El Rodeo

The hotel itself was pretty nice, however, it is on a very busy road with no sidewalks. If you wanted to go anywhere you had to get a cab or have a car, you couldn’t really walk. It is about 10 minutes to the airport. The hotel room was very quiet though as the inn sits back from the road. The steak house on site looked intimidating and empty of customers, but we were very glad we tried it. It was probably the best meal we had while in Costa Rica and not very expensive.

wonderful!

The hotel was great, close to the airport, BUT very difficult to find, too many one way streets. The other minor issue was the pool. It was so cold, we couldn’t get wet past our feet.

Decent airport area hotel

We chose this hotel because it was convenient to the airport. The hotel was pleasant enough, but our shower didn’t work, so we had to use a shower in another room in another wing of the hotel. We just wanted a quick, cheap meal when we arrived at 6:00, but when I went to the "cafeteria" as they called it, the man there said he couldn’t make a hot dog-it was clear he had shut down the grill and couldn’t be bothered, but the hotel claimed it was a misunderstanding. Still, the room was clean and comfortable and they had a pool table, foosball table, a computer with internet access, a pool, and a tennis court that entertained my 12 and 14 year old boys. I wouldn’t go there as an actual destination, but if you need a place near the airport this place is good enough.

Amazing ambience at the Rodeo

This place is amazing. We were so excited when we pulled up at how beautiful the hotel is...But were far more impressed by the service. When we got there at 8:30pm on a Sunday night, the restaurant was already closed. The hotel manager walked with us down the street to find a restaurant open at that hour on a Sunday night. When we returned, we began to eat our to-go dinners out of styrofoam on the beautiful patio by the pool. The manager came back from the kitchen with glasses of wine for us, plates, silverware, and turned on the music. The atmosphere was perfect...A wonderful and romantic way to spend the last night in Costa Rica/

Nice Place to Stay Near the Airport

We wanted a nice. safe place but at a good price as we were getting in late and would only stay in the San Jose area for the night. THis hotel fit the bill perfectly. Breakfast was included with the room price and we opted for the Tico special. It was delicious. Would easily stay here again. The Expedia Price was $30 less than direct booking with the hotel.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

We rented a car from Avis in Belen. They picked us up for free. We drove all over Costa Rica for 11 days. Highly recommend getting the GPS with the car rental. Avis was excellent.

El Rodeo Country Inn

The hotel is one of the best that I have stayed in rooms are comparable to an business class hotel room at half the cost. The restaurant and breakfast cafe were good. I would not recommend ordering steak anywhere in Costa Rica.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Plan travel away from the hotel well. Tour Bus can be arranged from the hotel and make sure that they pick up and return to the hotel. If you have several locations you need to get to in a day, rent a car (an SUV if going into rugged terrain)

Nice relaxing hotel

The hotel is located minutes away from the airport and in the suburbs of San Jose. It very nice and quiet and the surrounding are very nice. The free breakfast was a nice touch. It also has a steakhouse that many business people attend. I would stay in the hotel without any reservations,

Large rooms

Although the location of this hotel is halfway between the airport and San Jose, there is nothing close by, and the only way to get around is a taxi or rental car. Traffic is awful during morning and evening rush hours. However, the hotel is beautiful, with very large rooms & bathroom. It’s set far enough back in from the highway that it is very quiet. The beds were great, and the room spotless. Very friendly staff. If you don’t have to be anywhere special, it’s a great place to relax.
