Great for the money

This was the second time we have chosen this hotel to stay at in Toronto. We were just as pleased this time as the last time. The staff is very friendly and helpful! Will likely continue to stay at this hotel when visiting Toronto.

Not this block

Our family arrived really late after a long drive from the States and saw prostitutes hanging around the block where the hotel is situated. Not recommending this for a family and the hotel is a little dated.

Pleasant sleep, decent location

Though the elevators can get packed and the trip to the pool seems labyrinthine, the rooms are spacious, the views are pleasant, and the staff is extremely helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

only one elevator was working for the weekend. The elevators are small to begin with then had to wait because of only one working

Would stay there again

The hotel is located in the financial district. But the convenience of the hotel to the local transportation makes it very easy to get to one area of the city to take in the sites and quisine.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If your stay is longer than two days, invest in a transpass to be able to have unlimited use of the street cars and subway system.

Stay somewhere else

I stayed at this Ramada with my wife and three kids, which proved to be not such a good idea. The room was tiny compared to the online pics, not as nice either- nor was the rest of the hotel. The room was clean, but the bathroom tiny and a little crusty. The pool/hot tub was gross, and was actually in an adjoining condo building. Parking was $22 a night, which I wasn’t expecting. The staff were nice, which was about the only plus. The elevators were also smaller than average, making it very difficult to get a cart up and down with our luggage, as well as our stroller for our two little ones. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel- for the price you could do better.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The hotel is a short walk to Yonge street, the main nightlife, shopping, dining street in the city. There is lots to do and see there. The hotel is also on the border of a gay neighborhood, with a lot of bars/clubs/restaurants, etc. for those who are interested. It’s also supposedly a big transvestite area, and we saw a few.

Good hotel

The hotel was located close to the city center (about at 15 minute walk) and was also on the bus route for the double decker bus tour (one pass allowed you to ride for days). The hotel restaurant was great and food was reasonably priced. There are also several great dining options within walking distance -- try the ones recommended by the hotel staff (they didn’t steer us wrong). The hotel staff was fantastic. Hotel pool is shallow (about 3 feet if I remember correctly). Two downsides--paying $22/day to park at the hotel and the location of the tv in our room. Our room had two beds and the tv was on the wall parallel to the beds so those on the bed closest to the window had a difficult time watching tv if someone was in the bed closest to the tv.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The Royal Ontario Musuem offered half price admissions Friday after 4:30. The line to get in seems long but moves pretty fast. Ride the Hippos--its worth the money! CN Tower -- go to the second level observation deck, the lower level has wires over the windows while the second and higher observation outlook windows do not.

Nice Lobby, lousy rooms

Just the hotel lobby looks are great and once step inside the room its very old, small and smelly. However, room service and requests were very prompt and got clean towels everyday of the stay. Parking per day $22 CDN.

Very Impressed

Past trips to Toronto I have stayed at nearby locations and was extremely pleased with my choice to stay at the Ramada this time. It was a few blocks further then some other places I looked at but the extra 5 or 10 minute walk was worth it. I called ahead and was able to check in early which was convenient to drop off the car and bags. When we arrived at the hotel the front desk staff informed us that our room had been upgraded. Our room was much nicer than the standard hotel floral comforters that feel like plastic. The bathroom was old fashion but with the amount of time we spent in the hotel it was a minor detail. My next trip to Toronto I will defiantly be staying there again.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The 2 days we spent in Toronto we only payed for a cab one time while it rained for a bit. If you enjoy walking everything can be reached without having to drive or use any public transportation.

Good hotel for price

The hotel was old, but they did a decent job of keeping it updated and clean. The bed was super comfy and the room had plenty of amenities. Fridge, desk, LOTS of storage space! There was a decent sitting room where we could set up our son’s playpen. The hotel was within walking distance of lots or things, and was near the subway. The only problem was if you use a wheelchair or stroller, there is no way to get to the elevators that we could find. There were stairs in the lobby that led to the elevators, so beware of this.

Would recommend

Cost effective hotel in a good location of the city. Near Yonge Street, within walking distance of the Panasonic Theatre and Eaton Centre. The room was older but clean. Beds were comfortable. During the last night of our 3-night stay the room across from us played VERY loud music at 2am. I called the front desk and they came up right away asking the woman to turn down the music. Elevators are small, staff was friendly.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

See "We Will Rock You" at the Panasonic Theatre - great show! Tickets are $20 on Tuesdays.

