigerator in the room. The rooms were quiet however. But then we were there off season. The hotels swimming pools were no deeper than 5 feet. They did have an adult pool and a kids pool. The hotel restaurant was quite spendy, so we ate off property. The hotel told us we would have an ocean view room, but we got a view of the parking lot and they were unwilling to make good on what we were told. If you want a relaxed, laid back place in the middle of nowhere, stay here, otherwise go closer to Key West. Thats where you have to go to do most things tourists would do.
If you want nightlife or daily family fun, go to Key West. Not much to do locally. But as far as eating establishments, go to The Stuffed Pig in Marathon for breakfast. Great food for a reasonable price. At mile marker 25.5, go to the Wharf Bar and Grill for lunch or dinner. Also great food. And in Key West, go to the Hogs Breath Saloon. Great atmosphere, great food, live music during the day, etc. And for sports bars, go to Hog Heaven in Islamorada. Great people, great food.

Much potential!
Hawks Cay is a lovely resort with many ammenitites...if they happen to be available during your stay. Unfortuntately our 5 day stay in mid-October coincided with many projects we didnt know about ahead of time! Hallway was being painted (so we dealt with fumes), one dinning option was closed for renovations and another dinning option closed early which created long wait times and poor service at the one available on-site dinning option. Fortunately, there are many great places within a short drive. While a daily resort fee is customary, it really didnt get us much and the housekeeping was virtually non-existent! The Bellhops however were WONDERFUL and gave us great local information (they were a tremendous help when we had rental car trouble)!
Take time to explore the trails on Big Pine Key - the Key Deer and other wildlife are amazing! After a morning of hiking the trails, head to the No Name Pub (half the fun is finding it) for some great pizza!

Relaxing At Its Finest
This hotel was very nice. Several pools as well as jacuzzis. As well as a Spa. There is also another location owned by the hotel with volleyball, mini-golf and Video Games (XBOX360, PS3, Wii) another pool, and a kids pirate ship play area. The hotel even has 6-7 dolphins for swimming/interacting with them, at a price. I really felt bad for the dolphins, crammed into such a tiny area. Overall, great Hotel if what you want to do is relax.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Theres a Winn-Dixie about 15 minutes South from the hotel. Buy breakfast items there. Hotel breakfast is overpriced. Theres also a McDonalds in the same shopping center, for cheap fast food.

Beautiful Keys Resort
Excellent resort with plenty to do for families as well as separate pool for adults that is a lot quieter. I go to fish and the resort has charter boats for inshore and offshore at the marina. I highly recommend Capt. Billy Whitfield for flats fishing. The food was excellent at Capt. Toms at the marina. The resort also had cookouts by the sea. Some of the best grilled Pompano I have ever had. I hope to get back soon. The fall in the Keys is the best time before rates go up for winter
Traveler's tip
If you fly into Miami the trip down the Keys to Duck Key takes longer than expected. Allow extra drive time.

Just what we were expecting!
I took my 8 & 10 year old kids with me for a long Labor Day weekend. It was just what I was looking forward to! The service was great. The room was beautiful. The pools were clean & pool side service great. Kids had a great time at the kids club.

Cant wait to return
My husband and I found the hotel online. We were hoping it would live up to what we saw online and when we arrived we were really pleased. The lobby and rooms are very nicely furnished, roomy, comfortable and well cared for. Each member of the staff was professional and friendly. Since we left our 2 year old at home with the grandparents we enjoyed the adult only pool in addition to the family pool. Both were beautiful. The views from the hotel are gorgeous and you cant help but feel relaxed there. Our criticisms are few. We wish the rooms included coffee pots. Coffee was a bit expensive to purchase each day. We also wish the bar would stay open a bit later and that the outdoor bar would be open at night since it is so beautiful outside. Also, while we enjoyed the music they played in the public areas very much it was sometimes playing at the adult pool and sometimes not, but always seemed to play at the family pool, probably a temporary glitch. Also, the same exact music was played starting at 10 pm each night. They need to discover random play on their music sets. Food was pretty good at the resort, but not fabulous and fairly pricey. Youll save money by eating off-site and consider bringing breakfast food into your room from a local grocery. We found good restaurants nearby also though, so overall we were pleased. Next year we hope to go back for a longer visit!
Traveler's tip on dining
We were referred to two great restaurants that we would recommend. The Island is about 10 minutes away just at the beginning of Marathon. It has a broad menu, good food and right on the water with beautiful sunsets. Another is Lazy Days, north of Duck Key in Islamorada. We ate lunch there one day at the recommendation of a woman at the hotel. I enjoyed one of the best grouper sandwiches Ive ever had (and I grew up in Florida so Ive eaten a lot of them).

