Cookies

Mmm... Delicious cookies. The hotel was great. Good location, comfortable rooms, quality service. And every time you walked past the front desk you could get a free warm, tasty chocolate chip cookie.

Downtown Pittsburgh

We had a couple issues with housekeeping. These were dealt with by customer service, and we were appropriately compensated. The location in Downtown Pittsburgh was fabulous for our plans.

Traveler's tip on dining

Market Square was under renovation, so the range of dining options was limited. We would recommend Station Square as offering a more varied range of dining choices.

Comfortable option in downtown Pittsburgh

The Doubletree has no particular character (especially compared to the historic William Penn just 1 block away), but it’s a comfortable and very convenient choice in downtown Pittsburgh. Walk easily to sports venues (PNC Park, Heinz Field, Mellon Arena), the cultural district, the Strip District, Station Square. The hotel is right across the street from Steel Plaza "T" (subway) stop, with service to downtown and South Hills. Hotel is near the Greyhound and Amtrak stations, and a quick cheap ride on the 28X "Airport Flyer" to the airport.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Consider leaving the car behind; walking and public transit are fine alternatives here. Tip: ask for an even-numbered room (mine was 1512), they have better views.

Wonderful Experience

I really loved the view from the hotel! It made the whole trip worth while. The room was spacious, the bathroom was clean and well kept and I absolutely loved the bed. I think I could have slept for 24 hours if we weren’t going to see a football game. The price was very reasonable compared to how great it was. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Nice Place

Gobbs of room, clean, helpful staff and reasonably priced. We chosethe Doubletree because of its proximity to Mellon arena but were quite impressed with how nice our stay was.

Traveler's tip

If taking the shuttle back to the hotel leave plenty of time or schedule a cab if time is of the essence.

Pleaantly surprised

Pleasantly surprised by room quality, size and comfort. Only complaint was loud noise from construction or housekeeping at 2 am.

Very impressed and very convenient

The Doubletree had convenient access to downtown Pittsburgh. It is within walking distance to the Pirates Stadium. It also had a shuttle that would take you back and forth to other locations which was very convenient. The staff was very pleasant. The room was large and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to others wishing a nice place to stay in downtown Pittsburgh.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Within walking distance to PNC Park. Shuttles take you back and forth to other locations. Park your car and leave it!

Pittsburgh’s best kept secret

The Pittsburgh Doubletree is ideally located: 3 blocks from the Convention Center. It is easily accessible by car for hosts to pick up. The hotel provides limousine service to places nearby such as the Andy Warhole Museum. The breakfast is copious and the staff most helpful!

Service Staff Didn’t Care At All.

I was coming into town for the Pittsburgh Marathon. I deliberately chose a downtown hotel that had a pool, as I always go swimming before a big race. (The cool water relaxes muscles). When I arrived, there was a sign saying the pool was closed for maintenance. This was a little annoying, since the room rate was not cheap, and the main purpose of my reservation was to use the pool. So when I asked the service staff if there was anything they could do (such as calling another hotel and letting me swim in their pool, or at least offering my a discount on my next stay), she rudely told me that the sign has been posted in the hotel lobby for weeks and there was nothing she could do to help me. She didn’t say, "get over it", but she might as well have. I understand maintenance needs to be done, but they should post that on their reservation page. The one thing I needed was a pool--and I wasn’t given that. I’m not upset by the pool being closed, I’m just upset when I try to come up with a solution I’m told to stop wasting their time. She obviously had a MySpace page to check.

Not impressed

The location of the hotel was perfect. The room was too cold and we could not turn on the heat. We ordered room service but there was no place to put the food except the beds. The room needed a table. The food was horrible.

Nice hotel, bad location

There is nothing around the hotel to do on the weekend. Everything is closed. Overall, the hotel is nice, but be prepared to eat at the hotel restaurant because you won’t find anything else open (or around).

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Check out the bus schedules. Learn how to use their public transportation system. There are no readily available cabs driving the streets and everything is far if you do not have a car.

just fine

We had a king suite which had plenty of room and beds for my 2 teenage kids and me. However for such a large and nicely appointed room, the bathroom was tiny. Hard to figure. But overall, just fine, and very well located in downtown PGH.

