Delightful experience

Hacenda San Jose is in a secluded area about an hour east of Merida and about 7km east of Tixkokob. It is beautifully laid out in the buildings of a former henequen hacienda to which have been added four Mayan "Villas." We stayed n one of the latter which was elegant. Several acres of enclosed gardens surround the main buildings. A large swimming pool has been installed in the hacienda’s irrigation tank. Meals are served in an open arcade or in tables set up outdoors adjacent to it. The food is excellent. We had a delightful experience. The only drawback one should note is that it is located in a remote spot, a good drive from the city of Merida and about an hour’s drive from the chief archaeological sites (Chichen Itza, Dzibilchaltun or Mayapan). Thus it is a place to stay for several nights while absorbing the region and not a single-night stopover.

Luxury hotel with in-room hammock...

This is a really beautiful place. The room we had (no. 2 I think) was great - big comfy bed, lovely big bathroom and toiletries, and a hammock to sleep in if you wish. Beautiful flowers on the bed and in the bathroom. The hacienda is set in fabulous, lush green, quiet surroundings. The pool is divine after a hot day of exploring the nearby ruins - and there’s even a hammock in the shady end of the pool to really help you relax... Staff are very friendly. Food is average (a lot of beans...), the winelist limited, but when you dine by candlelight on the lawn under the stars, who cares... This is a really lovely place. Highly recommended.