Great Time
It was a gorgeous hotel. The Beds were so comfortable. The teens loved the resort. It is centrally located in the Keys so that it was convenient to travel. The food was a bit pricey but the grocery store was plus!

Beautiful and relaxing
My boyfriend and I stopped in only for a night on the way down to Key West. The hotel is beautiful and the lobby is particularly lovely. The rooms were well appointed and the bed was oh so comfy! We were kicking ourselves as we had to leave. The pool looks wonderful and people were settling in for frozen drinks as we drove away! I was a little envious!

Horrible service
The hotel and resort as a whole was beautiful. However, the service was just aweful. From the concierge to the poolside servers, it was pitiful. The whole service staff needs improvement. They seem to not care b/c your 18% gratuity is included no matter how they treat you. Waited 45 minutes at poolside restaurant just to get our drinks...ice tea nothing fancy. Waitress was extremely rude. Called resort manager & she did come down to our table with a sorry nothing more. Unfortunately no where else to stay on Duck Key so do yourself a favor & find somewhere else to go if want good service. Tip should not be included. They need to earn my money. Only decent service we recieved was from bartender and guess what she is the only service person there that works on tips not the included gratuity..go figure

Good option for families
This is a great resort for families with lots of activities and space for both older and younger kids. We hired a conch villa which was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The only thing we were dissapointed by was the distance from the villa to the reception area - a good 5/10 min walk. The pools are gorgeous and well maintatined. And we loved the salt water lagoon and dolphin exhibit. Unfortunately the restaurants are overpriced and service slow - but you can cater at home in the well laid out kitchens. The spa was also very expensive - but luxurious.

Back again this summer
Visited Hawks Cay last July, and couldnt wait to go back! The place is really great. Its so relaxing. This year we ate Friday night at the Fish Fry and Saturday night at the BBQ. I hope we make an annual trip to Hawks Cay. We pais $10 less per night this year, so I felt like we got a bargain!

Quality Time with Family
GREAT !! very happy overall. My children loved it they couldnt wait to go back again. we have gone twice in the past month THANKS to you all ! terrific rates. The children had activities to do all day. We had a great time all together . The childrens area is THE BEST ! . Everything is in walking distance especially if you have kids. You are able to use their own transportation they pick you up and drop you all over the resot.I would, we have recommended this resort to everyone I have spoken to. My kids have already asked us when are we going to HAWKS CAY? I too have asked my husband when are we going to Hawks Cay..........? If you are wondering to take the kids take them. You are going to be pleased.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
follow the activity schedule for the kids . they also, have a day camp kids are busy the entire day.all week including the weekends. fun for the adults too if you want to interact with your kids

This is the place to stay in the Keys!
We found this to be a perfect location for a visit to the Keys. We are a family of four and had a great week! The Resort was very nice, and the staff outstanding... friendly, accomodating you name it, no complaints here. All kinds of water-sports are available right there. My teenagers loved it. We found some really good Seafood resturaunts near by, plus its not that far to Key West for a day trip. The next time we visit the Keys, well be hard pressed to stay anywhere else.
The staff at Dive Duck Key was great. If youre interested in snorkeling or scuba check them out. Great Seafood at Sparkys and Castaways in Marathon.

Ok
The hotel was clean and nice. The dolphin area was very nice, the children had a blast. The food on the other hand was horrible!! Go to another Island to eat for sure!! I will never go back, to many other places in the keys that is "THE KEYS" without making you feel like it is a tourist trap, and I lived in the keys for 13 years, trust me!
Traveler's tip on dining
Pierres in Islamorada is the place to eat and enjoy a beautiful keys sunset! Great food, music, and old beauty.

Relaxing, great bed, but if your looking for night life this is NOT the place,
We had a very good time, great room with a wounderful bed. If your looking for night life this is not the place for you. Every thing closses up very early. My girl friend and I thought we entered the twilight zone after spending 5 days in Kew West, quite a culture shock, but this place is for relaxing so once you get in the mode, it was very nice. The drinks at the bars are expensive and not much booze, but like I said this place is not about partying. We ate the local restraunts, the food at the hotel was OK, but to institutional for us. Much better fare at the local joints. good place for families and couples who want to lounge.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
bring a small soft cooler with you for pool side. Eat at the local eateries, much more colorful and better food.
