Dont Stay Here
The hotel is not worth the money, even considering that its only 2 stars. Stay across the street at Tryp Apollo for only a little more. Even though we were on the 6th floor, the noise from the street below was unbearable throughout all hours of the night. We asked for a queen bed and got 2 singles, which when we asked, the clerk told us to push them together ourselves. The sheets were less than desirable, so we ended up sleeping on top of the comforter. The air conditioner was not blowing cold air. The room smelled like smoke, even though it was a smoke-free room. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel was dirty and smelled. If you are ok with staying a little farther from Las Ramblas, stay near the beach. That was a much cleaner area of the city and more pleasant, in my opinion.

Great address at good price
Stayed in late August. AC worked fine, was surprised by generous space (3 beds) for a single person. Got room at 6th floor (of 7) with a view to Sagrada Familia - aim for higher floors and northern side if you have a choice. Walking distance to Old Town and steps from metro (and funicular to Montjuic), it is a very convenient location for a business traveller with little time for leisure which is just step away.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
Get an early morning hike/funicular ride to Montjuic castle - splendid view, cooler temperatures, and you will have it for yourselves (plus a runner or two).

Worst Hotel Stay Ever
A friend and I had been vacationing in Barcelona and Nice for about 10 days and needed a hotel to stay in for one night before heading back to New York. We decided that location was important because wed have to get to the airport in the morning so we chose Auto Hagar (Auto Hagar is really close to the metro). It was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The elevator was barely big enough for the two of us to fit, the room was like a dorm room from the 1940s, the beds were completely uncomfortable and the neighborhood was less than desirable.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
My friend and I rented bicycles for a day and were able to explore much of the city. It was pretty cheap and really great to be able to see so much of Barcelona at our own pace.