Really nice hotel

We selected the Ramada Plaza Hotel due to it’s location and price. It was a really nice surprise that it was everything we expected for the price we paid. The most important thing for us was that the room and hotel were clean and the staff were very nice every time we asked something. The room was very cozy. The location is excellent since you have College Station 2 blocks away and even Eaton Centre and Dundas Square are a walking distance away (Approximately 1 km). I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone that wants to spend some days getting to know downtown Toronto!!!

Toronto so-so hotel

Small elevators, tiny, outdated bathrooms and the front desk staff, though helpful, did not project any friendliness.

it was great but there were a couple little things....

The hotel is lovely and well maintained. A couple of little things made it a less-than-great stay, though the hotel remedied most quickly. My room was missing a remote (weird!), and the hotel sent someone right up. Cool. In the middle of the night my "Do Not Disturb" sign disappeared from my door and was never replaced. While I had lots of towels, there was only 1 washcloth. There was no plug near the coffeemaker. I couldn’t get the thermostat to work (and it was cold up there in February!)--turns out the heater was unplugged. Instructions for getting in and out of the underground parking garage were very vague. Everyone who pulled up to the gate did what I did--sat there for ages and read a couple of useless signs before they figured out a way to get in. And parking is expensive. And, I know this is probably petty, but there was too much furniture in the room: two queen beds, a couch, a chair, a big coffee table, and a big desk.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

It’s just a few blocks from Younge Street so it’s easy to get to restaurants and shopping. The hotel is on Jarvis so you have easy north-south access to the city and an easy entry onto the Gardner expressway.

Nice hotel, far from fun in Toronto

I was looking for an affordable one-night stay in TO for a business trip and had hoped to be near some interesting shopping, eating, etc. That turned out to be a 20-minute cab/ 30-minute subway ride away, but that was my own fault for poorly planning. Still, I don’t know that I’d walk around alone around the hotel at night. It WAS very clean, very comfortable, and the right price. If I needed a place to stay again, I’d probably try to stay a bit farther northeast in the city, but I wouldn’t overlook this hotel.

Great room for a great price

With so many choices of hotel’s in Toronto it was hard to choose one. But we are glad that we chose this one. The room was very clean and a great size room. It had a pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. Service was perfect. Parking was very easy and affordable for the city. It was not that far from the action of younge street either. Just a five min walk and you right in the think of things. It is a bit of a walk to the Hockey hall of fame but still not that bad if weather is ok. If ever back in Toronto for a night or more would book here in a heartbeat.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try a place called raintree. It is a maket style resturant and is great. Fresh food and will not empty your pocket book. They make the food by hand right there in front of you.

Not 3 stars..barely 2

From the start I was hit up for additional money from this place. I took the room upgrade. The hotel is an older building that has had a facelift but could use some more work. The restaurant was closed until further notice which was a surprise since when I contacted the Ramada they talked about the great breakfast they served. I found this place to be close enough to many of the things I wanted to do and enjoyed the public transportation even in the winter.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

You are just a couple of blocks from the College subway stop and the Jarvis/Carlton streetcar stop. Find a map of the system (go online ) and travel around using the subway and the streetcars.

Not impressed.

The lobby was the best part of the hotel. The elevators were so small only 2 people and 2 suitcases could fit. We had people trying to get into our room in the middle of the night, running through the halls, and people cooking in other rooms that made the entire floor reek. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was huge. Only one waitress to serve the entire restaurant and bar. Overpriced for what they offered.

There are better places to stay in Toronto.

Every fall I meet a gal pal in Toronto for shopping, eating, shopping, fun, etc. This is the first time we stayed at this hotel. The rooms & halls are looking pretty tired. Our bathroom sink had stains and the tiles could do with some elbow-grease. Frankly, I base the hotel on the bathroom - I was glad I brought flip-flops. Beds were comfty and the couch & easy chair were a plus. The room was a fair size - we had 2 Q-sized beds. I asked for a fridge & it was delivered quickly. Its near Ryerson so there are lots of students around. Plus the 24-hour student grocery store was handy.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you like Indian/South Asian go to The Saffron Tree. Its an easy walk but I can’t remember the street. Google it or ask the front desk. Also, the Winners at the corner of College & Yonge is the mother-ship of shopping. Best Winners in Canada - but don’t think it will be there tomorrow. If you see it, like it then buy it right away. It has a designer section and great purses.
