Perfection!

While in Berkeley for the Cal/OSU game, we couldn’t have found a better place to stay. Staff at the hotel were beyond helpful, the room clean and well appointed, and the location by the university was terrific. Without the deal we got through Expedia, we might not have been able to afford to stay here, and are so glad this worked out!

Just OK !

Small room, shower water temp impossible to control, noisy air condition unit outside room. Not worth the money.

Beautiful, historic hotel

Claremont is a beautifully maintained historic hotel. Most rooms have been updated, but you have to remember that when this hotel was built, modern architectural ideas such as private balconies and large, spacious guest rooms were not the norm. The rooms are small and the "view rooms" are a stretch -- literally: you have to STRETCH to see the view. That said, though, it’s a beautiful hotel in a beautiful part of Berkeley and we continue to enjoy it year after year.

Lovely Stay

The perfect spot for rest, relaxation and a little work.

Traveler's tip on dining

The main resaurant was closed for renovation so the back-up one was very crowded. They were very good at fixing our meals to take out though.

Old Luxury Hotel/Resort

This classic hotel/resort met our expectations and then some. Fitness center with pools, classes, and weight rooms (also tennis courts but we didn’t use them)was modern, clean, and well staffed and equipped. Staff were consistently helpful (concierge got out a whole box of forgotten and unclaimed cell-phone chargers when I asked for the location of a phone store to buy one; gift shop lady wrapped a foot of Scotch tape around a pen for me to use for gift wrapping presents; front desk did some quick juggling to find us a room with two double beds instead of the single King-sized bed room accidentally assigned.) Felt like we landed in a 1920’s novel.

Traveler's tip on dining

Enjoy breakfast in the highly-rated restaurant, Jordan’s, and enjoy the wonderful view and excellent service for a fraction of the cost at lunch and dinner.

Nice view but not impressed

Nice view from room window of Berkeley and San Francisco. We were not given the room we had reserved and paid extra for. Upon inquiry we were told that the hotel was full and we could not be accommodated even though we had made the reservation weeks in advance. We were not refunded for the room reserved. The room we were given, as mentioned above, had a great view from the window. It was clean but also noisy. Once last thing - the dining room staff and menu was disappointing. So sad, but there you go. That was the Claremont experience for us.

Traveler's tip on dining

Go down to College Avenue to eat. Some nice restaurants of diffferent varieties there.

Disappointed

Beautiful facility but we were disappointed with the service. Our room had no toiletries when we checked in, the attendant who delivered the crib had body odor and the sniffles, and the bell desk and front desk did not answer the phone the morning we checked out. On a positive note, the valet parking attendants were friendly and attentive.

Disappointed!

We were quite disappointed with the service in all area’s! Also, The charges to use a pool on top of the room rate is rediculous! We were charged extra to bring our grand children to the pool as well.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The pool is dominated by club members, and is expensive for hotel guests to use.

Not what I espected.

Staff was very good, but hotel just seemed like a little worn. Room overlooked the air conditioning unit. Angry person left a very unhappy note on the desk of our room, which was there when we checked into our room. Made us uncomfortable about safety.

Read the fine Print

Read the fine print, not all the hotel servces are included in the daily resort fee. The spa is not. There is an additional daily fee for parking of 24. my room was dated and smelled like my grandmothers powder. All the bars close at 10:30. There was not a spot available at the pool since it is also a local club. A big disapointment. Will never stay there again. Park out side and walk in and check out the photo’s that is the best part. Need a re hab and new manager.

Dear Sir, I am sorry to read of your dissatisfaction with The Claremont. It seems were were not up to our usually high standards when you stayed with us. We do list our parking and resort fee prices on the site and we encourage all guests to be aware of them before booking at our hotel. Our staff does work hard to please our guests and we hope you will return on your next trip to Berkeley.

Second stay at the Claremont

Love the Claremont. I think a great price for what you get and the location is great. The amenities like access to the pool and health spa, great restaurant, and friendly service make the Claremont my favorite place to stay in the Bay area,

Traveler's tip on shopping

Not a bad walk to all the shops on College and Telegraph, and it if it is not in walking distance, then Berkeley is a very easy place to drive around in.

Truly Elegant Place - like stepping back in time

Truly wonderful place. Antiques and memorabelia fill the hotel. Room was spacious, beds comfortable, bathroom was spotless. Employees were very friendly and helpful. The gym and exercise facility were top notch with numerous classes available which were included in the resort fee. Exquisite grounds and great view of the bay when it was clear.

Good hotel but a little pricey

Its a good hotel similar to the Del except no beach, They should have a shuttle to take guests around, Nothing nearby within easy walking didtance. The resort fee of 25.00 is high unless you use the gym facilities a lot

terrific place to stay

Beautiful place. Lots of history. On the weekend we checked in, there was a big party for someone turning 60, but it didn’t affect our stay at all. We were upgraded to a 4th floor suite with no additional charge, we didn’t ask for it.

Traveler's tip on dining

Visitors to Berkeley must check out Cheeseboard Pizza, on the north end of Shattuck. They serve gourmet pizzas, a different kind every day. On the thin crust side, fresh and simple ingredients. We had a simple cheese and arugula pie, the best pizza I’ve ever had. I wish we had something like this in L.A. People like Zachary’s Pizza on Solano Ave. in Albany. It’s OK, if you like the thick crust style with lotsa tomato sauce, but for my taste, Cheeseboard takes the cake.

First class hotel

The service and attention to detail was first class. Though the resort facilities are shared due to the fact the health club is shared with Berkely area residents.

Old fashioned resort in Berkeley

The Claremont is a wonderful, eccentric throwback to Victorian resort hotels but its facilities are modern and excellent. It’s a great place to stay and the location, a pleasant walk from the campus, can’t be improved upon.

Love it

I took my daughter for her birthday getaway. We never left the hotel. The staff was super gracious and helpful. We loved the swimming pools, and the ladies steam room, sauna, etc. The dining on the deck was very reasonable with a spectacular view. We were allowed an early check-in and a late check-out.
