one of the worst values ever !!
This hotel needs to be avoided at all costs. It is in dire need of refurbishment. I suspect the springs will pop through the bed mattresses quite soon. The staff are entirely indifferent and the food is attrocious.

there is a fantastic italian restaurant called the ’amalfi’. it is in the basement of the wessex hotel on west cliff.

Okay
While the price for the area was a bargain, there is a disparity between the pictures on the site and the room that I received. I was given an interior ring room, which are smaller than the outer ring rooms, and not quite as nice. The Hotel does NOT offer currency exchange as advertised, and the cable/satellite TV is limited to 5 channels. The staff however are extremely friendly and helpful, and that is what makes this hotel someplace I would stay again.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Avoid the travelers checks route. If you need cash, make ATM withdrawals instead. All the ATMs in the area offer free cash withdrawals, and your home bank will offer you a better exchange rate - even with foreign ATM fees attached.
