"noise factor"

We were placed in a basement room. As the building is older, the soundproofing between floors is virtually nonexistent. On our first night the noise from above was unbelievable, sounded like running, furniture moving, etc. Finally at 6 AM I went to the front desk to complain and was told that they would speak to the occupants above us later in the day as they didn’t want to disturb them at an early hour. Duh???? In any case, those people checked out and the next three days were much better. My suggestion is to request "non-basement" rooms. On a positive note, the hotel had great location. Literally around the corner were 4 pubs, fast food (Subway, McD’s and BK), Starbucks, ethnic restaurants, banks and most importantly a tube station with an inexpensive direct connect to Heathrow (all terminals) as well as the center of London. I’d stay here again for the convenience.

Average Hotel

The problems I had was that it is a super old hotel. The floor boards squeak where ever you walk and that keeps the people below you up and the people above you keep you awake. The staff was not at all helpful on anything. The hotel was located on a very quiet street two blocks from the underground. It was a perfect location to get to the underground and connects to Piccadilly line which is pretty much where everything you want to see in London is located.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

This hotel is cheap and convenient. My cons were not that bad and the room was reasonably sized and you did get 5 channels that were in English. We have traveled all over the world and this was an average hotel. It was clean and I never found one insect in my room.

Nice, convenient place to stay

The room was decent, but the bathroom was a little outdated and could have been cleaned better. Other accomodations were comfotable. The hotel is near the Earl’s Court tube station, which is a convenient location. It’s just a few stops from all the tourist destinations in central London, and the Picadilly line runs directly from Earl’s Court to Heathrow Airport. Getting to and from Gatwick is a little more difficult, though. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone that is travelling through Heathrow, wants a reasonable place to stay, and plans to head to central London.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you will be travelling through Heathrow airport and plan to stay at Barkston Gardens, take the Picadilly line straight from Heathrow to the Earl’s Court station. You can then walk about a block and a half to the hotel. A one way tube pass costs somewhere between 3 and 3.50 pounds.