Suites are great for a family weekend getaway

The Doubletree had the most comfortable hotel bed I ever slept on. Suite was spacious and clean.

Traveler's tip on dining

Hotel on premises is very good, but very pricey. For breakfast, it’s much cheaper to use the 7-Eleven, also on-site , to get a hot, affordable breakfast to take back to the room.

Nice Hotel

While the room was average in size, the beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The hotel has a free shuttle that will drop off and pick you up anywhere around the city. We used it quite a bit to see different sites. It runs from early morning until late evening.

nice update

I last stayed at this hotel about four years ago, prior to Doubletree buying it. They did a very nice job on the renovation

Traveler's tip on dining

The Common Plea restaurant is just three blocks away and is an excellent, long-time Pittsburgh favorite

Perfect Location

This hotel is expensive, but well worth the price. It is located in the heart of Pittsburgh, in a nice area with walking distance access to all major sites. The big problem would be finding the tiny parking garage and the hotel is small compared to the huge surrounding buildings. Look for the huge blace UPMC building whenever you are looking for the hotel. Once you park you will not need your car for the rest of your stay!

Traveler's tip on dining

Eat somewhere else if you want to save a little money! Just walk over to the market square and eat at Pularny Brothers or dozens of other restraunts.

Good hotel, will go back

The hotel room was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The night shift front desk staff were unfriendly and very unhelpful. The morning valet attendants had smuck comments and rude. However, the morning staff at the front desk were very nice and accommodating. They handed out maps of the area and gave great directions and advice on shops, restaurants, etc. I will stay here again.

Returning Visitor

We were very satisfied with the great service, clean and quiet rooms. On our return visit to Pittsburgh, we gladly selected Doubletree as our hotel of choice.

Not bad, but not great

The size of the suite was nice. The bed was comfortable. The cons were there wasn’t a mini bar (in a suite!). The bathroom was too small. There is only one mirror in the room. A full length mirror would be nice on one of the 3 closets in the room.

This hotel was nice but we weren’t very impressed

The air conditioning was not working very well in our room and the parking was a nightmare (to be fair it is at most places in Pittsburgh but you can find free parking at some hotels). The hotel itself was nice. My brother attended PITT for a couple years so we visited Pittsburgh often and we have stayed at other hotels in Pittsburgh that were more reasonable on price and we enjoyed more.

Well run hotel

The Doubletree-Pittsburgh is a well-run hotel; clean, convenient, well-staffed. We stayed in a King suite and it was roomy and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little small, not a lot of counter space. There is a 7-11 next door for convenience purchases and the hotel grille provides free coffee to go. The parking garage is around the corner and fills up when they are busy. It’s really the only place to park so allow time to get and leave the car. We wish we had spent a little extra to use the parking valet service.

A Suite Stay in Pittsburgh!

This was the first time visiting the city of Pittsburgh and were we IMPRESSED! We traveled to Pittsburgh to catch a Monday Night Steelers Football game and planned to stay in Pittsburgh for a couple of nights. The Doubletree was the perfect choice! First of all the hotel is beautiful and close to everything. The staff at the hotel was exceptional and took very good care of us. We stayed in a one bedroom suite and it had all the comforts of home. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept in. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was very good. We took the shuttle to do some shopping and that was very convenient. It does not go over the bridge so don’t plan on taking it to Heinz Field. The concierge however gave us great advice on how to get the game quickly and cheaply. If you are a Steeler fan like us you are going to be in heaven! Last but certainly not least, the fresh baked hot chocolate chip cookies when you check in put this hotel off the charts! It is a fantastic place to stay without the huge price tag!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Great place to stay to catch a Steelers Football game. Heinz Field is only a short distance away. The shuttle will take you to the bridge and you can walk the short distance to the field or take the Public rail transportation across the bridge (this cost $1.00) and grab the Gateway Clipper ferry which brings you right to Heinz field. This only costs $5.00 round trip per person.

Top notch accomodations and service!

Staff was excellent! They went above and beyond to serve. Helped us choose a restuarant, called our taxi, provided a map to get around and had rain gear for us when it started to rain. I would go back in a minute. I highly recommend this hotel. Room service was great too!
